## In short

Min Cook Misoyaki is a Japanese grilled fish and rice bowl restaurant a 3-minute walk from Exit 1 of Hwajeong Station in Goyang, Gyeonggi. On a family dinner visit, the open-kitchen bar seats held miso-grilled Chilean sea bass at 19,000 won, a special flounder sashimi bowl at 21,000 won, and a half portion of miso-grilled mackerel for the child at 7,500 won. Because Min Cook Misoyaki serves half portions, dinner out with a young child felt easy on both the table and the bill.

Bringing you my review of last night's family dinner at a Hwajeong Station favorite in Goyang — a Japanese-style grilled fish and rice bowl restaurant called Min Cook Misoyaki 🤗

## Where is Min Cook Misoyaki, and what are the hours?

Min Cook Misoyaki is on the 1st floor at 37 Hwasin-ro260beon-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, a 3-minute walk from Exit 1 of Hwajeong Station on Line 3. It's open Mon–Sat 11:00–21:00 with a break from 15:00–16:00, last orders at 14:30 and 20:30, and closed on Sundays.

- 📌 Address: 37 Hwasin-ro260beon-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea (1st floor)

When you think of grilled fish, salt-grilled usually comes to mind first, but Min Cook Misoyaki specializes in Japanese-style miso-grilled fish (misoyaki) and rice bowls. It's made by a certified Korean master of Japanese cuisine, which raised my expectations even more.

## Min Cook Misoyaki menu and prices

![Menu board and price list at Min Cook Misoyaki](https://img.superchart.com/images/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family-02-1ahrg-829.webp)

Ordering is simple through the QR code at the table. My family picked three dishes: the special flounder sashimi bowl (21,000 won), the miso-grilled Chilean sea bass (19,000 won), and a half-portion of miso-grilled mackerel (7,500 won).

## Finding the Min Cook Misoyaki storefront

Min Cook Misoyaki is easy to find, just a 3-5 minute walk from Hwajeong Station. We visited in the evening, and the warmly lit sign made it easy to spot even from a distance.

![Wood-toned exterior of Min Cook Misoyaki](https://img.superchart.com/images/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family-05-zrdgi-900.webp)

The overall exterior blends wood tones with warm lighting so well that it felt less like a grilled fish restaurant and more like stepping into a small Japanese eatery, haha.

## Inside Min Cook Misoyaki: cozy room and open-kitchen bar seats

The restaurant itself is small and cozy. The overall interior is warm and reminiscent of a Japanese home-style eatery. In the middle there are bar seats surrounding the open kitchen — it looks like a great spot for eating alone too.

We sat at the bar seats, where you can watch the cooking happen right in front of you. The warm lighting made the atmosphere feel relaxed too.

There's a plaque marking the chef as a certified Korean master of Japanese cuisine, and a display of various knives arranged by year, seemingly dating back to 2001. The phrase 'Min Cook doesn't compromise on ingredients' caught my eye.

## What we ordered: the side dishes and table setting

![Egg porridge and cabbage salad served as starters](https://img.superchart.com/images/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family-15-mzt5e-900.webp)

![Pre-meal table setting including miso soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family-16-2t7em-966.webp)

![A bowl of warm egg porridge](https://img.superchart.com/images/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family-17-16kp9-900.webp)

When you order, egg porridge, cabbage salad, and miso soup come out first. The egg porridge served before the meal is soft and lightly seasoned. A few warm spoonfuls felt gentle on the stomach!

![Miso-grilled Chilean sea bass served with lemon](https://img.superchart.com/images/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family-18-10ugd-900.webp)

### Miso-grilled Chilean sea bass, 19,000 won

The dish I was most curious about — miso-grilled Chilean sea bass! They thoughtfully give you a tool to squeeze the lemon juice easily too. The sea bass was grilled a golden brown on the surface, glossy and shiny.

Pressing it lightly with chopsticks, the flesh split apart softly, and the first bite brought out the sea bass's characteristic moist, fatty texture. The miso's savory saltiness came through subtly — the seasoning wasn't too salty and cut through the richness nicely, so it was delicious.

### Half portion of miso-grilled mackerel, 7,500 won: the kids' plate

My child ate the miso-grilled mackerel really well. I loved that you can order just a half-portion of grilled fish as a kids' dish. We grill mackerel at home sometimes too, but I'd never had it coated in miso seasoning, so I was curious how it would taste. The crispy-outside, tender-inside texture came through well, and there was no trace of that fishy taste mackerel can have. The savory miso seasoning paired well with the fish's flavor, so my kid enjoyed it a lot too.

### Special flounder sashimi bowl, 21,000 won

The last dish was the special flounder sashimi bowl, generous with flounder and vegetables! Flounder sashimi, radish sprouts, vegetables, and flying fish roe were piled generously on top of the rice, so it looked appetizing from the start.

![Flounder sashimi bowl mixed with spicy vinegared red pepper paste](https://img.superchart.com/images/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family/minkook-misoyaki-hwajeong-dinner-family-22-1vo2m-900.webp)

We mixed it up with some spicy vinegared red pepper paste, and my spoon kept going back for more. (A familiar flavor is a dangerous thing, haha.)

## Is Min Cook Misoyaki worth it for a family dinner?

Min Cook Misoyaki felt special because you get to try Japanese-style misoyaki, a bit different from the grilled fish we usually eat at home. The sashimi bowl was generous and delicious too. If you're looking for a good restaurant near Hwajeong Station or curious about Japanese-style grilled fish, I'd recommend Min Cook Misoyaki ^^
