My husband had some business near Hyochang Park, so we timed dinner around when he got off work! Today I'm bringing you the story of the Hyochang Park restaurant we visited that day, Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch 🐷

These days there are so many places specializing in thick, crispy Japanese-style tonkatsu, but sometimes you just crave the old-style Western-style pork cutlet piled with sauce! That's exactly what I was in the mood for that day, and Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang matched the style I had in mind, haha. Along with the pork cutlet, they had plenty of side dishes like udon and soba, so my husband and I ordered a bunch and ate a hearty meal ❤️

The restaurant is on the first floor of the building, so it wasn't hard to find, and the orange exterior color caught my eye right away. Especially with '100% handmade pork cutlet specialist' written in big letters, I was already excited before even going in, haha 💕🐷

## Kiosk ordering and the one-menu-per-person rule

At Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang's Yongsan branch, ordering is done through a kiosk, and one menu item per person is required, except for young children. After ordering, you can help yourself to warm rice and side dishes, so you can eat as much as you want—that's a plus!

## Menu and prices at Onjeong

The menu at this Hyochang Park pork cutlet restaurant, Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, was more varied than I expected, ranging from classic pork cutlet to spicy pork cutlet, cheddar cheese pork cutlet, and curry pork cutlet.

There were also set menus letting you enjoy pork cutlet with noodles together—udon & pork cutlet ran ₩14,500–15,000 depending on the combination, and soba & pork cutlet was also ₩14,500–15,000.

We chose the set menus to share. Once the table was fully laid out, the portions were more generous than expected, so we ate until properly full! We ordered the udon and cheddar cheese pork cutlet set, plus one soba and classic pork cutlet set!

### A steam-injection fryer for cleaner frying oil

On one side of the restaurant, there was a detailed explanation of how Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang's pork cutlets are made! They only use thick-cut meat prepared that same day, and they say they manage the frying oil fresh every single day. In particular, instead of a regular frying method, they use a steam-injection fryer to keep frying residue from lingering in the oil for too long.

That's the point—keeping the oil cleaner while preserving the crispy texture and savory flavor unique to pork cutlet 🐷✨ Since pork cutlet is inevitably fried, the state of the oil matters more than you'd think, and seeing firsthand that they pay attention from the meat to the frying method made me even more excited, haha ❤️

## What's on the self-serve bar?

Above all, being able to get more rice and side dishes yourself meant we didn't have to worry about running short, so it was great for eating a hearty meal. Salad, diced radish kimchi, and pickled radish were also available, good for pairing with the cutlet between bites.

## The sets: cheddar cheese cutlet and classic pork cutlet

What especially caught my eye was the cheddar cheese pork cutlet. On top of the crispy fried cutlet, orange cheddar cheese sauce was poured on with no restraint. So much sauce the cutlet was almost invisible!! Haha. It came with rice, cabbage salad, corn kernels, and a dinner roll, exactly the nostalgic old-style pork cutlet setup I had in mind.

The classic pork cutlet also had plenty of sauce on top, making it moist and easy to eat, and it came with a warm cream soup to enjoy beforehand, which really made me feel like I was at an old-fashioned Western-style restaurant.

## Green tangerine cold soba

Also, eating only pork cutlet can get a bit heavy, so pairing it with a noodle dish was a good move. The cold soba had buckwheat noodles in a refreshing broth, topped with seaweed flakes and green onion, with a slice of green tangerine right in the center, making it look bright and refreshing from the start 🍊. Taking a cool bite of soba between bites of pork cutlet worked really well together.

The fried tofu fish cake udon had generous amounts of fried tofu and fish cake in it! It seemed like a good choice for a day you need a warm broth, or to share alongside the pork cutlet.
