## In short

Panda Dim Sum is a dim sum and Peking duck restaurant on the second floor of a side street in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The order was xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), flying fish roe shumai, half a Peking duck and a dongpo pork rice bowl, and dipping the crispy duck skin on its own into sugar was the most memorable bite of the day. Panda Dim Sum was meant to be a light dim sum stop, but sharing several dishes turned out to be the better call.

## Where to eat dim sum and Peking duck in Yeonnam-dong: Panda Dim Sum

I was looking for a place in Yeonnam-dong where I could have dim sum and Peking duck together, and ended up at Panda Dim Sum. I'd originally planned to just order xiaolongbao and flying fish roe shumai, but once I saw Peking duck on the menu I couldn't just walk past it. After some back and forth, I ordered xiaolongbao, flying fish roe shumai, and half a Peking duck, and came away having eaten a really hearty meal.

Walking through the Yeonnam-dong alleys, you'll spot Panda Dim Sum easily. True to being a dim sum specialist, the exterior had that Chinese restaurant feel, and it fit right in with the neighborhood vibe. It seemed like a good spot for a meal with friends or a date, and also great for a group ordering a variety of dishes to share.

## What the panda-themed dining room is like

There were panda-themed props and decor scattered everywhere, giving the place a cute vibe that matched its name. Overall it felt like an easygoing place to eat, with plenty of tables to sit comfortably. The interior actually reminded me of the Bao family from Panda World at Everland. They even had Kung Fu Panda playing on a screen, so the concept was clearly committed.

## Panda Dim Sum menu and what we ordered

That day we ordered xiaolongbao, flying fish roe shumai, half a Peking duck, and a braised pork rice bowl.

### Flying fish roe shumai

First up was the flying fish roe shumai. The little roe pearls popping on top of the shumai looked appetizing right away. Taking a bite, the shumai's usual light, savory flavor was boosted by the added texture of the roe. It had a different feel from the xiaolongbao, so ordering both together meant we never got tired of either.

### Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings)

The xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) were packed with broth inside their thin wrappers, so I had to be careful even just picking them up with chopsticks. Lifting one slightly, I could see the broth sloshing inside. Eating it straight away would have been too hot, so I let it cool a bit first — the wrapper was chewy, and the warm broth and meat filling inside were delicious.

Biting in released the broth along with the meat filling, which made the flavor really come through. I think xiaolongbao are best enjoyed by eating the broth right along with the filling.

## Half a Peking duck, wrapped in thin pancakes

The dish I was most looking forward to that day was the Peking duck. We ordered half a duck, and the portion turned out to be quite generous, which was satisfying. The duck skin was roasted crispy, with tender duck meat attached underneath. The crunch of the skin alongside the softness of the meat made for a great combination.

We didn't just eat the duck on its own — we wrapped it in the thin pancakes served alongside. You place the duck skin and meat on the pancake, add cucumber and scallion, drizzle on the sauce, then roll it up. Making a wrap myself, the pancake was soft, the duck skin crispy, the meat moist, and the cucumber and scallion added a nice crunch — the combination worked really well together.

Adding the sauce on top brought out the duck's flavor even more. It was so much tastier wrapped up with all these ingredients than eating the duck meat plain. Once I started making wraps, I couldn't stop reaching for more. I'd gone in planning to just have dim sum, but ended up eating Peking duck too, and I was glad I ordered a variety of dishes.

## How the crispy duck skin tastes dipped in sugar

The duck skin and meat came out together, and the crispy-roasted skin especially caught my eye. But the tastiest way to eat the Peking duck turned out to be something else entirely.

I picked up just the crispy duck skin and lightly dipped it in sugar, and it was genuinely delicious. The crunchy skin combined with the sweetness of the sugar made for something both savory and sweet that I kept reaching for. Usually I only think of wrapping Peking duck in pancakes, but dipping the skin itself in sugar was a whole different flavor. Personally, of everything we ate that day, this combination stuck with me the most.

## Dongpo pork rice bowl as the main dish

We also tried the braised pork rice bowl, ordered as the main dish. Big chunks of braised pork came out over rice, looking filling just by sight. The tender pork paired well with the rice, and the meat's flavor came through richly.

Eating it with rice gave a different, more filling feeling than the dim sum or Peking duck. The sauce naturally soaked into the rice, making every bite good. If you like meat, this is a solid choice for a main dish.

## Is Panda Dim Sum worth a visit?

We ordered whatever we felt like eating that day at Panda Dim Sum, and every single dish was good, which was satisfying. The Peking duck stuck with me the most. The skin was roasted crispy, and dipping just that in sugar was sweet and savory in a really delicious way. It was a combination I'd never tried before, and it worked far better than I expected.

Wrapping the duck skin, meat, cucumber, and scallion in a pancake with sauce gave a completely different flavor again. Once I started making wraps, I couldn't stop. The xiaolongbao had broth packed inside that made for careful, satisfying eating, and the flying fish roe shumai had a nice pop of texture from the roe. On top of all that, the braised pork rice bowl left us truly full.

I went in planning to eat dim sum lightly, but ended up having a full meal from Peking duck to braised pork rice bowl — and I'm glad we ordered a variety instead. This seems like a great place to visit with a group and order a bunch of dishes to share.
