After finishing my day, I was looking for a cozy hideout where I could quietly set down the day's fatigue on my way home. In an alley in downtown Suwon, a soft, stylish sign light caught my eye and naturally pulled me in. It's the kind of charming Injedong solo bar you can drop into alone without any pressure and just relax, so I was excited even before the door opened. Blankets and tissues were nicely set up too. Even the house snack, pretzels, tasted great. The salty, crunchy texture brought out the flavor of the drinks so well that I couldn't stop reaching for them while waiting for my first order to arrive. My first order, Nikka From The Barrel, arrived. The moment this weighty first glass, capturing the character of its angular bottle perfectly, was served, its distinct heavy presence filled the whole table. It's an entry-level Japanese whisky, and I remember once tasting it at Traders and considering buying it, but going with a Johnnie Walker Double Black instead. Tasting it again now, it's honestly amazing. The refined balance typical of Japanese blended malt combined with a bright oakiness made me gasp with delight the moment I took a sip. The ABV is on the higher side, so even on the rocks you really feel the alcohol. At a weighty 51.4%, even as the ice slowly melts, the backbone of the whisky doesn't collapse and holds its firm structure. On the rocks, the smokiness settles down a bit while the fruitiness and sweetness come forward more. As the cold temperature takes hold, the sharp spiciness softens, and dried apricot and sweet vanilla notes hiding underneath wrap around the tongue, revealing deeper charm the more you drink. ### Janhyang's signature cocktail 'Yeoun' When you order a cocktail, they make it right in front of you. Watching the skilled, delicate shaking process come together carefully before your eyes added a small extra romance to drinking alone. This is the signature Yeoun I ordered. Fitting the bar's name, it was set on the table with an elegant look that seemed like it would leave a deep, lingering aftertaste. The almond and coffee notes went so well together. Behind the nutty, sweet aroma, the slightly bitter, deep flavor of coffee beans layered in smoothly, gliding down the throat and leaving a sweet lingering finish that filled the whole mouth. ## Macallan 12 Double Cask, plus an unexpected free glass I ordered a Macallan 12 Double Cask. It didn't have the color typically associated with sherry casks, which puzzled me a bit — I wondered if it was just the lighting, or maybe I was already a little tipsy — so I was about to just drink it as is. It's not on the level of a full sherry cask whisky, but swirling it brought out that distinct sherry character, and drinking it right after the Nikka From The Barrel let me feel that sherry note even more fully. Amid the harmony of European and American oak, soft notes of raisin and honey bloomed, standing out even more vividly against the punch of the earlier bourbon barrel whisky. Cheaper whiskies on the rocks can taste like an alcoholic soft drink, but the Macallan 12's aroma and body never fall apart. Even as the ice melts, its signature creamy texture and woody structure hold up to the end, showing off a genuinely refined flavor. Falling into that sherry aroma in a solo bar with such good atmosphere felt so comfortable. With soothing music and a bright aroma coming together, my cluttered mind cleared right up — a perfect moment of rest at this Injedong solo bar.
