Today I'm writing about my lunch at Riae Olympic Park Branch, where I went for tonkatsu near Olympic Park.

## Inside Riae Premium Olympic Park Branch: mood and seating

Riae Premium Olympic Park Branch was a clean, comfortable space with wood-toned tables and soft lighting. I usually like crispy Japanese-style tonkatsu, so I searched for Gangdong-gu Office area restaurants and found this place — walking in, the atmosphere was cleaner and cozier than I expected. There were tasteful paintings on the walls too, which added to the mood.

On one side there was a long bar-style seating area, which looked great for eating solo, and on the other side there were tables for 2–4 people, good for friends or family visits. There were even high chairs for kids. The kitchen was open, so I could catch glimpses of the food being prepared, and the whole place felt well-kept.

## Which pork Riae Premium uses and what 336-hour aging means

Inside the restaurant, I noticed a sign explaining Riae's cooking philosophy.

![Signage describing Riae's cooking philosophy](https://img.superchart.com/images/lie-premium-olympic-park-duo-katsu-curry/lie-premium-olympic-park-duo-katsu-curry-08-14zmg-900.webp)

It talked about cooking with real dedication to the meat in order to make delicious tonkatsu, and noted that they use K-Berkshire, Kagoshima black pork, and domestic 3% premium YLD Jirisan hanwoo pork. It also said the meat is aged for over 336 hours, which made me curious about the texture. With that much care going into it, how could it not taste good, haha!

Riae says they focus on the balance of meat flavor, aroma, and texture, and eating it myself, I could really feel the tenderness and depth of flavor in the meat itself.

## What to order at Riae Premium: choosing the menu combination

Once I sat down, I looked over the menu first — there were so many types of tonkatsu that I spent a good while deciding, haha.

After much deliberation, I ordered the Premium Sirloin Katsu (deungsim) & Tenderloin Katsu (hire) duo, plus the cold soba tenderloin set and Tokyo Spicy Curry.

## How does the sirloin and tenderloin katsu duo taste?

I tried the tenderloin (hire) first, and as expected of tenderloin, the meat was really soft. The cross-section showed how moist it was, and when I chewed it, it wasn't tough or dry at all — it just went down smoothly. It had a mild, clean flavor, so it was delicious whether dipped in tonkatsu sauce or eaten plain.

The sirloin (deungsim) had a slightly deeper meat aroma and savory richness than the tenderloin, and the breading wasn't too thick, so the tender texture of the meat came through well. It was tasty dipped in sauce, but eating it with a bit of wasabi and salt brought out the meat's flavor even more. There were also many sauces to choose from — truffle oil, Maldon salt, yuzu soy sauce, and more — so I could try dipping it in each one, haha.

The cabbage salad and pickles that came with the tonkatsu were nice to nibble on in between bites, and with rice and miso soup included, it made for a pretty filling meal. The fact that rice and soup were refillable was a nice touch too!

## Cold soba tenderloin set and Tokyo Spicy Curry

The cold soba set comes with cold soba and tenderloin tonkatsu together. The cold soba had buckwheat noodles in a cool broth, so it was clean and refreshing from the first bite. The noodles were chewy with the distinct mild flavor of buckwheat — a great combination for when you want both cold soba and tonkatsu. Taking a bite of cold soba in between bites of tonkatsu cleared my palate, so I ended up alternating between the two dishes, haha.

I ordered the Tokyo Spicy Curry as a side just out of curiosity about the flavor, and it turned out to be rich curry with a subtle kick of spice, good with rice. Paired with the tonkatsu, it seemed to cut through the richness nicely.

Overall, ordering a variety of dishes to share made for a hearty, satisfying meal.

## Is Riae Premium worth it for a tonkatsu lunch near Olympic Park?

I visited while looking for tonkatsu near Olympic Park, and the flavor and tender texture of the meat itself made a strong impression — I think it's also a good reference for anyone looking for Japanese food in Seongnae-dong. If you're near Olympic Park trying to figure out what to eat for lunch, ordering tonkatsu with cold soba seems like a good idea. If you like tonkatsu, give Riae a try 🤍
