## In short

Bapkkot Hansang is a Korean restaurant on the 3rd floor of Sejongmachi in Sejong. Visiting at 1:30pm on a Saturday, three diners ordered two Bapkkot Special sets and one octopus shrimp rice bowl for ₩65,000 total, faced a wait, and found three rice bowl dishes already sold out. You know those days when you really want a proper Korean meal on a weekend?

I didn't feel like cooking, but I also didn't want anything too spicy or heavy. So I found the perfect place — Bapkkot Hansang, on the 3rd floor of Sejongmachi near Sejong Lake Park.

## Know this before you go

We went for weekend lunch and there was a wait. The staff told us, "You absolutely need to reserve on weekends." Without a reservation, you might wait quite a while.

When we got there and checked the tablet menu, three rice bowl dishes were already sold out — the beef brisket japchae bowl, pork bulgogi japchae bowl, and seafood japchae bowl.

💡 So to sum up: reserve ahead if you're going for weekend lunch, and if you have a specific dish in mind, go early.

⚠️ The Bapkkot Special and Bapkkot Special Course require 2 or more people. If you're dining alone, you'll need to go with a rice bowl.

## What we ordered

- 2 Bapkkot Special sets
- 1 octopus shrimp rice bowl

I picked the Bapkkot Special since I'd heard it was the restaurant's signature dish, and added an octopus shrimp rice bowl out of curiosity.

![Bapkkot Special table setting full of side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/sejong-machi-korean-set-weekend-reservation/sejong-machi-korean-set-weekend-reservation-07-ve89g-900.webp)

I was a little surprised seeing the table set up — way more side dish plates than I expected.

## Let's start with the banchan

The Bapkkot Special comes with quite a few side dishes. Here they are one by one.

### Buckwheat noodle salad

Two small flower-shaped dishes come out. Buckwheat noodles topped with a creamy sauce and whole grain mustard. Tangy and nutty — great for opening up the appetite.

### Stir-fried eggplant and zucchini

Served in a red bowl with something like garaetteok (rice cake sticks) mixed in. Eggplant, zucchini, and mushroom stir-fried together, lightly seasoned and really tasty.

### This one tasted like a savory pasta somehow

Carrots, onion, and red chili mixed together. Nice sesame oil aroma and a crunchy texture.

### The rest

- Napa cabbage kimchi
- Stir-fried pumpkin seeds and nuts
- Zucchini in gochujang sauce
- Cabbage salad (mustard dressing)
- Clear soup (scallion, enoki mushroom)
- Two pieces of tofu

💡 Overall, the banchan is mildly seasoned. The restaurant's info says they don't use MSG, and it really wasn't sharp or heavy in flavor. Great seasoning level for taking parents or grandparents along.

## The Bapkkot Special main dish

The minari beef patty comes out in a stone pot. Glossy with soy sauce glaze, piled high with minari (water dropwort) and sesame seeds.

The patty itself has real texture — not finely ground, so you can feel the meat. The soy sauce glaze wasn't too sweet, so it didn't get tiring even after a while.

> The minari was the real trick here. It cuts through the richness of the meat with its aroma.

### Chive jeon

The chive pancake that comes with it is the crispy type. Fried well so the edges were especially crunchy, and the dipping sauce had a green tint from cheongyang chili, giving it a slight kick.

### Bossam and tangy vegetable salad

A wide plate holds a few slices of bossam (boiled pork) alongside a fresh lettuce salad. The pork had a subtle herbal aroma and no off smell. Great eaten together with the salad.

### Doenjang stew

The doenjang stew served in an earthenware pot seems to be the house's pride. It's even promoted separately on the tablet screen. The description says it's simmered with shiitake and king oyster mushrooms from Chungnam, plus potatoes, scallions, and peppers grown directly on the Bapkkot farm.

Scooping it up, there really are big chunks of mushroom and potato. Not salty, more on the savory side. Mixed into rice, it's genuinely a rice thief.

## Octopus shrimp rice bowl, ₩15,000

This was ordered separately, and it had the prettiest presentation of everything. A wide plate with spicy stir-fried octopus and shrimp on top, and egg garnish, seaweed flakes, and chives layered by color underneath.

The shrimp were plump — not small, and there were plenty of them. The octopus was mostly leg pieces, but not chewy at all.

The spice level is medium. Someone who can't handle spice much could still eat it, but it does build up a slightly hot sensation the more you eat. Best mixed together with the rice.

💡 At ₩15,000, considering the amount of seafood, it didn't feel overpriced at all.

## What we didn't love

⚠️ Let me be honest here.

### First, there's a wait

We went around 1:30pm on a Saturday, and we still had to wait. The staff told us, "You absolutely need to reserve on weekends." If you just show up during lunch hours, be prepared to wait a while.

### Second, popular dishes sell out early

As I mentioned, three rice bowl dishes were already sold out when we arrived. If you have a specific dish in mind, go early or check availability when reserving.

💡 Since reserving ahead solves most of this, it's not a dealbreaker.

## Who should go

- Anyone looking for a place to take parents or older relatives
- People who like mild, non-spicy Korean food
- Groups wanting a proper full spread meal together
- Anyone looking for a meal spot after visiting Sejong Lake Park or the arboretum
- Fans of mixing rice with doenjang stew

### Who might want to skip it

- Anyone needing a fast lunch within a tight time window
- People who prefer spontaneous visits without reserving
- Fans of strongly seasoned food — this place leans mild
- Solo diners — the Bapkkot Special requires 2 or more people

## Overall verdict

We ordered two Bapkkot Special sets and one octopus shrimp rice bowl for ₩65,000 total. For three people with all the banchan included, that's a pretty filling meal.

The beef patty and doenjang stew were definitely standouts. I get why the doenjang stew is sold separately for takeout too.

The wait was a bit of a bummer, but it's the kind of inconvenience that disappears once you reserve. Next time my parents visit, I'll book ahead and bring them here.
