Tonkatsu cut into bite-sized pieces sat on top of rice with curry poured over it, along with side dishes of green onion, soup broth, and pickled radish. The menu description said it's a dish where the rich flavor of the curry meets the crispy texture of the tonkatsu. Trying it, the tonkatsu turned out to be much less greasy than I expected — light and really tender, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy. The outside was crispy and the inside moist and soft, which paired really well with the curry. Apparently you can add spice level 1 through 3 for an extra ₩500, though we didn't add any spice level this time! It's tonkatsu fried crispy in Matsumi's own way, topped with rich cheddar cheese and a special spicy sauce. Visually, it looked amazing with cheddar cheese piled generously on top, and when I tried it, the tonkatsu itself wasn't greasy and was soft, so even with the cheese on top it wasn't heavy at all, which I hadn't expected. The rich, savory cheddar cheese went really well with the tonkatsu, and the spicy special sauce that came through here and there cut right through the cheese's richness, making it a flavor I kept going back for! The crispy outside and moist, tender inside of the tonkatsu, combined with the savory cheese and the sweet-spicy sauce, made for a really great combination. Miso katsu is apparently also one of Matsumi's best menu items! It's Nagoya-style miso katsu reinterpreted in Matsumi's own way, and it's said to be a signature dish where the white miso sauce and green onion really shine together. A generous amount of sweet white miso sauce was poured over the tonkatsu, and the sauce wasn't too salty but sweet, so it went really well with the tonkatsu! The green onion on top especially cut through what could otherwise feel rich, and combined with the tender tonkatsu and sweet miso sauce, it was perfect to eat with rice too. Personally, the sauce was so good I kept dipping the tonkatsu generously into it! If you like Nagoya-style miso katsu, I think you'll be satisfied with this dish. ## Is Matsumi a good spot for a family dinner? If you're craving delicious tonkatsu — whether you're on a date in Seokchon, out for a family meal, or eating solo — definitely visit Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch! With such a wide variety of tonkatsu types and a broad menu selection, it was easy to pick something to my taste, and above all, the tonkatsu was light yet tender, so I ate really well.
