## In short

Woo Woo is a solo drinking bar (혼술바) on Wausan-ro near Sangsu Station in Hongdae, Seoul, with a two-table layout that holds up to 30 people. The writer went with four friends, but partway through the night the staff reshuffled the seats completely, so each person ended up talking to someone new, and Woo Woo also runs a free chicken-snack starter, a quest that gives you an extra cocktail if you stay over 3 hours, and balance-game cards. For anyone who finds going alone intimidating, Woo Woo is the rare bar where coming with friends still doesn't leave you stuck in your own group.

Today I went to Woo Woo, a solo drinking bar (혼술바) in Sangsu, Hongdae, with some friends. It was honestly a spontaneous "wanna go?" kind of night lol, and this was actually only my second time at a solo bar. So I'll throw in a little comparison as we go — follow along.

## Woo Woo's opening hours and how to check if it's full

Woo Woo, the solo drinking bar in Sangsu, Hongdae, gets full a lot, so checking your seat in advance via Instagram DM is one way to avoid a wasted trip... so I messaged ahead too.

- Mon–Fri: 8pm – 5am
- Sat–Sun: 7pm – 5am

Solo bars all run late anyway, but it definitely gets more crowded the later it goes, haha.

## Two tables and the moment Woo Woo reshuffles the seats

Woo Woo's layout is basically these two tables, but surprisingly more people fit in than I expected?? And the gender ratio being almost even was also kind of surprising. What was genuinely great here was that there's an actual moment where they mix up the seats completely!! At the solo bar I went to before, once you sat down you basically had to keep talking at that same seat the whole time, which felt a little stifling — you had to power through even if it wasn't fun...

My friend and I were sitting at the waiting seats for a bit since we had to wait, and there were quite a few women there with great vibes... the conversation looked so fun that I was low-key itching to jump into that table, haha.

## Why four friends can't just stick together at Woo Woo

Even though we came as four friends, once they split everyone up, we genuinely each ended up talking with new people on our own. Two of my friends already got split off and were having a great time. Honestly, not letting you just stick next to your friend and clique out was one of the things I liked most about Woo Woo.

Also the house snack being chicken snack. I loved it so much I kept picking at it the whole time, haha.

## A Sangsu bar for 30 people, with the gender split shared upfront

At Woo Woo, the Sangsu solo drinking bar, you can even see the gender breakdown like this. With room for up to 30 people, it's great for getting to know people and easy to strike up conversation. I mean, sure, some people come to solo bars just to quietly have a drink alone, but a lot of people come wanting to talk to someone new, right? In that sense, I liked that the whole system is built so people naturally get mixed together.

## The 3-hour cocktail quest and the no-lose prize draw

Another thing that surprised me was that there's actually a quest system. If you hang out for over 3 hours, they give you a free extra cocktail — isn't that pretty great? Woo Woo, the Sangsu solo bar in Hongdae, is generous like that.

I wanted to try the no-lose prize draw too, and I figured even 5th prize being a shot of tequila isn't bad. There's also a feature to get recommended to others, a "send for no reason" button (they say it's not for flirting, but it could definitely be used for flirting), and even a way to report discomfort right from your phone, which I liked.

## Drink prices and how big the cocktails are at Woo Woo

I was a little worried about drink prices, but it was better value than I expected!! Looking at cocktail prices alone, it's not like they scream "super cheap!!" — but once you actually get one, the glass itself is pretty big and the portion is generous. So it was nice to order one and sip slowly while chatting.

Usually when you order a Faust the portion is on the small side, but can you see this? Haha, they poured a full round. That said, the signature drink line tastes even better, for reference.

When we ordered a signature drink at Woo Woo, the Sangsu solo bar in Hongdae, they even gave us a shaker performance. They filled it right to the brim too, haha. Super generous, and the owner was really kind.

## The waiting seats and the games on the big table

The waiting seats fit up to 3 people, so my friend and I sat there chatting with a woman we didn't know, and that was fun too, haha. She said she comes here alone sometimes. She's been to other places but said Woo Woo, the Sangsu solo bar in Hongdae, was her favorite.

We finally made it to the big table?? There's even more content here. Balance-game cards, "what if" cards, a squid-game-style card, a lie detector, and more. When the conversation dips a little, using the cards to talk is so good — I kept chatting happily with the person sitting next to me, haha.

## Nervous about drinking alone? Bring a friend to Woo Woo

Personally, I feel like Woo Woo solved a lot of the things that bugged me about other solo bars, so I'd go back. Especially if you're curious about the Sangsu solo bar scene in Hongdae but going alone genuinely feels intimidating, going with friends like we did is a totally fine option. Since they split everyone up once you're inside anyway, coming with a friend doesn't mean you'll only end up hanging out with that friend, haha.

If you're in Sangsu and want to hang out a little differently than usual, or feel like having some light conversation with new people, Woo Woo, the Sangsu solo bar, might be worth a visit.
