Today I wanted to write about my visit to Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun — I'd been craving sushi in the Gwanghwamun area recently.

Gwanghwamun is full of office workers, so there are tons of lunch spots, but when you actually want a clean, proper sushi meal, it can be hard to decide where to go.

That's how I ended up at Elephant Sushi while looking for Gwanghwamun lunch sushi.

What I liked especially is that this place connects directly to Gwanghwamun Station Exit 2 and the basement floor of the KT Gwanghwamun building, so accessibility was great.

On hot or rainy days, being able to walk straight from the station was a real plus.

To cut to the chase, the variety of sushi was great, and it was fun trying each piece one by one — a satisfying meal overall. Let me introduce Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun in more detail.

Once you enter the underground space connected to the KT Gwanghwamun building, you can find the restaurant with almost no chance of getting lost. It's also a convenient spot if you're looking for a place to eat after visiting Gwanghwamun Square, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, or Kyobo Book Centre.

Hours are daily 11:00–21:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00.

## Inside Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun: seating and tablet ordering

Walking into Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun, the first thing you notice is the open, spacious layout.

There are neatly arranged table seats and bar-style seating on one side, which looked great for solo dining or solo sushi.

I also liked that the kitchen was somewhat open, so you could see the sushi being prepared. Overall, it had a bright, clean atmosphere that felt comfortable for office workers stopping by for lunch.

Soy sauce and basic tableware were set out on the table, and ordering was done through a tablet at the table — very convenient.

## What comes in the Elephant Sushi B set: 12 pieces, soup and buckwheat noodles

We ordered the Elephant Sushi B set!! It comes with 12 pieces of sushi plus soup and buckwheat noodles — a set that looks filling just from the photo.

Several types of sushi come piled together in one generous plate, and honestly, doesn't it look delicious? haha

It included white fish, tuna, salmon, shrimp-family sushi, pieces with various toppings, and even futomaki (thick seaweed roll), so instead of eating the same flavor over and over, it was fun picking through different kinds.

In particular, you could see that the raw fish slices were cut relatively thick on top of the rice.

When I picked up a piece, the neta (fish topping) didn't feel thin at all — you could really feel the texture of the fish, which I liked.

Depending on the type, some pieces had a soft texture and others were chewier, so each piece felt a little different.

## Standout pieces: tuna, mayo-topped salmon and futomaki

As I ate, a few pieces really caught my eye.

First, the tuna sushi in the photo had a vivid red color that looked beautiful. It had a soft texture in the mouth, easy to eat without feeling heavy.

The salmon-family sushi was also delicious. In particular, the piece topped with a mayonnaise-style topping added a soft, savory flavor that felt different from a typical fish sushi.

And the white fish sushi had a clean yet chewy texture that paired well with a light dip in soy sauce.

The futomaki was memorable too. It's packed with several ingredients at once, so one bite gives you a mix of different flavors and textures.

If you want to enjoy a variety of sushi types in one sitting, I think the Elephant Sushi B set is a pretty good option.

## The soup and buckwheat noodles served with the B set

Before eating the sushi, a soup also came out.

Having a spoonful of the warm soup before starting on the sushi felt like it cleaned up the palate. There's also a side dish that comes with the sushi.

We got buckwheat noodles, though I heard udon comes sometimes too ^^ Rather than eating sushi nonstop, having some broth or a side dish in between kept things from feeling repetitive — it stayed delicious to the last bite.

And that day we had orange juice alongside it. Paired with the sushi, it made for a filling, satisfying lunch.

## How Elephant Sushi ages its fish

Elephant Sushi turned out to be more than just a place serving various types of sushi — it applies traditional sushi methods and aging techniques.

I heard they prepare fresh fish sourced daily, adjusting the amount of salt and aging time depending on the species.

This process controls the moisture and texture of the fish before it's served as sushi, which gave me the impression that they put in more effort than you'd expect for the price.

Sure enough, in the sushi I tried, each fish had a slightly different texture, which made it fun to compare types as I ate. Even when pieces look similar, the thickness, texture, and toppings of the fish can make quite a difference in flavor.

Trying several kinds one by one was also a fun way to figure out which style suits my taste.

## Is Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun worth it for lunch?

Visiting Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun in person, I liked the clean interior and being able to comfortably enjoy a variety of sushi.

Above all, the connection to Gwanghwamun Station made access really convenient, and the variety of sushi made it fun to try each piece.
