## In short

Gukdam Sundaeguk Main Branch is a Korean soup restaurant in Gansuk-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, serving sundaeguk (pork and blood sausage soup), suyuk (boiled pork) and hanwoo tripe hot pot. A regular sundaeguk, a large sundaeguk and a half order of suyuk came with self-serve dried radish and chive salad from the banchan bar, and the broth tasted clean rather than heavy, with plenty of sundae and meat in the bowl. With a spacious dining room and even baby dishes on hand, Gukdam Sundaeguk works well for family meals or group lunches.

The menu centers on sundaeguk, sundae, and suyuk, with sundaeguk split into regular and large sizes. ## Ordering regular and large sundaeguk with a half order of suyuk

We ordered a regular sundaeguk, a large sundaeguk, and a half order of suyuk. Nom nom good. The basic banchan were kkakdugi, crunchy green chilies, barley ssamjang, and dadaegi! It's exactly the right lineup to go with sundaeguk, so it was plenty even without extra side dishes. Salt, pepper, and perilla seeds were set on the table, so once the soup arrived we could each season it to taste.

The tissue box was just too cute, haha, so I snapped a photo.

### How was the broth and what was in the bowl?

I tried the broth plain first, without adding anything, and it was clean without any heavy or muddy taste. There was a subtle, savory depth that felt like it had been simmered for a long time, so after one spoonful I kept going back for more.

The sundae and meat were also really generous, more than I expected! The amount of filling was definitely plentiful, enough to polish off a whole bowl of rice! The sundae had a soft, chewy bite without being mushy or watery, and the meat was tender rather than dry. Stirring in a bit of dadaegi added a spicy kick to the otherwise clean broth for a different flavor. Adding perilla seeds brought out a nutty richness, and a little pepper sharpened the broth's flavor, so starting plain and adding little by little was a nice way to eat it!

There's also dried radish at the self-serve bar, and eating it together was nom nom good! Genuinely delicious.

### Half order of suyuk with house-made saeujeot (salted shrimp)

And the half order of suyuk we ordered together was satisfying too!! It looked thick but was tender and chewy rather than tough. There was almost no gamey or fishy smell, so I could comfortably enjoy the meat's clean, savory flavor, and it was even better dipped lightly in the saeujeot (salted shrimp) or ssamjang served alongside. The saeujeot is apparently made by the owner in-house!

## Where is the restroom at Gukdam Sundaeguk?

The restroom is toward the back of the restaurant, and when you go in you'll see a cute family of ducks.
