## In short

Bapkkot Hana Pieotne is a Korean restaurant on Sinwonsa-ro in Gyeryong-myeon, Gongju, Chungnam, known for its cheonnyeoncho (prickly pear cactus) tteokgalbi set meal. After a walk around Sinwonsa Temple on Gyeryongsan, two diners ordered two of the sets at Bapkkot Hana Pieotne (35,000 won per person, 70,000 won total) and worked slowly through the grilled tteokgalbi patties and seasonal namul side dishes. Everything is cooked to order, so the wait is real, but with time to spare it is a satisfying spread for a special occasion.

## A Gongju Korean restaurant after a walk at Sinwonsa Temple

We'd gone out for a walk around Sinwonsa Temple on Gyeryongsan and started craving a proper, well-laid Korean meal, so we stopped by Bapkkot Hana Pieotne (밥꽃하나피었네) in Gongju. Even the name feels warm and homey. The two of us ordered two servings of the cheonnyeoncho tteokgalbi (grilled seasoned beef patty) set. It's ₩35,000 per person, so ₩70,000 total. It was exactly the kind of spread you want on a day when you feel like slowly working through several dishes made with seasonal ingredients. After taking in the quiet scenery around Sinwonsa, sitting down comfortably to a warm meal made the whole trip feel more unhurried.

## What kind of restaurant is Bapkkot Hana Pieotne?

Bapkkot Hana Pieotne is introduced as a Gongju-designated farm-to-table restaurant, a Gongju top restaurant, and a Gongju local specialty restaurant. It's also a certified Chungnam local food establishment, which caught my eye. The signage inside notes it's been featured on several TV programs, but more than any flashy description, what stood out was that it's steadily served Korean food made with local ingredients. If you're looking for Gongju-style Korean food on a trip to Gyeryongsan or Sinwonsa, this place is worth knowing.

## How was the cheonnyeoncho tteokgalbi set for two?

As the name suggests, the cheonnyeoncho tteokgalbi set is a spread centered on tteokgalbi. Seeing the neatly arranged dishes made us feel taken care of, and it was a nice size for two people sitting across from each other to try a bit of everything. The tteokgalbi had a nicely charred, appetizing exterior with a savory flavor upfront, and the inside was soft and moist, easy to eat without feeling heavy. The meaty aroma and subtle sweetness spread with each bite and paired naturally with the rice, and alternating with the side dishes kept the meal from feeling repetitive. The seasoning wasn't overly strong either, so we could enjoy it comfortably down to the last bite.

### The namul side dishes and rice that come with the set

The real strength of a set meal is that it's not just the main dish that stays with you — the side dishes and rice all flow together into one experience. We'd try a plain side dish before the tteokgalbi, or add in some palate-refreshing vegetables, and the same tteokgalbi ended up giving off slightly different impressions each time. Rather than pushing bold, punchy flavors, this is a spread that brings out the aroma and texture of each ingredient, which made it feel well suited to a family meal with parents or a calm group gathering.

## No MSG and cooked to order: how long is the wait?

For customers' health, the restaurant says it uses no MSG at all, and uses medicinal herbs, namul (seasoned greens), and ssam (wrap) vegetables grown on its own farm depending on the season. Because everything is cooked fresh once you order, food can take a bit of time to come out. In practice, at a place like this, it's better to visit with a relaxed schedule rather than rushing, and just wait for the full spread to come together. If you think of the wait for carefully prepared food as part of the meal itself, the whole experience feels more satisfying.

## Private rooms, group seating, parking and pets

The restaurant notes that it has a spacious interior and parking to accommodate family gatherings or group get-togethers. There are private rooms for 8 to 20 people and group seating for up to 68, plus three free parking lots. Pets are also allowed, so if you need any of these facilities, it's worth confirming the conditions before booking or visiting.

## Is 70,000 won for two worth it at Bapkkot Hana Pieotne?

What we appreciated most about Bapkkot Hana Pieotne, eating two servings of the cheonnyeoncho tteokgalbi set, was being able to enjoy Korean food that captured the local Gongju atmosphere at an unhurried pace. At ₩35,000 per person, it's more than a single-dish meal, but thought of as a carefully prepared set built around tteokgalbi, it worked well as a meal for a special day. If you're looking for a restaurant to take your parents to around a Gyeryongsan drive or a Sinwonsa visit, or a spot for a family gathering or group meal, this is a Gongju restaurant in Chungnam worth remembering.
