## In short

Hantiok is a Korean restaurant in Songpa, Seoul, serving gukbap and grilled meat. We tried the 600g LA galbi set with brisket soup, 300g Korean pork ribs, and dessert bibim-naengmyeon. Verdict: A great choice when you want both lightly seasoned LA galbi and clean-tasting pork ribs.

For my partner, who loves marinated galbi, we visited Hantiok in Bangi-dong, where the LA galbi and pork ribs are delicious, near Olympic Park and Bangi Station. Hantiok specializes in gukbap (rice soup) and meat, and apparently it is a long-running restaurant with flavors passed down through three generations over 50 years. Since they sell gukbap as well as meat, there were lots of people coming in for a meal and quite a few customers getting takeout too. The two of us ordered the LA galbi set, brisket soup, and pork ribs to try.

## Inside Hantiok Bangi Branch and family amenities

As soon as we walked in, the friendly staff welcomed us and showed us to our table. The neat, clean atmosphere made a really good first impression. There are also private rooms inside where you can enjoy your meal, so it seemed like a nice place to visit for a gathering.

Hantiok Bangi Branch is apparently a popular spot that many celebrities have visited, and I noticed chairs marked “A Seat Once Occupied.” Thinking that celebrities had actually sat there made it feel special, like I might get some good energy from it somehow, haha.

As you would expect from a Bangi-dong Korean restaurant that is great for families, there was a separate kids’ playroom too. It even had a claw machine and arcade games, so even I wanted to go in and have a look. The playroom rules are posted beside it, so it would be good to check them before using it.

## LA galbi set and brisket soup

First, the banchan (Korean side dishes) arrived neatly arranged. Everything was set out so nicely, and there was plenty to enjoy. If you needed more of any side dish, you could freely help yourself at the self-service bar. They also had children’s spoons and forks, which showed the owner’s thoughtful attention.

### LA marinated galbi set + brisket soup

The LA marinated galbi set comes with a total of 600g, along with brisket soup as part of the set.

We tried the brisket soup that came with it first. The broth was clean yet savory, and it was generously filled with meat, somyeon (thin wheat noodles), and mushrooms, making it wonderfully satisfying. The meat was tender with no unpleasant smell, so it seemed like it would be fine to share with children too.

Finally, the LA galbi we had been waiting for was grilled up beautifully. It was tender and juicy, and the marinade was not overly sweet, making it a perfect match with rice. The meat also came away from the bone easily, so it was convenient to hold and eat with your hands. With its balanced sweet-and-salty marinade, this is a dish anyone of any age could enjoy without feeling overwhelmed!

### One serving of Korean pork ribs

LA galbi alone felt a little incomplete, so we also ordered one serving of pork ribs. At 300g per serving, it was just the right amount for two people to sample. Because the marinade makes pork ribs burn easily, you need to keep moving them around and grill them carefully.

I tried a piece of the pork ribs once they were nicely browned. I thought they might taste similar to the LA galbi, but they had a completely different feel from what I expected. The seasoning was a little lighter than the LA galbi, with a subtle charcoal-grilled aroma. They were moist inside and tender in texture, and tasted even better wrapped in ssam (leaf wraps) or eaten with bibim-naengmyeon. The two meats had such different charms that I was glad we ordered both!

## Dessert bibim-naengmyeon with grilled meat

I prefer eating meat with naengmyeon (cold noodles) rather than rice, so I debated getting mul-naengmyeon but chose bibim-naengmyeon, which goes well with marinated galbi.

Even though it was a dessert-size bibim-naengmyeon, the portion was quite generous, and it looked so colorful and pretty too, haha. The noodles were closer to jjolmyeon (chewy spicy noodles) than regular naengmyeon, so they had an even springier bite. After mixing everything together with the sauce, the moist bibim-naengmyeon was ready.

![Springy bibim-naengmyeon mixed with sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/bangi-la-galbi-yangji-gukbap-hantiok/bangi-la-galbi-yangji-gukbap-hantiok-17-1aa38-966.webp)

With kimchi in it, it had a cool, tangy flavor, plus a sweet, lightly spicy sauce with a subtle tomato-sauce-like note. It made for a rather unusual bibim-naengmyeon. Topping it with meat meant I could keep eating without getting tired of it. Next time, I would like to order the refreshing mul-naengmyeon!

## Yulmu tea and coffee after the meal

To finish, we could have yulmu tea (job’s tears tea) and coffee before leaving. There was a sign saying it was the yulmu tea singer G-Dragon had drunk, which made me laugh for no reason 😆 I tried a cup too, and its sweet, nutty flavor was perfect for freshening up after the meal.
