## In short

Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch is a Korean noodle restaurant near Lotte Outlet Yongin. My husband and I had spicy chadol minari ssam kalguksu, seafood pajeon, and perilla-oil kkakdugi fried rice. I liked eating the beef and minari first before cooking the noodles, and felt the portions and taste justified the prices.

While out with my husband near Lotte Outlet Yongin on the weekend, we were craving something with a warm broth, so we went to Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch (장원갑칼국수 용인기흥점).

## Where is it, and was parking convenient?

The restaurant was easy to find on a main road right near Lotte Outlet Yongin. Its neat, tidy entrance made a good first impression.

There was ample parking space in front of and behind the building. The interior was also clean, and the tables were spaced far enough apart that we could eat without paying much attention to neighboring tables.

## What were the break time and ordering process like?

The hours listed when I visited were 10:30 AM to 9 PM, with a break time from 3 to 5 PM. We arrived just before the break time ended, waited briefly, then went in. It was convenient to choose and order from the tablet at our table.

## How did we eat the chadol minari ssam kalguksu?

We ordered two servings of chadol minari ssam kalguksu (knife-cut noodles with thinly sliced beef brisket and water parsley wraps), along with one shrimp seafood pajeon (Korean scallion pancake).

We could choose white, spicy, or mala broth. We chose the spicy option.

The food arrived more quickly than expected. The pot was generously topped with thinly sliced beef brisket, minari (water parsley), and mushrooms.

We lightly cooked the beef brisket, then dipped it with the minari in wasabi soy sauce. The savory beef and fragrant minari worked well together. After eating some of the beef and minari, we added the noodles; their chewy texture went well with the spicy broth.

Adding Cheongyang chili peppers from the self-service bar made the broth spicier and fresher-tasting, which suited my preference.

The geotjeori (fresh kimchi) served alongside was crisp and refreshing, so I went back for more several times.

## How was the shrimp seafood pajeon for sharing between two?

The shrimp seafood pajeon arrived nicely browned, with plenty of shrimp and squid.

It was crisp outside and moist inside. The seafood had a satisfying bite, so although it was a side dish, it felt like a main dish.

It was quite a large portion, but my husband and I finished it. The self-service bar also had containers for packing up leftovers.

## How were the finishing fried rice and menu prices?

We saved a little kalguksu broth and finished with deulgireum kkakdugi bokkeumbap (perilla-oil cubed-radish-kimchi fried rice). It was fun to fry it ourselves, and the aroma of perilla oil was complemented by the crisp texture of the kkakdugi. Even though I was already full, I kept reaching for it.

At the time of my visit, the chadol minari ssam kalguksu was ₩14,900 per serving, and the shrimp seafood pajeon was ₩13,500. Considering the taste and portion sizes, I felt the prices were reasonable.

## What was convenient during the meal?

The staff were kind, and I liked that the table had instructions for adjusting the induction heat and an hourglass showing how long to cook the kalguksu. After finishing our meal, we had misutgaru (multigrain powder drink) and old-fashioned cookies by the counter. They were nutty and sweet, making a nice palate cleanser.

I liked the format of eating the beef brisket and minari shabu-shabu-style first, then continuing with kalguksu. It was a nice stop during an outing with my husband, and I thought it would also be fine for a meal with family or friends.
