I genuinely love going out to eat delicious things, so every weekend I diligently search for “great restaurants in Daejeon” or “great restaurants in Mannyeon-dong.” This place absolutely nailed all three: value, atmosphere, and flavor. Once seated, I took my time browsing the tablet menu. So many à la carte dishes looked delicious, but the generously packed Macheonchwi Modern Simple Set (₩18,000 per person) immediately caught my eye! It is a neat course that begins with yusanseul (stir-fried seafood and vegetables in sauce), followed by chili jumbo shrimp, Beijing sweet-and-sour pork, a choice of jajang (black bean noodles) or jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), and dessert. All that for ₩18,000 per person? Such amazing value. There was also a tidy self-service bar on one side of the restaurant, where we could help ourselves to crunchy zhacai (pickled mustard stem), neat danmuji (yellow pickled radish), and tangy cabbage pickles. The moment I picked up a generous bite with my chopsticks, a rich, nutty savory flavor spread through my mouth. Every ingredient still had its own crisp or tender texture, and the first bite really woke me up ❤️ The seasoning was not excessive, just right, so I thought it would be perfect to enjoy with parents or older family members too. Next came the chili jumbo shrimp. The batter was wonderfully chewy and crisp, while the plump shrimp inside had such a fantastic bite! A sweet, lightly spicy chili sauce clung perfectly to the shrimp, making this the sort of flavor anyone, young or old, could fall for without hesitation. The outside was thin and crisp, while the inside was chewy, with firm, generously filled pieces of meat that were so satisfying to bite into. The sauce was not overly sour, just pleasantly sweet and tangy, so I never got tired of it and kept reaching for more. The deep flavor of the black bean sauce and the refreshing, spicy kick of the jjamppong broth neatly finished the palate after all the dishes.
