If you're taking public transit, Cafe Dongi Suseong 1-ga Branch is the first building of the Lotte Castle The First commercial complex, right after you cross Daebong Bridge from Exit 4 of Daebong-gyo Station (Line 3). There's an iCOOP Natural Dream mart right next door. It's a 5-minute walk. It's also easy to reach from Suseong Market, Daebong-dong, and Daegu Bank Station.

## Inside Cafe Dongi: seating and is solo dining easy?

The restaurant wasn't huge, but it had a clean, tidy atmosphere. I saw seats for solo diners too, though most tables sat four. Disposable aprons, high chairs, and even hair ties were on hand.

There was a framed company motto on the wall: "We share happiness with our neighbors through a more valuable meal." It really reflected the owner's mindset. 👍👍

Cafe Dongi says it insists on two things for its customers.

- ✅Use only good ingredients, even for something as simple as rice. So that customers feel happy with even one spoonful, they use only top-grade rice — first-grade Gimpo geumssal rice from the clean DMZ area, sourced directly to keep it as fresh as possible.
- ✅All sauces and food are made in-house. They believe every sauce, no matter how small, deserves care, so all dishes including side dishes and sauces are homemade — including every component of their signature black pork rib sweet and sour pork.

We tried both the soft- and hard-fried eggs. Great as a palate cleanser.

## Summer special: yeolmu bibimbap for 7,900 won

First up was the yeolmu bibimbap (radish green rice bowl, ₩7,900).

The yeolmu bibimbap is a summer-only item that's also discounted right now. It came with soup and 3 side dishes — perfect for when you have no appetite in summer.

## Grandma-style stir-fried baby octopus set meal, 16,900 won

Next came the grandma-style octopus stir-fry set (₩16,900). It came with stir-fried octopus, traditional homemade doenjang (soybean paste) stew, and omija (schisandra berry) tea.

Made just like a grandmother's warm recipe from the countryside, the plump octopus stir-fried in spicy sauce had that great smoky char and just the right level of heat — delicious.

## Dongi fire-grilled spicy pork set meal, 12,900 won (on promotion)

The Dongi fire-grilled pork bulgogi set (₩12,900) also arrived. It's normally ₩15,900, but it's currently discounted.

It came with pork bulgogi, traditional homemade doenjang stew, and omija tea. Cooked fast at 300 degrees, the vegetables stayed crisp and the meat's juices stayed locked in — with a subtle smokiness and that sweet-and-spicy flavor that never fails. Truly Cafe Dongi's signature dish.

## Dongi yeast-aged sweet and sour pork for three, 23,900 won

The Dongi yeast-fermented sweet and sour pork for 3 (₩23,900) is fermented with traditional rice yeast, so it's rich in probiotics and amino acids — and no gluten! No flour is used at all. Fried fresh using clean oil managed daily with acid-value checks, it was crispy outside and moist inside — delicious.
