## In short

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is a Chinese restaurant specialising in beef knife-cut noodles (dosakmyeon) in Pimatgol, Jongno, Seoul. A weekday lunch visit meant a short wait at the door, and the usual beef dosakmyeon came with two new additions: the tiger stir-fried rice bowl and a tangy cucumber salad. The thick, chewy noodles, the spicy rice bowl and the crisp cucumber salad matched so well that Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is worth returning to for lunch in Jongno.

I go to Jongno so often that when it's time for lunch I naturally gravitate toward places I already know. This day I was craving hot broth and chewy noodles, so I automatically headed to Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon :) It's located near Pimatgol, so I stop by fairly often whenever I have a meal in Jongno. Especially on days I'm craving beef noodles, this is the first place that comes to mind *.*

## How long is the lunchtime wait at Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon?

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon tends to get a line at the entrance during weekday lunch hours, but tables turn over quickly so you don't have to wait long. I lined up briefly this time too and was seated soon after.

> There sure were a lot of people during lunch hour

I came again for the usual lunch-hour visit, and as expected there were plenty of people there to eat. There was a wait at the entrance when I arrived, so I lined up briefly too :) Still, it wasn't as long a wait as I expected. Tables turn over fast, so thankfully I didn't have to wait long before getting in!

Jongno has a lot of office workers, so pretty much anywhere gets crowded during lunch hour — but seeing a wait like this, I get why so many people pick this as their lunch spot..haha

## Inside the Pimatgol Chinese restaurant: first and second floor seating

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon has seating split across the 1st and 2nd floors, so the space is roomier than you'd expect. Beyond dosakmyeon, they also serve dim sum and rice bowls, making it a good pick for sharing when there's a group.

Here are the 1st and 2nd floors of the Jongno Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon location. The space was roomier than I expected, and the atmosphere was lively with lunch guests. Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon sells not just dosakmyeon but also dim sum, rice bowls and various other Chinese dishes, so if you visit with a group, it's great fun to order a bunch and share haha. Honestly, ever since my first visit I've enjoyed trying different menu items here. So this time too, when I was looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Jongno, I naturally ended up picking this place *.*

I ordered beef dosakmyeon like I always do! I usually make sure to get dim sum too, but this time I decided to challenge myself and try the tiger stir-fry rice bowl and tangy cucumber salad instead *.*

The basic side dishes came out quickly first :)

## Beef dosakmyeon with the tiger stir-fried rice bowl: how did they pair?

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon's beef dosakmyeon and tiger stir-fry rice bowl came out quickly after ordering. Alternating between the spicy tiger stir-fry rice bowl and the noodles in broth kept the flavors from overlapping, and it really woke up my appetite.

The tiger stir-fry rice bowl wasn't my usual combo, so I was curious how it would feel — but it turned out to go together surprisingly well ?!?!

The tiger rice bowl is spicy and pairs well with rice, so alternating it with the beef dosakmyeon really woke up my appetite. Eating a spoonful of the spicy bowl between bites of the hot broth and chewy noodles was great, since the two dishes didn't overlap in flavor *.*

### How dosakmyeon knife-cut noodles differ from regular noodles

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon's beef dosakmyeon (knife-cut noodles) features beef in a rich broth, with the thick, chewy texture unique to dosakmyeon, made by shaving the dough with a knife. Unlike regular noodles with a uniform thickness, it definitely had more chew to enjoy.

And of course, beef dosakmyeon is a choice I never regret +_+ Beef in a rich broth, and above all, that thick, chewy texture unique to dosakmyeon that regular noodles just don't have — that's the appeal haha.

![Beef dosakmyeon broth topped with beef](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-pimatgol-lunch-beef-noodle-cucumber/jongno-pimatgol-lunch-beef-noodle-cucumber-13-5voyg-900.webp)

![Lifting up the thick, chewy dosakmyeon noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-pimatgol-lunch-beef-noodle-cucumber/jongno-pimatgol-lunch-beef-noodle-cucumber-14-15p7e-1200.webp)

Dosakmyeon is made by shaving the dough with a knife, so the shape and thickness of the noodles differ a bit from regular noodles, giving a distinct texture. There's definitely more fun in chewing each bite :) Slurping up the chewy noodles in hot broth, a whole bowl disappears fast haha. That's why, when I think of beef noodles in Jongno, this is the first place that comes to mind for me *.*

### Why the tangy cucumber salad was the smart extra order

The tangy cucumber salad worked to cut through the richness of the beef dosakmyeon and tiger stir-fry rice bowl. Crisp and tangy, it felt like it cleaned up the palate in between bites.

Eating the cucumber salad alongside added a crisp, tangy note, and it nicely cut through the slight richness of the beef noodles and tiger stir-fry rice bowl, resetting my palate in between bites!

The cucumber salad was seriously, unexpectedly delicious — a smart order in hindsight +_+

## Why Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is worth a return trip for Jongno lunch

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is a place that crosses my mind every time I'm in Jongno. Especially on days I'm craving beef noodles, my feet just naturally head this way instead of debating other options..haha. It gets crowded enough to form a line during lunch hour, but since tables turn over fast, I didn't have to wait as long as expected. I'd recommend it to anyone in Jongno — with all its office workers — looking for a solid, filling meal :)
