## In short

Hyangtaek Jeonpo Branch is a Korean restaurant in Jeonpo-dong, Busanjin, Busan, that began in Daegu and is known for its eggplant deonjang (soybean paste) rice bowl at 13,000 won and yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice) at 14,000 won. Two coworkers on their lunch break ordered one of each signature dish plus a side of mushroom plate to share, and drizzling kelp vinegar over the eggplant bowl halfway through suited them best. Hyangtaek Jeonpo takes no reservation app — you write your name on a list by hand — so arriving before noon made the wait easier.

My coworker and I were going back and forth on what to eat for lunch, searching on our phones together, when we landed on this place haha. The photos looked unusually neat for a Jeonpo-dong Korean restaurant, so I figured this was it.

## How much are the dishes at Hyangtaek Jeonpo?

Turns out it actually started in Daegu? So it's basically a newcomer as a Busan Jeonpo-dong Korean restaurant. Menu prices are around ₩14,000 for mackerel thistle rice and yukhoe bibimbap, and around ₩13,000 for eggplant deonjang rice, chamnamul squid rice, and herring roe bibim noodles.

Compared to other Korean restaurants nearby where lunch runs around ₩10,000, it's a bit on the pricier side, but they said the ingredients are mostly domestic, so that made it feel reasonable enough.

## Waiting, location and parking at Hyangtaek Jeonpo

My coworker was worried, like "what if there's a wait here," so I checked if they had Catch Table or TableManager — nope, none of that. It's a hand-written waitlist in front of the store, and they said it can get backed up on weekends or after noon, so we decided to just move a bit earlier. Let's leave before noon! And out of the office we went haha. (For reference, break time is 15:30–17:00, so if you're going later, just avoid that window.)

Walked straight from Seomyeon Station Exit 8 and it was right there. The address is 42-1 Seojeon-ro, 1st floor, Busanjin-gu, Busan, near Busanjin Fire Station, somewhere next to Cassina Jeonpo — wasn't hard to find at all.

There's no dedicated parking, so you'll need to use the private paid parking lot in the commercial building on your own — worth knowing before you go. I parked at the private lot in the alley right behind the restaurant.

## What the restaurant looks like inside

The moment I opened the door — oh, it's wood-toned in here. Cozy overall, and really clean-feeling too.

Customers ranged from people in their 20s all the way to their 60s, really diverse.

Even the water tasted good, that kind of place.

## Ordering both signature dishes for two

Once we sat down and opened the menu, eggplant deonjang rice and yukhoe bibimbap were clearly marked "signature menu," so it felt like we'd regret it if we didn't try them — ordered one of each.

![Table set with eggplant deonjang rice and yukhoe bibimbap](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant-09-dy47w-966.webp)

I got the eggplant deonjang rice, my coworker got the yukhoe bibimbap, and since we planned to split them, we also added a side of mixed mushroom grill.

The basic side dishes came out generously — jeotgal (salted seafood), pickled gungchae (a leafy green), even gopchang gim (crispy seaweed) — a solid spread.

The deonjang soup was mild and just right too.

### Eggplant deonjang rice bowl with kelp vinegar

My eggplant deonjang rice had the eggplant scored densely with cross-cuts, and the scallion-and-deonjang seasoning clung perfectly to the rice.

Soft but still had bite to it — cleared the whole bowl. The seaweed itself was tasty, so wrapping rice in it was honestly delicious.

Wait, what's this? There was a little side dish I hadn't noticed, so I asked — turned out to be kelp vinegar.

They said drizzling it on the eggplant bowl adds a tangy note, so I tried it halfway through — oh, why does this go so well together? (I'd recommend eating it plain first, then adding the vinegar partway through.)

### Yukhoe bibimbap piled with lettuce

My coworker's yukhoe bibimbap came with so much lettuce that at first I thought, "is this all going to mix in properly?"

![Yukhoe bibimbap piled high with lettuce](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant-17-1gl2y-966.webp)

![Yukhoe bibimbap topped with an egg yolk](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant-18-42u3g-966.webp)

But once you add the gochujang and egg yolk and mix it up, the portion turned out perfectly balanced.

There were also bean sprouts and pear inside, giving a nice mix of textures, and the yukhoe (raw beef) tasted fresh — my coworker was really happy with it.

### The mushroom plate side dish

The mushroom grill was a perfect pairing between the two bowls.

![Side dish of mixed mushroom grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant-20-17rd5-966.webp)

![A saltily grilled piece of mixed mushroom](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant-21-196bj-m-966.webp)

Eating the mild rice bowls and then popping in a salty piece of mushroom felt like a palate reset.

A great side to share between two people.

## How to eat it and the weekday review event

Partway through, I noticed a "how to enjoy it" note stuck to the table — it suggested putting rice on the gopchang gim and topping it with bibim jeotgal. Seeing that little thoughtful touch made me appreciate the care they put in.

![Sign for the weekday Naver receipt review event](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant/hyangtaek-jeonpo-lunch-bibimbap-eggplant-23-1mird-966.webp)

For reference, on weekdays only, if you write a Naver receipt review, they'll give you a free mixed mushroom grill — so if you're going on a weekday, grab that and get to eat it again for free.

Business hours are daily 11:00–20:00, but last order is 15:00 for lunch and 19:30 for dinner, so if you go too late they might not be able to take your order — worth checking the time before you head over.

This was a spot my coworker and I found on a whim while searching, and I'm glad I saved it to my list of Jeonpo-dong Korean restaurants. Next time I'll probably come back for the mackerel thistle rice or the summer-only pollack yukhoe mulhoe.
