With the weather getting hot lately, I figured it'd be nice to take the baby somewhere indoors, so we stopped by Lotte Department Store Nowon for a bit of shopping. After wandering around browsing for a while, my stomach started growling loudly. I was craving something hearty yet clean — a comforting Korean meal — so naturally I headed up to the 9th floor food court.

Step off the escalator on the 9th floor and it's right there next to you — super accessible. That's today's review subject: Hantiok.

I've always liked neat, well-composed Korean food, and I heard they had a hearty set menu where you could enjoy bossam and noodles together, so I went without a second thought.

Even from outside, looking through the glass, the interior looked really pleasant and spacious. It had that clean, upscale Korean-restaurant feel, which seemed great for families too.

In front of the store stood a sign telling Hantiok's brand story. It said the restaurant has specialized in soup and meat dishes across three generations since the 1970s — you could feel the depth of experience and pride behind the food. I liked the thoughtful mindset mentioned too, that even solo diners are looked after like family.

## Atmosphere and the wait

Inside, the hall was spacious with generous spacing between tables — great for bringing parents along or just having a quiet meal. The lighting felt cozy overall and the interior was tidy, a real Nowon Lotte Department Store favorite. There's enough foot traffic that a wait forms during meal hours. Definitely the kind of Nowon Lotte Department Store restaurant where peak times mean a line.

Near the entrance, there was a nicely arranged outdoor menu board along with realistic-looking food models.

It was really convenient that you could decide what to order before even stepping inside. The menu ranges from single dishes to hearty full sets, with plenty of options.

## Bossam set for two, one andong guksu and one gukbap

My husband, Ppodo, is a total bossam lover, so there was no debate — we ordered the bossam set for two.

The bossam set comes with salad, bossam, one dumpling, and two pieces of tofu as the base, plus your choice of gukbap or andong guksu for the meal course. The best part of the bossam set is getting to try a variety of Korean dishes in one sitting. To taste everything, we each chose a different meal course — one andong guksu, one gukbap.

After a short wait, a neatly arranged bossam set spread was set down on the table. With so many side dishes plus the main dishes added in, the table was practically full — you can see it in the photos, haha.

### The banchan spread

The side dishes included crunchy seasoned bean sprouts, fragrant pickled perilla leaves, a fresh salad, and clean-tasting kimchi, all neatly plated, along with fresh lettuce leaves for wrapping the bossam. Every single banchan was mild and well-seasoned — good both as a side with rice and as an appetite starter before the meal. Overall, the balance and seasoning of the side dishes were excellent.

### Tofu and dumplings

Time to dig into the actual dishes. We started with the tofu and dumplings included in the set.

The thick tofu had a clean, nutty flavor that spread right through as soon as I bit into it — really tasty. The dumplings felt heavy when I picked them up with chopsticks, packed generously with filling. One bite revealed the texture of both meat and vegetables still intact — pretty delicious. The dumpling flavor overall was fairly standard, but as a side to the set it was excellent.

### The main bossam and radish kimchi

And now the star of the show — bossam! The meat was sliced thick, as if just off the cutting board, with a really satisfying chew. My husband is such a bossam fanatic that I happily gave up all the meat to him, but the radish kimchi served alongside was so refreshingly good that I think I ate all of that myself.

Placing a thick slice of meat on a fresh lettuce leaf and piling on plenty of the spicy, cool radish kimchi before wrapping it up — the combination was just so good.

### What does andong guksu taste like?

The andong guksu I chose for my meal course was my first time trying it — a noodle dish with a rich meat-based broth. Noodle soups made with meat stock can usually get tiresome or greasy after a while, but this was nothing like that — impressively clean and light.

The noodles had a great chewy texture, and there was plenty of meat and zucchini garnish on top. Most of all, the seasoning had zero greasiness, so I scraped the broth and noodles clean without leaving a drop. The amount of meat was just right too.

### Gukbap

The other meal course option, gukbap, also had excellent flavor balance — one spoonful of the broth and the seasoning was so good, a distinctive savory depth lingered in my mouth.

Eaten together with rice, it paired together perfectly.

## Final thoughts

Overall, the seasoning on every single dish was exactly my style, and the combination of hearty meat, light tofu, dumplings, plus the noodles and gukbap all worked together really well — a genuinely satisfying meal. If you want to enjoy gentle, clean, well-made Korean food in a pleasant space, I'd sincerely recommend Hantiok, a Nowon Lotte Department Store favorite.
