## In short

Hannam Tatsu is an open-kitchen izakaya (Japanese pub) serving sake and Japanese dishes in Hannam-dong, Yongsan, Seoul, near Hangangjin Station. The writer returned to Hannam Tatsu with her husband after about 5 years. At the bar they ordered scallop steak (₩38,000), clear clam hot pot (₩35,000) and Tateyama Honjozo sake (₩75,000), and cleared every plate thanks to fresh ingredients and generous portions. ## What is Hannam Tatsu?

Hannam Tatsu (한남타츠) is an izakaya (Japanese-style pub) in Hannam-dong where you can enjoy sake and Japanese dishes. I was in Hannam-dong for the first time in a while, and I suddenly remembered Hannam Tatsu, which I had visited about 5 years ago, so I went back with my husband.

We booked ahead on Catchtable. The seating includes bar seats, rooms and regular tables. Hannam Tatsu has an open kitchen, and you can ask for sake recommendations to go with the dishes you want. Since you can watch the cooking up close in an open kitchen, we were guided to the bar seats.

## What did we order at Hannam Tatsu?

For food, we tried 2 dishes at Hannam Tatsu: the scallop steak (₩38,000) and the clear clam hot pot (nabe) (₩35,000)~ What I love about Hannam Tatsu is the open kitchen, so you can watch your food being cooked right in front of you.

They also have sashimi, and it's a big plus that you can gather with friends over Japanese food in Hannam-dong. My overall verdict on what we ordered: fresh ingredients + big portions! Both my husband and I really enjoyed it. We cleared every dish!!!

## Where to park at Hannam Tatsu

There's a parking lot a bit further along from Hannam Tatsu, and valet is available. I know this area well because lots of good restaurants are clustered around that parking lot. You can leave your car with the valet, so it's an easy visit.

## Hannam Tatsu menu and drinks list

I took photos of the Hannam Tatsu menu. It starts with the seasonal menu, followed by the regular menu and the drinks menu. There's a variety of sake, red wine, champagne and white wine, so order whatever you like. They also have beer and Hwayo (a Korean premium soju).

Since it's Japanese food, of course we went with sake: Tateyama Honjozo (₩75,000). The server brought the Tateyama Honjozo in an ice bucket to keep it cold.

## Does Tateyama Honjozo sake pair well with the food?

Tateyama Honjozo doesn't have that strong sake aroma, so it was a perfect pairing with the Japanese dishes we ordered at Hannam Tatsu. My husband had to drive, so of course the Tateyama Honjozo was all mine haha

I couldn't finish the whole 750ml bottle, so I took the rest home and enjoyed it there. For a complimentary side, they gave us seasoned pickled radish (danmuji).

## Hannam Tatsu atmosphere and service on a weekday evening

We visited Hannam Tatsu on a weekday, and it still seemed to draw a lot of people. I already knew the place, so the taste was guaranteed, and my husband and I had a lovely Japanese food date.

The staff were all friendly, and I liked how quickly the food was served. A plus for Hannam Tatsu is that the cooks and the servers are separate people.

## How do the clam hot pot and scallop steak taste?

The clear clam hot pot at Hannam Tatsu had a really generous amount of clams. Sipping Tateyama Honjozo with it felt like having a hangover soup at the same time.

The scallop steak once again showed off the fresh ingredients at Hannam Tatsu. The scallops were thick and the seafood was really fresh, so I think even people who aren't big on seafood would be happy with it.

I liked that the clam hot pot stays warm as you keep eating, and it paired nicely with the Tateyama Honjozo. A few bites of the thick shrimp meat and I was nicely full. Dipped in the sauce at the bottom, it was really delicious!

And just like that, the clam hot pot was gone... My husband says clams are the best of all shellfish!!! The date was worth it~ A good restaurant is all about going with someone special, right!!!

## Is Hannam Tatsu a good date spot in Seoul?

We had a lovely Japanese food date at Hannam Tatsu! It was my first time trying Tateyama Honjozo, and its light taste made it a really good pairing with the food. Valet parking is available, so even people coming from far away can visit comfortably.

I've known Hannam Tatsu for a long time, so the taste is guaranteed!!! I highly recommend it for blind dates and date nights.
