# Chungmuro bossam restaurant for 3-generation family: Nagwon-ui Soba

## Where do you take three generations for a Chuseok family dinner?

Grandparents want warm kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), kids want pork cutlet, and I want cold buckwheat noodles. There really aren't many places that can pull off all three at one table. Nagwon-ui Soba, a Chungmuro restaurant I visited recently, turned out to be exactly that kind of place. Apparently it's already a proven local favorite — members of a nearby church bring their families here on weekends.

## What kind of restaurant is Nagwon-ui Soba?

The Chungmuro Station main branch of Nagwon-ui Soba makes its own buckwheat noodles fresh in-house every single day. It started small in Seoul National University Station area back in 2018 before moving to Chungmuro, but one principle hasn't changed since day one: the noodles are hand-kneaded and rolled out fresh every day, and all of it gets used up within that same day. You can taste the difference the moment you try the cold buckwheat noodles or soba — the noodles are just different.

It's a name you're bound to run into while searching for Chungmuro restaurants or Dongguk University restaurants, and since moving to Chungmuro it's added bossam and kalguksu to the menu, so now it's more of a full-course soba specialist than just a noodle shop. It works well whether you're grabbing a solo bowl of soba or setting up a dinner gathering in Chungmuro or Euljiro.

## How do you get to Nagwon-ui Soba from Chungmuro Station, and is there parking?

Nagwon-ui Soba is located at 2F, 2 Seoae-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul. Come out of Exit 1 of Chungmuro Station (Lines 3 and 4), walk straight ahead, and you'll arrive in about 3 minutes. It's on the 2nd floor of the building, so just follow the sign up the stairs. It's also walkable from Dongguk University, which is why it's well known as a Dongguk University restaurant too.

There's no parking at the restaurant itself. Instead, you have two options.

- Paid lot at Hessen Mart (Starbucks building) across the street
- Mukjeong Park public parking lot (paid)

Rates run ₩5,000 for the first 60 minutes and ₩5,000 for each additional 60 minutes, up to ₩60,000 max, so I'd honestly recommend taking the subway if you can. It's only 3 minutes from the station, so public transit is much more convenient.

## How long is the wait, and can you reserve a table?

During lunch peak hours (12:00–13:30), Nagwon-ui Soba tends to get a wait. That's when Dongguk University students and office workers from Chungmuro and Euljiro all pile in, so if you just show up you should brace for a 20–30 minute wait. But there's a workaround. Put in a remote wait on Catch Table before you leave and you can be seated as soon as you arrive, or you can book easily through Naver Reservation. If you're coming with a group, like for a Chuseok family gathering, booking ahead through Naver Reservation is the safer bet. Group seating is available for up to 8 people.

Personally, the best value is the signature soba set at ₩17,000 — you get a noodle dish and pork cutlet together, so it's perfect if you're dining solo but want to try a bit of everything.

## How did the bossam, cheese katsu and soba taste?

We ordered the bossam small for two, cheese katsu, and Jeonju-style soba. First, the signature bossam (₩36,000). We got the small size for two, and the pork came out genuinely generous. They said it's boiled fresh every day.

It comes with wrap vegetables, pollock hoe (raw seasoned pollock), radish strips, and kimchi, and none of it feels heavy or overly seasoned — it has a genuinely healthy feel. This is the kind of spread that goes over well when you're dining with grandparents.

### Jeonju-style soba, 12,000 won: the winner of this visit

Jeonju-style soba (₩12,000) was my personal favorite of the visit. The broth is sweet and mildly salty in a way that just sticks with you, and since the noodles are made fresh in-house, the texture going down is noticeably different.

And... the noodle portion is genuinely huge haha. If you're a light eater, you might not be able to finish the bowl. Just a heads up — they don't do takeout boxes for leftovers, so it's worth ordering with your appetite in mind.

### The cheese katsu portion was smaller than expected

The cheese katsu definitely delivers on the mozzarella stretch, but the portion size was a little disappointing. That said, the fruit sauce salad it comes with is tasty, and it's served with a spicy broth on the side too — this one is sure to be a hit if you're coming with kids.
