After a trip to Gyeongju, it felt like a shame to leave without picking up a dessert to share with family. Hwangnidan-gil has plenty of street food and Gyeongju's signature desserts, but this time I wanted something a bit more special and genuinely tasty rather than the usual stuff, so I stopped by Gyeongju Tokyo Pie. It's good to enjoy right there on Hwangnidan-gil, and the packaging is clean enough that it also works well as a Gyeongju souvenir or gift.

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie sits in a convenient spot for a stop while wandering Hwangnidan-gil. It's a good place to enjoy dessert or pick up a souvenir during a Gyeongju trip.

There was even an apple box sitting out front. I got curious hearing that the crispy pies are actually filled with real apple, not apple jam.

Buying a single pie is great, but the gift sets really caught my eye. This time I went with the premium gift set.

The set was made up of 4 apple pies (Gyeongju Tokyo Pie) and 2 Tokyo Red Bean Pies, 6 pieces total. You can choose which pies go into the gift set based on your taste, picking between red bean and chocolat. Since I usually love red bean paste, I picked the Tokyo Red Bean Pie without hesitation.

## Gyeongju Tokyo Pie's apple pie: a whole real apple inside

The bakery's signature apple pie has real apple inside, not apple jam. Each pie comes individually packed in the box, which made it easy to grab one at a time and enjoy with coffee or tea. Cutting one in half, the filling looked generous too. I started with the apple pie, the shop's flagship item.

The crisp, savory pie shell held sweet apple inside, and unlike a typical apple pie, what stood out was that it's real apple rather than apple jam. Maybe because of that, the flavor wasn't overly sweet, and I could really taste the apple's natural tartness, which I liked.

### How does the Tokyo red bean (anko) pie taste?

The Tokyo Red Bean Pie I picked exceeded my expectations too. The sweet red bean paste inside wasn't just sweet — it was mellow and nutty, and not overly sweet, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy.

Maybe because I love red bean paste, I personally preferred the Tokyo Red Bean Pie, but my husband said the apple pie (Gyeongju Tokyo Pie) was tastier. It probably comes down to personal taste, but one thing's for sure — both are delicious, haha. What I liked most was that neither pie was overly sweet. Desserts that are too sweet can get tiring after a few bites, but Gyeongju Tokyo Pie's sweetness wasn't overpowering, and the pie's savoriness blended well with the filling, so I kept reaching for more.

The apple pie was refreshing, and the red bean pie was mellow and nutty, so each had its own distinct appeal. Having both together kept things from feeling one-note, which made it great for sharing with family.

> 💡 The leftover pies stayed refrigerated, and reheating them briefly in an air fryer made them even crispier.

## Is the Gyeongju Tokyo Pie set a good souvenir or gift?

As a Gyeongju souvenir dessert, the Gyeongju Tokyo Pie premium gift set was a solid choice. Traveling around Hwangnidan-gil, you end up buying food or souvenirs, and plenty of people are looking for a dessert that's actually delicious to eat after the trip rather than the usual Gyeongju bread or barley bread. From that angle, Gyeongju Tokyo Pie was a good option.

*Gyeongju Tokyo Pie made a solid Gyeongju souvenir dessert*

The premium gift set I chose had cleaner packaging than picking individual pies, which made it nicer for gifting, and I liked being able to customize the mix with red bean or chocolat pie to taste. Most of all, having tried it myself, the pies weren't too sweet and were easy to enjoy, which made me think they'd work well as a gift too.

If you're looking for a Gyeongju gift that's easy to hand off to family or friends, it's worth stopping by Gyeongju Tokyo Pie. It's a good place to visit during a trip — you can enjoy dessert while exploring Hwangnidan-gil and pick up a Gyeongju souvenir to take home at the same time.
