## In short

Gyodong Nakwon is an izakaya tucked into a Gyodong alley in Jung-gu, Daegu, with a roofed semi-outdoor terrace and a large-screen zone. The crab tomalley pasta (₩16,000) came with a thick cream sauce and the cheese omelet (₩10,000) with soft, pillowy egg, while highballs ran ₩8,000 across a wide lineup. Thanks to the roof over the terrace, Gyodong Nakwon delivers that outdoor street-tent drinking mood whatever the weather.

This is Ryunomom! Today I want to introduce a seriously atmospheric bar I found in Gyodong, the hottest alley in Daegu right now. It's Gyodong Nakwon (교동낙원), an izakaya where you can feel that Japanese vibe right in the middle of downtown. ✨ Every time I passed by there was always a long wait, so I'd been curious for ages — and I finally made it! It's close to 2.28 Park and Gongpyeong intersection, and just a short walk from Jungangno Station, so it's really accessible too. Here's my review!

## What Gyodong Nakwon looks like and how to find it in Daegu

Gyodong Nakwon is an izakaya on the 1st floor of 627 Gukchaebosang-ro in Jung-gu, Daegu, right next to Melting Point. The retro orange exterior, which brings to mind a late-night diner in Japan, catches your eye from far away.

Thanks to the distinctive retro orange tone-on-tone sign lighting up the alley from a distance, I could find it right away without getting lost. The bold, friendly Japanese lettering らくえん (Rakuen) on the sign, along with the cute little phone number design, gives off the exotic feeling of stepping into a quiet, atmospheric back-alley late-night diner in Japan. With floor-to-ceiling windows all around, the warm, cozy orange light inside spills out gently — genuinely charming.

Since it's such a hot izakaya in Gyodong, Daegu, waiting is basically mandatory on weekends or during peak hours. Right next to the front door there are 4 bright orange waiting chairs lined up that match the exterior perfectly, so even the wait isn't boring.

## The big-screen zone and roofed terrace seats at Gyodong Nakwon

Seating at Gyodong Nakwon is split into dachi bar seats in front of the open kitchen, a large-screen zone, and a semi-outdoor roofed terrace deeper inside the store. The large screen and the mood lighting on the terrace are this place's core spots.

Once you step inside, warm, deep-toned wood furniture is arranged throughout, giving a comfortable feeling. The long dachi bar seats stretching out in front of the open kitchen are perfect for a solo drink while peeking at the kitchen's lively energy, or for cozying up close with a date for a good chat — it feels like a little hideout.

Gyodong Nakwon's hidden card is definitely the semi-outdoor terrace tucked away inside the store! Thanks to a sturdy roof overhead, you can enjoy that romantic street-tent (yajang) drinking mood year-round, no matter the weather. Bare bulb lights scattered around, blending with the soft orange lamps, complete the best atmosphere for enjoying a drink.

## Gyodong Nakwon menu: highball and traditional liquor prices

Gyodong Nakwon's menu is divided into nabe (hot pot), yaki (stir-fry/grill), age (fried dishes), sashimi, and sides. Highballs are around ₩8,000, traditional liquors ₩20,000–30,000.

True to a Gyodong izakaya proud of its solid Japanese-style food lineup, the menu is full of delicious-looking dishes the moment you open it. Nabe (hot pot), yaki (stir-fry/grill), age (fried), sashimi, and easy-going side dishes are all organized cleanly by category, making it easy to pick according to your taste.

The highball selection, essential at any izakaya, is really varied! From the sweet peach grape highball (₩8,000) to refreshing lemon/yuja highballs, and the cult-favorite Earl Grey highball (₩8,000) plus non-alcoholic highballs, even people who can't drink much can still enjoy the vibe. Beyond soju and beer, there's a traditional liquor lineup — Seolwon, Yantai Gaoliang, Dowon Gyeolui, Seoului Bam — priced reasonably at ₩20,000–30,000, great for a special drinking night with people you care about.

## Signature crab tomalley pasta, ₩16,000

Gyodong Nakwon's signature dish is the crab tomalley pasta (₩16,000). It's said to be ordered at nearly every table, and the thick cream sauce was infused with the rich flavor of crab tomalley.

I finally got to try the famous crab tomalley pasta (₩16,000), said to be a must-order at every table at Gyodong Nakwon! It comes out beautifully in a wide bowl — overwhelming just visually. The thick, rich cream sauce base was deeply infused with the distinctive rich, heavy flavor of crab tomalley, and I let out a gasp with the very first bite.

![Close-up of crab tomalley pasta topped with cheese powder and parsley](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodong-nakwon-screen-terrace-cheese-omelet/gyodong-nakwon-screen-terrace-cheese-omelet-12-14dm7-966.webp)

![Noodles from the crab tomalley pasta topped with cocktail shrimp](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodong-nakwon-screen-terrace-cheese-omelet/gyodong-nakwon-screen-terrace-cheese-omelet-13-fsvnp-966.webp)

On top of the sauce, plenty of cheese powder and parsley add savoriness, and crunchy green onion plus a crab salad are served on the side, so you never get tired of it to the last bite. Especially with plump, chewy cocktail shrimp packed generously in, the popping texture was perfect too. The sauce clung to the noodles without sliding off, making this a high-quality drinking snack that rivals dedicated pasta restaurants.

## Cheese omelet, ₩10,000: sweet and salty done right

Gyodong Nakwon's cheese omelet (₩10,000) is a sweet-and-salty snack with egg as fluffy as pudding. I ordered it alongside the crab tomalley pasta, and it went especially well with soju.

![A plate of cheese omelet drizzled with sauce in a zigzag pattern](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodong-nakwon-screen-terrace-cheese-omelet/gyodong-nakwon-screen-terrace-cheese-omelet-14-1xspz-966.webp)

Another hidden gem I ordered along with the crab tomalley pasta was the cheese omelet (₩10,000), which makes your mouth water just looking at it! Served on a pretty plate with a real Japanese-izakaya vibe, the plump, generously rolled omelet passed the visual test immediately. The sauce was drizzled generously in a pretty zigzag pattern too, making it great for photos.

![Cheese omelet split open with melted cheese spilling out](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodong-nakwon-screen-terrace-cheese-omelet/gyodong-nakwon-screen-terrace-cheese-omelet-15-1pnls-966.webp)

Split it open with your chopsticks and take a big bite — the egg is as fluffy and soft as pudding, melting away in your mouth. Between the soft egg layers, savory salty cheese is generously melted in, so each bite releases a deep flavor all through your mouth. The sweet-salty sauce drizzled on top strikes a perfect golden balance with the cheese's savoriness, so you keep reaching for more. It's not too intense and stays smooth, pairing really well with clean, refreshing Jinro soju — the best side dish.

## Is Gyodong Nakwon worth a visit? Overall score

Gyodong Nakwon is Gyodong's best atmosphere spot, where you can fully soak in that exotic street-tent mood on a cool semi-outdoor terrace with a large screen. This was Ryunomom, signing off.
