## In short

Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese-style beef cutlet) restaurant in the basement of Avenue France mall in Gwanggyo, Suwon. Tenderloin and sirloin gyukatsu were each ordered, grilled 15 seconds on a tabletop hearth, and compared with salt, wasabi, special sauce, and melted butter. Tenderloin suits a lighter bite while sirloin brings more juiciness, making this a solid lunch or date spot once you know the entrance is by the bus terminal, not the mall's main doors.

### The outside of the restaurant

The entrance to Avenue France Gwanggyo is across from Yeonmu Middle School and Gyeonggi Provincial Office, near the Summit Place Gwanggyo bus terminal! I wandered around quite a bit trying to find it, but it's on the first floor, so instead of walking around the building, just search for the bus terminal — much faster.

## Interior atmosphere and seating

True to a proper gyukatsu place, the inside is full of that neat, cozy Japanese sensibility •• orange lamps mixed with wood-tone tables gave off a really warm feeling! There are also counter seats where you can sit side by side facing outside.

![Counter seats facing the window](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-05-1l5mh-900.webp)

Being near the Gyeonggi Provincial Office, most seats are 4-person tables suited to office workers, and the space felt really comfortable!

![Table with hearth grill in the back of the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-07-22n7v-900.webp)

![View of the restaurant from the very back seat](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-08-ccod3-900.webp)

I picked the very back table with the best hearth vibes!

## Menu lineup

![Menu board listing gyukatsu, rice bowls, and omurice](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-09-1ik2c-900.webp)

The menu is broadly split into gyukatsu, rice bowls, omurice, and single items. The signature gyukatsu comes in two kinds — tenderloin and sirloin! If you're a meat lover like me, you can also order extra meat on its own. For rice, there's steak bowl and tsukune bowl, and for omurice there's brie cheese omurice and hamburg omurice, so despite being a gyukatsu specialty spot, there were more choices than I expected! There's also a light potato curry and piping-hot udon, and for sides, deep-fried squid legs (geso karaage) and fried chicken skin (torikawa) are available. Names you don't see often, which somehow made me want to try even more ••

If you take part in the review event, you get two pieces of mini okonomiyaki on the house! Even better enjoyed alongside gyukatsu ••

![Sign for the brie cheese omurice menu item](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-11-1hwtu-900.webp)

This looked like the Japanese-style omurice you see all the time in shorts, split down the middle and topped. I'd like to try this next visit — it's served with brie cheese, which made me curious!

### How to eat gyukatsu

There are instructions for how to eat gyukatsu, so even first-timers can follow along easily. To sum it up quickly:

- 1. Sear the cut side of the meat for 15-20 seconds — for beef, aim to lightly sear just the surface rather than cooking it through!
- 2. Pair it with wasabi, salt, and the special sauce, and it's recommended to enjoy the first two pieces in their original flavor ••
- 3. Put 1/4 of the butter they give you onto the grill and cook with it.

For me, 1/4 of the butter was just right for two pieces of meat.

## The basic table setting

![Basic table setting with water, tissues, and hearth](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-13-herhd-900.webp)

![Table drawer holding utensils](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-14-wmx0l-900.webp)

Water, tissues, and a hearth are set up on each table, and extra tissues, wet wipes, and utensils are in the table drawer. If you need a grill plate change or anything else, you can just press the bell and ask staff comfortably ✔️

![Zero Coke served alongside the gyukatsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-15-1gtap-900.webp)

First off, I ordered a Zero Coke to go with the gyukatsu — coke with meat is essential 🧊

## Tenderloin gyukatsu vs sirloin gyukatsu: the taste difference

![Table set with both tenderloin and sirloin gyukatsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-16-16jne-900.webp)

I ordered tenderloin gyukatsu for ₩24,000 and sirloin gyukatsu for ₩19,000! I wanted to feel the difference between the cuts, so my partner and I each ordered one separately 😋

![Plate of sirloin gyukatsu with a reddish cut surface](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-17-1r20d-900.webp)

First, just look at how ridiculously gorgeous the sirloin gyukatsu looks •• I hadn't had gyukatsu in ages, so the moment it arrived I was so excited 🥺

The hearth gets preheated first, and a staff member comes over to light it.

![A piece of sirloin gyukatsu placed on the hearth](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-18-xkdh9-900.webp)

Calmly, I picked up a piece of sirloin and set it gently onto the heated hearth. I cooked it quickly for 15 seconds so it wouldn't get overdone!

![Sirloin gyukatsu eaten together with rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-19-1dpmt-900.webp)

Eating it right away with rice, the juices flow and the crispy gyukatsu pairs so well ••

![Gyukatsu paired with salt and wasabi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-20-lggvw-900.webp)

I mostly ate it with salt and wasabi, and it was warm, light, and genuinely delicious •• Especially here, the wasabi isn't too strong, so I piled it on generously. The gyukatsu sauce was also salty with a savory depth — addictive, and I really liked it!

![Tenderloin gyukatsu set ordered by my partner](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-21-13zwj-900.webp)

This is the tenderloin gyukatsu my partner ordered — all the side dishes are the same, just the gyukatsu itself is tenderloin!

![Tenderloin gyukatsu showing a soft cut surface](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi/gyuendang-gwanggyo-gyukatsu-salt-wasabi-22-11gjn-900.webp)

I tried the tenderloin gyukatsu too, and that signature tenderloin softness comes rushing in •• It felt similar to the sirloin yet subtly different. If you want to enjoy gyukatsu in a slightly lighter way, tenderloin gyukatsu seemed like the better fit.

To bring out a richer flavor, I also melted a bit of butter on it! The original meaty aroma combined with the butter's scent gave it a deeper, richer flavor ••

The seasoned pickled radish, cabbage salad, and miso soup on the side were all well-balanced and paired nicely, and the portions were generous too, so we left full and satisfied — such a great date over gyukatsu •• 😋
