Whenever I crave a hearty, healthy meal, hearty Korean food always comes to mind. Looking for a dish that everyone, young and old, loves, I recently visited Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch, which has been getting a lot of buzz among locals as a grilled fish restaurant in Jowon-dong.

I often eat grilled fish sets out, but I heard this place had something special beyond just being a regular restaurant, so I decided to make it my weekend meal spot.

What really raised my expectations before visiting was that they have an all-you-can-eat self-bar where you can enjoy side dishes just as good as the main dish. I wanted to check for myself whether this Jowon-dong, Suwon spot really lives up to the hype, so here's my detailed record.

## Location, hours, and parking

The restaurant is located in Jowon-dong, Jangan-gu, and takes up the entire second floor of the building.

Before visiting, the most important thing I checked was whether there was parking. Luckily, there's a spacious dedicated lot right behind the restaurant, making it very convenient to drive there.

A large banner on the wall warns against parking outside the designated spots, so just make sure to check the marked parking lines.

## Beyond expectations: a buffet-level all-you-can-eat self-bar

Once you enter the building, you go up the stairs to the second floor, and the various menu names written on each step really stir up your appetite.

As soon as you step inside, you notice how clean and pleasant the interior is, and you can easily order your grilled fish set through the tablet PC installed at each table.

Sitting down, I used the tablet to order the wood-fired mackerel set (₩16,000) and the wood-fired flounder set (₩15,000) with the brown rice option, then immediately headed to the all-you-can-eat self-bar in the center of the restaurant.

I've been to countless grilled fish restaurants in Jowon-dong, Suwon, but it's genuinely rare to find one that offers such a varied and carefully prepared spread.

Thanks to the all-you-can-eat self-bar, one basic bowl of rice is nowhere near enough. They've also thoughtfully set up big bowls, gochujang (red chili paste), ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), and fresh lettuce so you can make your own bibimbap (mixed rice) to taste — you can really feel the deep expertise of a true Jowon-dong, Suwon local favorite here.

While I was happily whetting my appetite with all the dishes from the self-bar, the main dish — the grilled fish set — finally arrived, neatly arranged on a wooden tray.

True to the name Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, the vivid appearance of the mackerel and flounder grilled quickly in a high-heat dedicated clay oven catches your eye instantly.

They're big and thick, on a completely different level from fish grilled in a regular pan — exactly what you'd expect from a real grilled fish spot in Jowon-dong.

The mackerel that came out had a wonderful contrast between the crispy, golden-brown skin and the moist, rich flesh that cooked while trapping in moisture inside the wood-fired oven — truly excellent.

Using my chopsticks to pull off a big, thick piece of mackerel and pile it onto the savory brown rice, the nutty flavor exploded with every bite.

The flounder was also excellent, soft yet chewy, and not too salty — perfect for dipping lightly into the soy sauce and wasabi served alongside.

Paired with the warm, deep-flavored seaweed soup served in a brass bowl, it was a truly satisfying and filling meal. After tasting a grilled fish set made up of such quality main dishes and excellent side dishes, I immediately thought I'd have to come back again.

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Branch is a Jowon-dong, Suwon restaurant that delivered high satisfaction from start to finish.
