## In short

Gukgojip is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Dogok-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, a short walk from Exit 4 of Yangjae Station, with a large dining room spread across the first floor and the basement. Two people ate two servings of boneless yangnyeom galbi (marinated short rib), thick pork belly skin with samgyeopsal, gabrisal, rice and post-meal naengmyeon (cold noodles) for a total of 85,000 won, and the complimentary kongbiji jjigae (ground soybean stew) still had real bean texture. With roomy tables, Gukgojip works just as well for two as it does for a big work dinner.

Hi everyone, it's Sum! Today's post is a barbecue review after a while haha. My partner Collie Park kept singing about wanting yangnyeom galbi (marinated short ribs), so I went hunting for a Korean BBQ place near Yangjae Station.

![Main photo from a visit to Gukgojip, a Korean BBQ restaurant near Yangjae Station](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-01-1s8jq-1200.webp)

We ended up at Gukgojip, pretty famous as a Yangjae Station restaurant! It's close to the station and has a wide variety of meat, so we ate really well this time. Here's my review of Gukgojip, a Dogok-dong Korean BBQ spot.

## Where is Gukgojip? Location, hours and parking near Yangjae Station

Gukgojip is at 14 Nambusunhwan-ro 355-gil, 1st floor, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and it's open Mon–Sun 10:00–22:00 (closed on Chuseok day). The nearest station is Yangjae Station on Line 3 / Sinbundang Line.

- 📍 Location: 14 Nambusunhwan-ro 355-gil, 1st floor, Gangnam-gu, Seoul
- ⏰ Hours: Mon–Sun 10:00–22:00 (closed on Chuseok day)
- 🚗 Parking available
- 🚇 Nearest station: Yangjae Station (Line 3 / Sinbundang Line)

It's an easy walk from Exit 4 of Yangjae Station, so it's great for public transit. There's also parking right next to the restaurant, so it's good to know if you're driving!

## Inside Gukgojip: group dinner seating from the first floor down to the basement

Gukgojip apparently started as a gukbap (rice and soup) restaurant in Yecheon, North Gyeongsang Province, in 1970, and is now run by the third generation of the family.

![Introduction image of Gukgojip, which started in Yecheon, North Gyeongsang Province in 1970](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-02-11pj3-966.webp)
*Source: Gukgojip*

Gukbap during the day, meat at night! That's the concept here, so besides the barbecue there's a good range of gukbap and other meal options too.

![Interior of Gukgojip's first-floor dining hall](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-03-1k544-966.webp)

The moment I walked in, I was surprised at how spacious it was! There's the first floor plus a basement space, so tables are quite generously laid out.

![Group dinner seating in Gukgojip's basement](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-04-1i7hr-966.webp)
*The basement is perfect for a group dinner!*

That's probably why it also felt like a good spot for a family meal out or a group work dinner — a solid Korean BBQ restaurant near Yangjae Station.

![Gukgojip's spacious barbecue table](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-05-op1i5-966.webp)

And I liked that the tables weren't cramped! Sometimes at two-tops the table is so small that once you've got the grill, side dishes, stew, and rice on there, there's no room left ㅠㅠ But here the tables had plenty of room, so we could lay out the meat, side dishes, and stew without any squeezing haha. Table space actually matters a lot for a group dinner, and Gukgojip did well there too!

## Gukgojip's menu, table sauces and complimentary kongbiji jjigae

![Gukgojip's meat menu board](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-06-1ht37-966.webp)
*Meat menu*

![Gukgojip's lunch menu board](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-07-1op79-966.webp)
*Lunch menu*

The meat menu was more varied than I expected. From hand-cut fresh galbi to yangnyeom galbi, samgyeopsal, and gabrisal, there's a wide range of pork options, plus beef dishes and meal items. Since we had a clear mission today, we started with the yangnyeom galbi haha.

![Basic sauces — salt, wasabi, salted shrimp, ssamjang — and side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-08-dz9wq-966.webp)

When you order meat, salt, wasabi, salted shrimp (melitgot), and ssamjang come out as the basic sauces. I'll show you which pairing worked with which meat later.

And something unusual at Gukgojip was the bean curd stew! At first I thought, is this just doenjang stew? But it turned out to be bean curd (biji) stew haha.

It's a proper biji stew with real bean texture, still a bit grainy when you chew it ㅠㅠ There was meat in it too, so it was surprisingly filling.

The first serving of biji stew comes free, and it's ₩5,000 to add another. Eating meat, then having a bite of warm stew with rice — surprisingly good combo!

### Boneless yangnyeom galbi (marinated short rib) at Gukgojip

The yangnyeom galbi Collie Park kept singing about! Right off the bat, the look was exactly what you picture when you think yangnyeom galbi.

![A plate of Gukgojip's boneless yangnyeom galbi, pre-grilled](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-09-qbt01-966.webp)

The marinade was sweet all the way through, so once grilled, you really get that classic sweet galbi flavor.

![Yangnyeom galbi grilled to a sweet, caramelized finish](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-11-l780h-966.webp)

It's especially good wrapped in a lettuce leaf, and also great with onion.

But honestly, for me nothing beat yangnyeom galbi on top of plain white rice ㅠㅠ A spoonful of rice with a piece of meat on top — that's rice-thief territory! Collie Park was the one singing about it, but I ended up being the more excited eater hahahahaha.

### Thick pork belly skin and samgyeopsal

The thick pork belly skin cut is pork neck with the skin still attached. That makes it incredibly chewy!!!

![Cross-section of the thick pork belly skin cut](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-14-1e5kb-966.webp)
*The cross-section is gorgeous,,,,*

Because the skin is thick, the more you chew, the more you really feel that bouncy, chewy texture.

Ssamjang paired best with the thick pork belly skin. After the sweetness of the yangnyeom galbi, having this chewy option in between kept things from getting monotonous!!!!!!

![Thick pork belly skin dipped in ssamjang](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-15-1g0qg-966.webp)

The samgyeopsal was great quality even raw!!!!!

![A plate of Gukgojip's raw samgyeopsal](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-16-louo9-966.webp)

We agreed the samgyeopsal had to be eaten wrapped up with the white kimchi that came as a basic side dish, no question about it,,,,

### Gabrisal, the pork jowl cut

Last meat: gabrisal!

![Raw gabrisal at Gukgojip](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-17-r7u60-966.webp)

It's incredibly tender! No toughness at all when you chew, just melts smoothly.

![Gabrisal dipped in salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-18-1i0s1-966.webp)
*Starting with salt first*

It was honestly tender enough to bite straight into haha.

![A piece of gabrisal grilled until tender](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-19-19f57-966.webp)

![Gabrisal topped with wasabi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-20-162m3-966.webp)

Gabrisal really shines with wasabi! A dab of wasabi on a piece of meat cuts the richness and makes the flavor cleaner.

![Gabrisal and side items on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-21-1q9hg-966.webp)

### Naengmyeon (cold noodles) to finish the meal

Can't skip naengmyeon (cold noodles), meat's best friend! We ordered the bibim (spicy mixed) style. We knew we'd be eating a lot of meat so we got it as a post-meal dish, but there's a regular-size naengmyeon too, so keep that in mind!

But it wasn't a typical bibim naengmyeon — it was more of a chogye-bibim guksu style, with chicken on top.

The sauce was fairly rich and thick, so it went well alongside the meat. The noodles were nice and chewy too, which I liked.

A bite of meat, then a bite of the mixed noodles — pure bliss. If you're doing Korean BBQ and skip ordering naengmyeon, you're missing out ㅠ

![Post-meal naengmyeon in chogye-bibim guksu style with chicken on top](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-22-gyzce-966.webp)

Collie Park kept singing about wanting meat, and today we cleared that mission perfectly again!

## How much for two? Gukgojip's 85,000 won bill breakdown

![Receipt for a two-person order at Gukgojip](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-dinner-23-l3oho-966.webp)

The total for two at Gukgojip was ₩85,000. Here's what we ordered:

- Boneless yangnyeom galbi, 2 servings: ₩36,000
- Thick pork belly skin and samgyeopsal: ₩20,000
- Gabrisal: ₩22,000
- Rice: ₩1,000
- Post-meal naengmyeon: ₩6,000
- Total: ₩85,000

Two servings of yangnyeom galbi, three kinds of meat, rice, and naengmyeon — we walked out of there really full and satisfied, the two of us haha.

## Who should eat at Gukgojip?

So the conclusion is!!! Gukgojip, a well-known Korean BBQ restaurant near Yangjae Station. This whole trip started with Collie Park's yangnyeom galbi singing haha, and we ate very well.

I liked being able to try a range of different menu items. The yangnyeom galbi was the textbook sweet galbi, great with rice; the thick pork belly skin had that proper chewy texture!; and the gabrisal was so tender, especially good with wasabi. The bean curd stew that comes as a default was also a nice surprise — more textured with real bean bits than the usual smooth version. The restaurant is spacious too, so it works well for a couple, but it's also great for a group work dinner or gathering!

*Yes, even Yoo Jae-suk has eaten here!*

If you're looking for a good restaurant or Korean BBQ spot near Yangjae Station, Gukgojip is worth putting on your list :)
