I've been really into hunting down good bakeries lately, so when I heard there was a solid one near Balsan Station, I went to check it out.

This time, instead of hanging out in the café, I picked out some tasty breads and took them home. Spoiler: I really want to recommend the salt bread here. I've eaten salt bread all over the place since I love it, and it's been a while since I thought "okay, this one's good." 😋

This is Byway Bakers Balsan Station!

## Location and hours for Byway Bakers Balsan Station

- 📍 Address: 서울 강서구 강서로56가길 45 대한민국무공수훈자회 1층
- ⏰ Hours: 09:00–20:00 (closed every Wednesday)
- 🚻 Restroom: separate for men/women

There's no parking available, so keep that in mind if you're visiting.

Besides takeout, delivery and reservations are also possible, and group visits are welcome too. The group tables can hold anywhere from 2 to 8 people, so it looked good for a casual meetup or a bigger group.

There's also a discount on drinks for takeout, so keep that in mind if you're grabbing something to go!

## What's the vibe like inside?

The exterior already had a fresh, bright feel to it. There's a terrace too, which looked like a nice spot to sit with a coffee on a good-weather day. The moment I stepped inside, the first thing that hit me was the smell of bread and coffee!

The scent of freshly baked bread mixed with coffee made me even hungrier than before. 😂 Inside, there was a big spread of financiers, salt bread, butter rice cake, tarts, baguettes, and more.

For the bread, you line a tray with parchment paper and pick out whatever you want yourself before paying, while drinks are ordered through a kiosk.

There were about 5 tables, and the spacing between them was pretty generous, so it didn't feel cramped at all. I used takeout this time, but next time I'd love to enjoy coffee and bread in the café itself. ☕️

## Bakery menu lineup

Byway Bakers had way more bread varieties than I expected. There's salt bread, mocha salt bread, ham & cheese salt bread, and egg salt bread, plus salty financier, fig financier, pecan financier, hwangchi cheese financier, choco almond financier, oreo financier, vanilla financier, and pistachio financier — quite the lineup.

There's also egg tart, apple cinnamon tart, and jambon-beurre baguette on the menu, so there's plenty to pick from depending on your mood.

They even had the currently trendy Dubai choco salt bread and Dubai choco financier.

Prices overall weren't intimidating, so it looked good for grabbing a few items or packing a gift box of baked goods.

## Drink menu

The drink menu was surprisingly varied too! ☕️ Along with basics like americano and latte, there's vanilla latte, condensed milk latte, salty cream latte, black sesame latte, milk tea, matcha latte, ades, and various teas.

Since there are so many bakery options, it was nice being able to pick a drink that pairs well with whatever bread you're having!

## What I ordered to go

- Iced americano
- Salty financier
- Choco almond financier
- Butter rice cake
- Salt bread

This is how it all came packed up.

### Iced Americano

First up, the americano! I'm not great with acidic coffee, so I was a bit nervous, but it turned out to have a mild, gentle acidity. If you like coffee with zero acidity, this might taste different to you, but it wasn't strong enough to bother me. Paired with the bread, it actually felt like it cleaned my palate nicely. ☕️

### Salty Financier

The salty financier hit that perfect sweet-and-salty combo. Honestly, the financier itself was just delicious.

![Cross-section of a salty financier cut in half](https://img.superchart.com/images/byway-bakers-balsan-salt-bread-takeout/byway-bakers-balsan-salt-bread-takeout-22-1rejs-900.webp)

Sometimes financiers can taste too greasy or come out dry, but this one had none of that — it had a dense, satisfying chew. The outside was baked just right and the inside was moist yet dense. Add the salty edge to that, and it was perfect with coffee. 😋

### Choco Almond Financier

If you love chocolate, the choco almond financier is a must. The chocolate coating was generously thick, so you get a clear hit of chocolate flavor in the first bite.

But the financier and the chocolate didn't feel disconnected — they went together really well. The almond bits scattered throughout added nuttiness and texture too. Great with coffee on a day you're craving something sweet. 🍫

### Salt Bread (₩2,900)

And now, today's real star! This place is a salt bread destination. I've eaten so much salt bread that I recognize a great one instantly, and Byway Bakers' salt bread was exactly my style.

The bottom had this crackly, crispy texture that I really loved. Salt bread's whole appeal is crispy outside, soft inside, and here that crackle at the bottom was especially satisfying. The saltiness wasn't overdone — just right — and a subtle buttery aroma rose up with each bite.

What I loved most was that this quality came at just ₩2,900. A lot of places charge a lot for a single salt bread these days, so being able to grab a few without worrying about the price was a big plus. If you love salt bread and are hunting for the best salt bread spot near Balsan Station, this one's worth a stop.

### Butter Rice Cake

The butter rice cake was tastier than I expected too. It looks like a standard bakery item from the outside, but inside it's moist and chewy.

The nutty buttery flavor paired well with the rice cake's signature chewiness, and I kept reaching for more. Beyond just breads, having a dessert with this kind of texture on the menu made picking things out even more fun.

## A bakery the locals already know about

One fun moment — I showed the bread I packed to a friend, and it turns out she lives near Balsan Station and already knew Byway Bakers. She was like, "I love this bakery, how did you find it?" and gave it a ton of praise, which weirdly made me proud haha. 😂 Locals really do know the good spots.

![Packed bread from Byway Bakers](https://img.superchart.com/images/byway-bakers-balsan-salt-bread-takeout/byway-bakers-balsan-salt-bread-takeout-23-ahtqq-900.webp)

I especially think this is worth visiting if you love salt bread — a real Balsan Station bakery find. With so many financier flavors and options like salt bread, butter rice cake, and egg tarts, it's great for grabbing a quick dessert solo, or packing several to share with family or friends.

![Mango yogurt cream Wakbboo salt bread on display](https://img.superchart.com/images/byway-bakers-balsan-salt-bread-takeout/byway-bakers-balsan-salt-bread-takeout-24-1goo5-900.webp)

And they even have that famous Wakbboo salt bread! 👀 I tried the classic salt bread this time, and it was so good I'm definitely trying the Wakbboo salt bread next visit. Especially curious about the mango & yogurt cream Wakbboo version. 🥭🥐

## Final thoughts

After trying everything I packed, I get why this place is known as a neighborhood bakery favorite. The salt bread was my favorite by far — crackly bottom, just the right amount of salty, plenty of buttery aroma. Highly recommend for anyone who loves salt bread. 🥐

The salty and choco almond financiers were satisfying too, with a dense chew instead of being dry, and the butter rice cake was moist and chewy in a nice, different way. If you're looking for a dessert café, salt bread spot, or financier spot near Balsan Station, give Byway Bakers Balsan Station a try! If you love bread, picking out different things here is genuinely fun. 😊
