## In short

Out of Order is a Korean dining restaurant near Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. I visited at Sunday opening time and tried the Korean melon salad, wood-fired dakgalbi, and sweet potato brûlée for ₩50,000. Verdict: Come for warm daylight and thoughtful takes on familiar Korean ingredients.

## In search of a sunny Seongsu-dong lunch

On a Sunday morning, I set out on a whim because I wanted a relaxed lunch at a restaurant in Seongsu-dong with beautiful natural light. I especially love places where sunlight, full of the season’s feeling, pours in through the windows. (I’m a total sunlight, terrace, and rooftop fan haha.)

On my way to Seongsu, I was scrolling through social media when one stylish photo caught my eye, leading me to Out of Order, a great date-spot restaurant near Seongsu Station.

> By the window where sunlight settled so clearly, every dish carried a thoughtful touch. It was time away from daily rushes, focused entirely on the food and the space.

## The warmth of the space and Seongsu-dong atmosphere

It is 500 m from Exit 2 of Seongsu Station, about a five-minute walk. I usually like to feel a space’s natural character when it is quiet and uncrowded, so I arrived right at the 11:30 opening time. But there were already people who had arrived before me and were enjoying their meals! Hahaha.

After noon, it was popular enough that nearly every seat was full.

If you plan to visit on a weekend, I recommend reserving a table ahead of time. Inside, Seongsu-dong’s signature stylish feel and tidy wood tones come together without feeling overdone. The windows flooding the room with sun make it bright, while the chefs cooking in the open kitchen add energy.

## How to order the lunch menu

You order through the QR code on the table, then pay at the counter as you leave after your meal. There are separate lunch-only and dinner-only dishes, so checking the menu before deciding when to visit is a small helpful tip.

I tried the lunch menu this time, but I am already thinking of returning soon for the dishes served only at dinner.

### What I ordered

- Korean melon salad ₩14,000
- Wood-fired dakgalbi ₩28,000
- Sweet potato brûlée ₩8,000

## Korean melon salad with chamnamul

The Korean melon salad was the first to arrive, and it looked as though it had captured summer’s refreshing coolness exactly. I already love salads with Korean melon, so I seek them out at different places whenever summer comes around. Usually they are paired with arugula, but this Seongsu Korean dining spot unusually used chamnamul, a fragrant Korean herb!

Chamnamul’s bright yet lightly pungent aroma neatly balanced the Korean melon’s sweet crunch, making the restaurant’s Korean character feel even more pronounced. It was a memorable Korean-style freshness, quite different from arugula’s bitterness.

The chamnamul aroma is gently quite strong, so try one bite with just one or two leaves of it (not too much!), crisp Korean melon, a little tangy mandarin dressing, and salty prosciutto. The dressing’s lively citrus scent lifts the fresh grassy note of the herb and gives the melon’s sweetness more dimension, filling your mouth with happy flavor!

When I left, I noticed that nearly every table had either this Korean melon salad or grilled young cabbage, proof that it is one of Out of Order’s signature dishes.

## Wood-fired dakgalbi with smoky notes and sweet potato purée

The dakgalbi, spicy stir-fried chicken, was cooked on a wood-fire grill, giving it a gentle smokiness and deep wood aroma. Though the pieces were large and quite thick, they stayed moist all the way through, with a wonderfully chewy, clean-tasting texture.

![Thick-cut wood-fired dakgalbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongsu-korean-dining-sunlight-outoforder/seongsu-korean-dining-sunlight-outoforder-18-1fnvu-900.webp)

![Dakgalbi served with sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongsu-korean-dining-sunlight-outoforder/seongsu-korean-dining-sunlight-outoforder-19-1m6io-900.webp)

Can you see how thick the dakgalbi is? Hahaha. Thick chicken with plenty of sauce! More than anything, the chestnut sweet potato purée that grounds the dish was so impressive.

Rather than an excessive sweetness, the sweet potato’s subtle sweetness and soft texture wrapped around the chicken’s wild fire-kissed flavor. It had the polished balance of a well-grilled steak with mashed potatoes. Instead of the bold, intensely seasoned dakgalbi one might expect, it highlighted a chef’s touch that presents Korean food like refined dining.

## A sweet finish with sweet potato brûlée

This brûlée was made with chestnut sweet potato baked in the oven for 40 minutes. Beneath its thin, golden-burnished sugar coating was vivid yellow sweet potato flesh—oh my goodness! There was no way this could taste bad!

I loved that the skin slipped smoothly away from the flesh, making it easy to scoop up neatly. Crisp, crackling sugar sweetness, soft ice cream, and chewy, sweet potato came together for a deeper, more comforting sweetness than a typical brûlée. It was such a satisfying dessert to end a Seongsu-dong date that I could eat it every day.

## A chef’s touch on familiar Korean food

Out of Order in Seongsu is a dining restaurant where the chef sensibly reinterprets the appeal of ingredients familiar to us, rather than relying on overpowering seasoning.

The food was easy on the stomach, yet every dish had a clear point of view and personality that made me want to return. If you are curious about a different kind of Korean meal in Seongsu under warm sunlight, or need an atmospheric place near Seongsu Station for a date or gathering, I recommend stopping by!
