## In short

Gimcheongja Maeun Galbijjim Seohyeon Station Branch is a spicy braised pork rib (galbijjim) restaurant about 3 minutes on foot from Exit 4 of Seohyeon Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. A couple ordered pork galbijjim for two at medium heat and added flat glass noodles, then had the leftover sauce fried into rice — so good that they returned within a week. Gimcheongja is a spicy, tangy rib stew that makes you want rice, and the finishing fried rice is a must-order.

I found Gimcheongja Maeun Galbijjim while looking for a good spicy braised ribs (매운갈비찜) place near Seohyeon Station, and this is already my second visit. My husband and I stopped by without much expectation, but it was so much better than we thought that we came back within a week. The spicy, tangy sauce soaked into the ribs so well it demolished a whole bowl of rice, and the fried rice we made at the end with the leftover sauce was one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever had 👍 Today I want to introduce Gimcheongja Maeun Galbijjim, a Seohyeon Station restaurant good enough that I visited twice!

## How to walk from Seohyeon Station Exit 4, and what the restaurant is like

Gimcheongja Maeun Galbijjim is about a 3-minute walk from Seohyeon Station Exit 4. If you're driving, there's parking in the building, but since it's mechanical parking, I just parked at the nearby Bundang-gu Office and walked over.

The interior was clean and comfortable overall, a nice place to sit and eat. We arrived right at 5pm when break time ended and were the first customers in, but before long other guests started trickling in until the place filled up quickly. Apparently it's popular enough to have a wait during weekday lunch, when they also sell a generous, good-value pork galbijjim set menu from 11am to 2pm.

## Gimcheongja's menu and heat levels: how spicy is medium?

![Menu board listing beef galbijjim and pork galbijjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice-06-x0z29-900.webp)

You can choose between beef galbijjim and pork galbijjim depending on your taste, and the spice level comes in three stages: mild, medium, and spicy. We ordered medium, and it was about as spicy as Buldak Bokkeummyeon (fire noodles), so keep that in mind if you're not great with spicy food 🔥

## Pork galbijjim for two with added flat glass noodles: how it tasted

We ordered the pork galbijjim for two and also added a serving of flat glass noodles.

![Table set with kimchi, bean sprouts, macaroni corn salad and other banchan](https://img.superchart.com/images/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice-08-rzqx2-900.webp)

The basic banchan (side dishes) included kimchi, dried radish strips, bean sprouts, macaroni corn salad, and seaweed. On our second visit, we got perilla leaf pickles instead of the dried radish, so it seems the side dishes change a little each time.

![Pot of unheated pork galbijjim placed on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice-09-tjfsq-900.webp)

The galbijjim comes out already partly cooked from the kitchen, so it only needs about 4 more minutes of simmering at the table before you can dig in.

![Simmered pork galbijjim with thick, tangy sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice-10-180ib-900.webp)

Can you see that thick sauce? It's spicy and tangy but rich, and it soaked so deeply into the meat that I didn't notice any gamey smell at all. The sauce wasn't just aggressively spicy either — there was real umami depth, which paired perfectly with rice! It's the kind of flavor where one bite naturally makes you reach for more rice 😋

![Chewy tteokguk rice cakes inside the galbijjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice-12-d00w9-900.webp)

![Extra flat glass noodles lifted out of the pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice/seohyeon-spicy-galbijjim-noodle-friedrice-13-hx4ow-900.webp)

The tteokguk (rice cake soup) rice cakes tucked in here and there were a real treat thanks to their chewy texture! The extra flat glass noodles we added soaked up the sauce nicely, and the chewy noodles matched perfectly with the spicy sauce — there's already a small amount of flat glass noodles included as standard, but if you love noodles like me, I'd recommend adding more.

## Why you should order the sauce fried rice at the end

Once you've worked through the galbijjim, you can't skip the fried rice at the end! They fry rice in the leftover sauce, and it was so good — the sauce coated every single grain, plus there was a nutty sesame oil aroma on top. The spicy-yet-nutty balance was so well matched it was one of the most memorable fried rice dishes I've ever had. Even full, I kept reaching for more, so I definitely recommend ordering the fried rice!

From the spicy, tangy galbijjim to the nutty fried rice, this was a Seohyeon Station restaurant good enough that we visited twice. It's a place I want to come back to whenever I'm craving spicy braised ribs ☺️
