On the way home from our trip, we decided to stop somewhere quiet and have a meal together as a family. We'd already eaten pretty well during the vacation, but I wanted the last meal to be one we'd remember.

So we tried Jowatso. It's known for being great value and for its unlimited refills of hangover soup. Honestly, it holds up against any restaurant you'd put it up against, so I wrote up this review.

Jowatso is located right near the Janghowon Public Sports Center. It's not hard to find — just follow the main road.

Jowatso sits in a quiet neighborhood. The bright red sign makes it easy to spot.

You can park anywhere in front of the restaurant.

This area seems to double as a waiting room. There's a coffee machine next to it too, which is nice to use while you wait.

## The weekday 1pm atmosphere and self-serve bar

We visited on a weekday at 1pm. Quite a few customers had already left, but turnover was good and people kept coming in — mostly guests who looked to be in their 60s or older.

There were a bunch of portable fans set out in front of the restaurant, meant for anyone who gets hot to grab and use. Pretty thoughtful, right?

Besides that, the self-serve bar was also well stocked.

Everything was neatly organized, and the vegetables looked clean and fresh.

There was also a women's restroom inside the restaurant, in case that matters to you.

## The menu and the price of the signature sohanmari

Looking at the menu, it's more solid than you'd expect — the sohanmari (one cow) platter is 850g for ₩89,000. Not bad, right? Plus it includes special cuts, which made it seem like it'd be even tastier. Since there were four of us, we went with the signature set!

## Jowatso's beef was tender enough for my parents to chew comfortably

Right after ordering, a half-plate of side dishes came out. Interestingly, they even provided sushi-style rice as a side.

Along with that came various sauces, pickled peppers, pickled perilla leaves, kimchi, and more.

And then the star of the day arrived — the signature sohanmari platter. The variety of cuts was really impressive. The meat looked fresh at a glance, and I couldn't wait to dig in. Udaegalbi + bonkkotsal + galbisal + buchaesal + rapeseed honey special marinated grill.

So we decided to start by grilling the udaegalbi and galbisal first.

The fire was milder than expected, so the trick was to load up a lot of meat at once and keep refilling quickly as you eat.

As soon as pieces were grilled, we gave them to my parents first. They don't eat meat much these days, but they really dug in — turns out the meat itself was tender enough to be easy to chew.

Tasting it myself, it wasn't just tender — the juiciness was well balanced too, making it light and easy to eat. Paired with the Korean side dishes, it turned into a really luxurious Korean meal. Every cut, no matter which one, was soft and easy to chew.

### Unlimited beef hangover soup

Here's the hangover soup that came as a side.

The soup was spicy and its broth was outstanding — so good we refilled it once more. Honestly, they could run a whole restaurant on just this soup. I'd planned to order doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), but the lingering savory taste of the hangover soup made me order it again instead.

### The order for grilling bonkkotsal and the rapeseed honey marinated grill

They kept grilling the rest of the cuts for us. As I mentioned, the charcoal was mild, so if you don't grill quickly, you'll just end up watching the meat cook — keep loading it up nonstop, that's the key.

The tastiest cut was definitely the bonkkotsal. With such flashy marbling, the flavor was both rich and clean at the same time. The sweetness of the meat made it hard to stop at just one piece.

The last thing we grilled was the rapeseed honey marinated grill. Since it's marinated, it's better to grill it last.

The marinade flavor wasn't a typical one — it had a slightly unusual but appealing character. It's closer to a soy-based marinade, so ordering rice as a side to balance it out is a good idea.

On the way out, you can even take home some ground beef. Not many barbecue restaurants offer that, right? Unfortunately, since we were traveling, we couldn't take any home this time — we just told ourselves we'd come back for it next time.

## An Icheon beef restaurant I'd love to visit again with my parents

This was a beef restaurant that my parents, who have weak teeth, especially enjoyed eating at. Every single cut, no matter which one, was soft and easy to chew. If you're traveling through or live nearby, definitely bring your parents here for a visit.
