## In short

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch (온정경양식당 산본학원가점) is an old-school pork cutlet restaurant in the Sanbon academy district of Gunpo, Gyeonggi. A couple ordered one udon set and one cold soba set, both in the basic flavor, then traded bites of the hot udon and the chilled soba, with the creamy soup the standout of the meal. Cup sterilizers and a Coway water purifier made Onjeong feel clean and easy to recommend for two.

## What kind of restaurant is Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang in Sanbon?

Old-school pork cutlet, plus udon and cold soba!

Picking a lunch spot can be surprisingly stressful. I didn't want anything too heavy, but I didn't want to settle for something boring either. This time we had a great meal at Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch, a pork cutlet spot we hadn't visited in a while.

The name has a nostalgic ring to it, but the restaurant itself is clean, bright and modern with a wood-tone interior — I liked that. It's located in Sanbon's academy district, so a lot of students and parents seem to come by, and it's also an easy walk from the nearby apartment complexes, making it a good neighborhood spot for a meal.

What I liked most was how solid the menu was, with plenty of pork cutlet varieties to choose from. Instead of just eating pork cutlet on its own, you can pair it with udon or cold soba as a set, so my husband and I each ordered something different. I went with the udon set in the basic flavor, and he chose the cold soba set, also basic.

## Onjeong's location, hours and parking in Gunpo

- Address: 5-11 Sanbon-ro 386beon-gil, 1F Unit 103, Samdae Building, Gunpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
- Hours: 11:00–21:00, last order 20:00
- Parking: No on-site parking; use nearby public lots
- Amenities: Takeout, delivery, reservations, Wi-Fi, high chairs

There's no dedicated parking, so if you're driving, it's easiest to use the public lots nearby. Since it's in an academy district with lots of apartments around, honestly I think just walking over is the most convenient option.

## Udon set vs. cold soba set: which to order

![A bowl of cream-colored gyeongyangsik soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/sanbon-donkatsu-udon-soba-set-couple/sanbon-donkatsu-udon-soba-set-couple-07-1o2jd-900.webp)

Gyeongyangsik pork cutlet always brings the warm soup to mind first, right? Smooth soup you sprinkle with a little pepper~~ It looked so rich and appetizing I ended up just eating it plain, no pepper, and it was seriously delicious so I finished it right away. It seemed to have button mushrooms in it, kind of like a béchamel sauce, thick and tasty. The color was more cream than yellow, and it felt fancy, so I scraped the white bowl clean lol. Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch is a pork cutlet spot, but starting off with such a fancy soup got me even more excited for the cutlet. I ordered the udon set in the basic flavor, and there were quite a lot of ingredients in the udon. Warm broth with fried tofu, tempura flakes and green onion — since I love udon, I really enjoyed it. Taking a bite of cutlet then a spoonful of udon broth, that combo was great.

My husband loves cold soba, and since fall is starting, he figured this would be the last summer food of the year and ordered it. Cool soba noodles with a little wasabi mixed in tasted clean and refreshing. The wasabi came individually packaged too, which felt hygienic. It reminded him of soba he'd had in Japan — he loves Japanese food, so picking cold soba to end a hot day was spot on.

And now, today's main character: the pork cutlet. True to Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch's reputation as a pork cutlet spot, it came out big, in classic gyeongyangsik style. The crispy fried cutlet was topped generously with sauce, and served with rice, salad and corn kernels on the same plate, so it looked really hearty.

The cutlet was so savory that I kept going back and forth — a bite of udon, then a bite of cutlet, a bite of cold soba, then another bite of cutlet. There was never a dull moment for my mouth. The temperature contrast between the hot udon and the cold soba was fun too.

## Basic flavor or spicy at Onjeong?

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch is a pork cutlet spot that goes for familiar, comforting gyeongyangsik-style pork cutlet rather than today's flashy trendy menus, and I liked that you could pair it with udon or cold soba.

In particular, being able to enjoy the udon hot and the cold soba cool was great now that the seasons are shifting. Instead of eating just cutlet on its own, alternating with the side dishes meant I never got tired of it, right to the last bite. Once, when I had pork cutlet for lunch with a friend, we dared to order the spicy version and, being weak against spice, couldn't finish it and had to leave some behind. This time we played it safe with the basic flavor and cleared our plates. If you like spicy food and can handle it, definitely try the other cutlets. If you're bringing kids, the cheese pork cutlet is a good pick too. I went full original basic cutlet today, and honestly, that's the one for my taste~~ lol.

## Onjeong's self-serve bar and cleanliness

The cabbage salad, pickled radish and diced radish kimchi are all set up neatly at the self-serve bar so you can add as much as you want, which is great! You know how it is~~ everyone loves cabbage salad at pork cutlet places, and with prices these days, there's that awkward truth that asking for a refill doesn't always work out.

The water is from a Coway purifier. That's seriously great! Pouring it ourselves straight from a purifier feels so much cleaner than water served from a bottle!

This is a great piece of equipment! A sterilizer? Inside, the glass cups were sitting so neatly and prettily lined up~~ I was genuinely surprised. Do many restaurants use equipment like this?? Huge respect for the owner's mindset~~!!!

Ordering is done comfortably through a kiosk~~~~ There are high chairs, which is great, and white aprons are provided so you don't have to worry about splashes on nice clothes!

I always check the country of origin labels when I go to a restaurant, and as shown above, everything here is domestic.

The udon looked even more mouthwatering, it's a shame I didn't take a video.

## Two people at Onjeong? Order both sets

If you're looking for a good pork cutlet spot in Sanbon, Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch is a great choice, and above all, it's clean and tidy, which I really appreciated~~ Ordering the udon set and the cold soba set separately like we did this time and sharing let us try a variety of flavors. Going as a pair solves the menu-picking dilemma and lets you each taste something different.

Now that fall is here, my appetite is kicking in — I'm craving pork cutlet and warm udon, but honestly, that creamy soup is what makes this a real find. I like to think I can cook a bit myself, and soup seems simple but it's actually surprisingly hard to make well and delicious. I want to come back again when I'm craving soup this fall and winter.
