## In short

Daepae Maket Busan Daeyeon Branch is a pork barbecue restaurant in Nam-gu, Busan. On a Friday night, I tried freshly sliced Jeju thin-sliced pork belly, chewy five-layer pork belly, grilled cheese, cheese fried rice, and the kids’ zone. Verdict: a great late-night stop when you want to alternate thin pork and chewy pork belly.

On Friday night, my wife suggested we have a late-night bite. While looking up what to eat, I found this thin-sliced pork belly place using Jeju pork, where they slice it right away with a meat slicer when you order. The look was unusual, so I got curious and headed out haha.

## Getting there from Daeyeon Station and parking

It’s within walking distance of Daeyeon Station. You can’t park directly in front of the restaurant, but you get one hour free at a nearby designated parking lot. It’s a two-minute walk away, so driving over wasn’t much of a hassle either.

## A spacious restaurant and the basic fish cake soup

The first thing you notice when you walk in: the space is much bigger than expected. The tables are nicely spaced out and the ventilation is good, so it didn’t feel stuffy even though it’s a pork barbecue place. That actually matters quite a bit at barbecue restaurants haha.

Once you sit down, they bring water, a wide grill, and fish cake soup in a kettle first. A sip of warm fish cake broth before the meat arrives is such a nice start haha.

## The must-grab combinations from the self-service bar

The self-service bar here was seriously well stocked. It wasn’t just a few ssam vegetables for wrapping meat.

There were ssam vegetables, pickled radish wraps, salted octopus, perilla leaves, seasoned bean sprouts, kimchi, ssamjang, curry powder, garlic scapes, mushrooms, and vegetables to grill right alongside the meat—so much variety.

![Varied ingredients at the self-service bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/daeyeon-late-night-pork-market/daeyeon-late-night-pork-market-04-cep4g-966.webp)

Two self-service bar tips. First, definitely bring back the sundae (Korean blood sausage) and ham. Grilled, they’re ridiculously good.

Second, grill the bean sprouts and kimchi with the meat. Bean sprouts cooked in pork fat have that crunchy texture meeting the rich meat fat—a total rice killer haha.

## Jeju thin-sliced pork belly cut to order

- Jeju thin-sliced pork belly + grilled cheese set (slightly thicker cut)
- One serving of chestnut thin-sliced chewy five-layer pork belly
- Self-service cheese fried rice

A minimum order of 500 g is required. Since it’s a set, the cheese is taken care of all at once too.

When I ordered the Jeju thin-sliced pork belly, I could immediately hear the meat slicer running. The meat came out shortly afterward, and it looked fresh even at a glance.

With meat that has been frozen and thawed repeatedly, you can see fat congealed white on the surface. There was almost none of that here. That’s the natural result of slicing it to order, of course.

The second it hits the grill, it starts sizzling. Because it’s thin, it cooks fast, and the savory smell that rises as it browns already makes you feel halfway fed haha.

There’s one important point: don’t cook it until it’s too crisp. It’s thin meat, so it burns quickly. Brown it just enough to keep the texture juicy. Flip it often as you grill and eat.

I tried a piece, and it had almost none of the off smell or fishy taste you sometimes get with thin-sliced pork belly. The more you chew, the more savory it gets, and I couldn’t stop.

Wrapped in ssam, the umami doubles; with scallion salad, gosari (seasoned bracken fern), and pickled chilies, the savory flavor really comes alive. It was fun choosing combinations to suit my taste haha.

## Grilled cheese and chestnut thin-sliced chewy five-layer pork belly

The grilled cheese included in the set—I initially thought it would just be cheese, but it was different.

Put it on one side of the grill and brown both sides, and the outside turns slightly crisp while the inside becomes soft and chewy. It’s salty and savory on its own, but a piece of cheese between bites of meat, then a bite of meat after cheese. Such a perfect pairing!!

![Cheese and meat combination](https://img.superchart.com/images/daeyeon-late-night-pork-market/daeyeon-late-night-pork-market-19-11kg1-966.webp)

I also ordered the chestnut thin-sliced chewy five-layer pork belly. While the thin-sliced pork is soft and delicate, this one has a moderate richness, and its savory flavor builds as you chew, with a pleasantly firm, chewy texture.

You get lean meat and fat together, followed by that chewy finish. It’s the kind of meat that’s fun to chew. It had almost no off smell, and personally, I preferred this one haha. Alternating thin-sliced pork with a bite of five-layer pork belly meant there was no time to get tired of it. There’s a reason to order both cuts.

## Cheese fried rice cooked in pork fat

Once we had cleared a fair amount of meat, we went for fried rice. They stir-fry rice and cheese in the pork fat left on the grill.

![Cheese fried rice in pork fat](https://img.superchart.com/images/daeyeon-late-night-pork-market/daeyeon-late-night-pork-market-21-1gs0t-966.webp)

As the cheese melts, it brings the fat and rice together, and its savory yet clean taste is perfect for finishing the meal. I would have been disappointed if I’d left without having this fried rice haha. Fried rice at a barbecue restaurant is always the right answer.

## Kids’ zone and free soft-serve ice cream

If you’re looking for a restaurant with a play area in Busan, keep this place in mind. There’s a separate kids’ zone on one side of the restaurant. Feed the kids, let them play games in the kids’ zone, and the adults can focus comfortably on the meat. It’s perfect for a family meal with children.

![Kids’ zone amenity inside the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/daeyeon-late-night-pork-market/daeyeon-late-night-pork-market-24-ei6nb-966.webp)

They also give you soft-serve ice cream on the way out. It’s free if you eat it as you leave the restaurant. Meat for a late-night meal and ice cream too—the ending was perfect haha.

## Final thoughts on a Friday-night late meal

I went because I was curious about the look of it for a Friday-night bite, and I properly discovered a great pork belly place in Daeyeon-dong. Fresh meat sliced to order, grilled cheese dipped in curry powder, the fun chew of firm, chewy five-layer pork belly, a generous self-service bar, fish cake soup, and even an ice cream finish—nothing was missing. If you’re looking for pork belly in Daeyeon-dong, I highly recommend Daepae Maket.
