It is especially well suited to anyone looking for a Hongdae date spot or a Hapjeong/Sangsu bar with a Japanese izakaya atmosphere! You can feel that classic izakaya mood from outside, while the interior is styled to make you want to keep eating and drinking late into the night. Such a charming space 👍 ### Location and accessibility Soottori is conveniently located between Hapjeong Station, Sangsu Station, and Hongik University Station, with plenty to see nearby as well :) There is an outdoor bar-terrace area in front of the restaurant, so on a nice day you can enjoy drinks somewhere between indoors and out! Inside, there are plenty of bar tables, couple seats, and regular tables. It really has that proper Japanese izakaya feel. I loved the great mood you get from the exterior alone. ## An interior with Japanese vibes The Japanese atmosphere starts outside, so even before entering, I felt as if I had come to a local izakaya in Japan. Inside, the lighting was not too bright, and the yellow and red tones gave it a warm yet exotic feel 🥳 Rather than being overly quiet or formal, it had an atmosphere where you could comfortably drink and chat. The bar tables are great for enjoying Soottori’s food up close, while the couple seats are lovely for spending relaxed time facing each other—especially suitable for anyone looking for a good Hapjeong bar! There is enough room for two to four people. The window seats seemed especially popular in this lovely weather. It would feel so nice to drink there with a cool night breeze. What I particularly liked was this thoughtful touch on the kiosk. We love Japanese izakaya-style food, but they use some unusual cuts that are a little different from what we have in Korea, right? Naturally, you wonder which sauce will go well with them. Seeing recommended sauce pairings for each item on the kiosk screen is the kind of thing you rarely see unless the owner is truly considerate 👍 That made me like it even more ☺️ They serve tare sauce, spicy sauce, and cabbage salad as standard. Shichimi, sansho pepper, soy sauce, and more are available at the table, so you can help yourself according to your taste. It was sincerely among the tenderest and richest yakitori I have ever eaten. The spicy sauce was insanely savory. Soottori seems to know exactly the flavors Koreans love! It has been such a long time since I had yakitori this tender. There was not a single bit of dryness. There was a varied sauce selection too: besides the basic tare sauce, there were shichimi, sansho pepper, spicy sauce, and more, so you could dip according to your taste. Even with the same fried food or yakitori, the flavor changed depending on the sauce, making it great with drinks! ## Matcha draft beer and unusual sours Soottori had a very varied drinks list as well as food. Even the beer glasses came out properly chilled, so the very first sip felt wonderfully refreshing. I recommend ordering sours in whichever flavors suit your taste—they are all guaranteed delicious 🐥 ## An extra order of chicken hanger steak I was curious, so I also ordered ✔️ chicken hanger steak. I am crazy about beef hanger steak, but I had no idea what chicken would be like. But now I know. I think it is a flavor anyone would enjoy without strong preferences 🤍 Since they sell yakitori by cut, it would be great to choose according to your taste. ## Overall Soottori was an izakaya with a Japanese-style interior, spacious seating, a satisfying Sumakase set, and varied drinks all in one place.
