Gangneung has so many sights and so many good restaurants that I always end up debating where to eat whenever I travel there. This time, after looking around Ojukheon, I went searching for somewhere to have a solid meal and ended up at a place called Saimdang Bueok (사임당부엌). There's a dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so it was convenient to visit by car. The parking area looked quite spacious too — big enough not just for regular cars but even tour buses, so it seemed like a good fit for group tourists as well. When traveling around Gangneung, parking near tourist spots can be a bit of a hassle, so having a restaurant with such a large dedicated lot put my mind at ease. Rather than the overly formal, stiff feel you might expect from a hanjeongsik restaurant, it had a relaxed vibe that made it easy to enjoy the meal. What raised my expectations even more was learning that Saimdang Bueok prepares every dish by hand with care. Seeing the whole table filled with dishes was satisfying just to look at. There's a certain fun to hanjeongsik with so many dishes served at once. Its location makes it easy to come here right after touring Ojukheon, so it seemed like a good spot to fold into a travel route. Gangneung really does have a lot of attractions worth visiting near Ojukheon. There's Gyeongpodae and Gyeongpo Lake, and Arte Museum Gangneung, which a lot of people visit these days, is also nearby. Heo Gyun Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Park and Chodang Sundubu Village are also good to combine into the same route. Especially in Gangneung, when you're moving between multiple attractions, you end up needing to find somewhere to eat in between — and I liked that you can sightsee around Ojukheon and also get a solid hanjeongsik meal nearby. If you're looking for a good hanjeongsik restaurant in Gangneung, this would be worth adding to your itinerary. It came out looking wonderfully soft and cloud-like from the very first glance. I scooped up a spoonful and the texture was smooth with a deep, savory flavor. Being handmade, it felt different from the sundubu you'd usually get at a regular restaurant. Without any harsh or overpowering seasoning, the natural savoriness of the tofu itself really came through, and I kept going back for more with my spoon. Soft and cloud-like, it was even better eaten warm. I already like sundubu in general, so this particular one especially won me over. The miyeok-guk (seaweed soup) served alongside was also really delicious. The broth was rich and deep, and it went great with rice. Soups and stews are quietly important at a hanjeongsik place, so having both the sundubu and the miyeok-guk turn out this good was satisfying. Overall the dishes leaned clean and light rather than heavily seasoned, so it wasn't a burden to eat during a trip. There really is something about eating Korean food while traveling that leaves your stomach feeling settled and full haha. ## Who Gangneung hanjeongsik like this suits Between the soft, savory sundubu and the rich, tasty miyeok-guk, it really felt like eating a proper full Korean spread. While traveling, good food matters, but eating only heavily seasoned dishes over and over can get a bit much — that day, having a neat, clean hanjeongsik meal left me in a good mood even after eating. On top of that, having a spacious dedicated parking lot right in front was a big plus. Whether traveling with family or visiting in a larger group, you wouldn't have to worry much about parking, and the space seemed generous enough even for tour buses, making it a good fit for group tourists too. If you're planning to visit Ojukheon in Gangneung or looking for somewhere to eat nearby, or if you want a clean, neatly prepared hanjeongsik meal during your trip, Saimdang Bueok is worth a visit. After tasting the handmade, cloud-soft sundubu and the rich miyeok-guk, I found myself wanting to try other menu items next time.
