> A unique agujjim restaurant that adds crispy fried monkfish roe to a 50-year Jeolla-style sauce

I really love agujjim (spicy braised monkfish), and after not having it for a while, I suddenly craved it so badly that I went with my husband. The place we visited this time was special because, on top of the regular agujjim, they have a goni-twigim agujjim — a version topped generously with crispy fried monkfish roe.

On top of that, they use a 50-year-old Jeolla-do style sauce, and there's a self-serve corner where you can help yourself to more japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), green onion kimchi, and fried snacks, plus private rooms and a spacious dining hall — making it a great spot for family meals or gatherings too. I usually love loading up my spicy agujjim with bean sprouts, but this time I decided to try something a little different: the goni-twigim agujjim!

## Where is Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil, and how do you get there from Hanseongbaekje Station?

Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil Direct Branch is located at 48 Wirye-seongdae-ro, 101ho, Songpa-gu, Seoul, between Olympic Park and Bangi-dong, making it a convenient spot when looking for somewhere to eat in the area. Walking out of Exit 3 of Hanseongbaekje Station on Line 9, it's only about 100m away, so it was easy to find by subway too.

Since it's so close to Hanseongbaekje Station, it's also a good option if you're coming from Mongchontoseong Station or Olympic Park for a meal.

### Is parking free, and how much is valet?

If you're driving, there's a dedicated parking area for the restaurant. Free parking is available, and if needed, there's also a paid valet service for ₩2,000. Not having to search around the neighborhood for parking was pretty convenient when dining by car.

## Inside Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil: private rooms and the dining room

Walking inside, the space was bigger than I expected, and the gap between tables was pretty generous. Most importantly, there were private rooms, which seemed great for family meals or gatherings where you want some privacy.

We visited as just the two of us, but the space also looked well-suited to a group meal, and the facilities included baby chairs and wheelchair-accessible seating. Agujjim restaurants are often visited by larger groups eating a hearty meal together, so having a private room like this was especially nice.

## What makes Ttoksuni Agujjim different: a 50-year Jeolla-style sauce

Ttoksuni Agujjim started in the Gangseo area and has carried on a Jeolla-do style sauce for 50 years, apparently. The sauce is really important in agujjim — not just the spice level, but the balance of sweetness and savory depth too.

This place is known for a sauce that leans toward rich savoriness rather than being overly sweet, so I ordered with high expectations. It was also interesting that, unlike typical agujjim, they had a menu topped with fried monkfish roe. If you love agujjim like I do and want to try something a bit different from usual, this combination is worth ordering at least once.

That day, we ordered the goni-twigim agujjim, medium size, for ₩55,000.

## Side dishes, perilla seaweed soup and the self-serve corner

While waiting for the main dish, the basic side dishes were set out first. Cabbage salad, dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) and mul-kimchi, garlic scapes and pickled garlic, pickled chili peppers, and seasoned seaweed all came out neatly arranged.

There was also a perilla seaweed soup served in a large bowl. With perilla seeds in it, the broth was nutty and mild, and good for warming up your stomach before diving into the spicy agujjim. Having various side dishes and soup to alternate with, instead of eating only the spicy agujjim the whole time, made the meal much more comfortable.

Besides the standard side dishes, it was also nice to have access to a self-serve corner. Japchae, green onion kimchi, fried chili peppers, mul-kimchi, and other items different from what was set on the table at first were available, so you could take as much as you wanted. I grabbed a bit of japchae partway through the main dish, and it was nice to have another flavor to go alongside the spicy agujjim. After finishing, we wrapped up the meal with cool plum tea and ppeong-gwaja (puffed rice snack) from the self-serve corner.

## Fried monkfish roe agujjim, medium, 55,000 won: how it tasted for two

The goni-twigim agujjim we ordered finally arrived, and it was quite a sight from the start — a pile of golden fried monkfish roe stacked on top of the red-sauced agujjim.

![Medium-size goni-twigim agujjim piled high with fried monkfish roe](https://img.superchart.com/images/ddoksuni-agujjim-jamsil-gonitwigim/ddoksuni-agujjim-jamsil-gonitwigim-17-d6ydk-900.webp)

There was plenty of monkfish flesh and bean sprouts too, and mideodeok (sea pineapple) popped up here and there, so the portion was more than enough for the two of us.

![Monkfish flesh, bean sprouts, and sea pineapple visible in the agujjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/ddoksuni-agujjim-jamsil-gonitwigim/ddoksuni-agujjim-jamsil-gonitwigim-18-1rhlr-900.webp)

The fried monkfish roe on top was the biggest difference from a typical agujjim. I had expected a very crispy, hard texture since it was fried, but in reality, the batter wasn't overly hard — it was more like a savory, crispy jeon (Korean pancake). Inside, the roe itself stayed moist and soft, and the contrast between the crispy outside and tender inside was fun.

![Chopsticks lifting a piece of crispy fried monkfish roe](https://img.superchart.com/images/ddoksuni-agujjim-jamsil-gonitwigim/ddoksuni-agujjim-jamsil-gonitwigim-19-1s3xu-900.webp)

![Sauce-soaked soft monkfish flesh and bean sprouts](https://img.superchart.com/images/ddoksuni-agujjim-jamsil-gonitwigim/ddoksuni-agujjim-jamsil-gonitwigim-20-k13m4-900.webp)

The monkfish flesh had the sauce deeply soaked in while staying soft, and it went really well with the bean sprouts. Since I really love agujjim and hadn't had it in a while, it tasted especially good that day. Picking up the monkfish and bean sprouts together in the spicy sauce, and occasionally adding a bite of the fried roe, gave it a different kind of fun compared to the agujjim I usually eat.

![Full spread of goni-twigim agujjim shared between two people](https://img.superchart.com/images/ddoksuni-agujjim-jamsil-gonitwigim/ddoksuni-agujjim-jamsil-gonitwigim-21-vo4le-900.webp)

The spice level can be adjusted to your preference, so if you're not great with spicy food, it might be good to mention the level you want when ordering.

## Is Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil good for family or group meals?

Ttoksuni Agujjim was perfectly fine as a meal for two, but thinking about the layout, it seemed especially well-suited for family outings or group gatherings. With private rooms, a larger group can eat without worrying much about other guests, and with parking and valet available, it's convenient when visiting with older family members too.

If you're around Olympic Park or Bangi-dong looking for somewhere to eat and craving agujjim, this would be a good stop. We got the agujjim we'd been craving for a while, and it was a pretty satisfying meal. Being able to enjoy not just the monkfish flesh and bean sprouts but also the fried roe made it a fun choice for anyone wanting to try something a little different from the usual agujjim. With private rooms and parking available, it's a place worth remembering — whether for a meal with your spouse or for family gatherings and group meals :)
