## In short

Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch is a 66-seat jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) restaurant an 8-minute walk from Exit 1 of Bucheon City Hall Station. Ordered by table order, the jjamppong costs 13,000 won, a small sticky rice tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) 19,000 won and shrimp fried rice 11,000 won, and the broth made with 100% Korean sun-dried chili powder tasted clean and fiery rather than heavy. There was a self-bar on one side of the restaurant where you could freely grab tableware and basic side dishes. Especially after the meal, it was great to be able to help yourself to plum tea, iced tea, coffee, and more.

## Menu and ordering: jjamppong 13,000 won, small sticky rice tangsuyuk 19,000 won

![Jjambbong Jijon menu board listing noodles, rice, and tangsuyuk](https://img.superchart.com/images/bucheon-jjamppong-taeyangcho-broth-tangsuyuk/bucheon-jjamppong-taeyangcho-broth-tangsuyuk-08-hs4m9-900.webp)

The menu included noodles, rice dishes, tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), dumplings, extra items, alcohol, and drinks. Among these, we ordered jjamppong (₩13,000), sticky rice tangsuyuk small (₩19,000), and shrimp fried rice (₩11,000) via table order. The jjamppong let you choose your spice level, and the tangsuyuk sauce could be requested separately, so it was nice being able to order to taste.

### The dishes arrive at the table

![Table spread with jjamppong, sticky rice tangsuyuk, and shrimp fried rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/bucheon-jjamppong-taeyangcho-broth-tangsuyuk/bucheon-jjamppong-taeyangcho-broth-tangsuyuk-09-156lg-900.webp)

The ordered dishes came out sooner than expected. First, the jjamppong arrived with a strong smoky aroma, the bowl generously packed with noodles, chives, cabbage, zucchini, onion, and various seafood. It looked spicy just from the visuals, and the deep smoky scent made my mouth water before even taking a bite. The sticky rice tangsuyuk had thinly sliced raw onion piled high on top, served alongside sweet potato fritters. The outside looked crispy, and being fried with sticky rice, it promised a chewy texture too. The shrimp fried rice had shrimp, various vegetables, and egg evenly stir-fried, and the accompanying jjajang sauce was also loaded with a variety of ingredients.

## How does the sun-dried chili powder jjamppong broth taste?

The jjamppong broth at Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch was clean and spicy without any heaviness. They say it's made with 100% domestic sun-dried chili powder exclusive to the restaurant, and since it's cooked to order, you could really feel the piping hot temperature.

![Lifting up jjamppong noodles soaked in broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/bucheon-jjamppong-taeyangcho-broth-tangsuyuk/bucheon-jjamppong-taeyangcho-broth-tangsuyuk-11-1r9nx-900.webp)

Trying the jjamppong broth first, maybe because it's made right when ordered, I could really feel the hot temperature, and using 100% domestic sun-dried chili powder made the broth clean rather than heavy, with the spicy flavor coming through well. Loaded with seafood and vegetables, it also had a refreshing quality, and I kept going back for more. The broth soaked into the noodles well, seasoning them just right, and the springy texture came through nicely too. Overall the balance between broth, noodles, and seafood was good, and the rich flavor characteristic of a jjamppong specialty restaurant was impressive.

## How does the crispy-outside, chewy-inside sticky rice tangsuyuk taste?

The sticky rice tangsuyuk (small, ₩19,000) was crispy outside and chewy inside from the sticky rice, topped generously with thinly sliced raw onion. Since sauce could be requested separately, I enjoyed it dipping-style.

![Sticky rice tangsuyuk topped with raw onion and sweet potato fritters](https://img.superchart.com/images/bucheon-jjamppong-taeyangcho-broth-tangsuyuk/bucheon-jjamppong-taeyangcho-broth-tangsuyuk-12-50zdo-900.webp)

The sticky rice tangsuyuk was crispy on the outside while the distinctive chewy texture of sticky rice came through well. The meat inside was tender and clean without any gamey smell, going well with the fried coating. Especially with the raw onion on top, dipping it in the tangsuyuk sauce added the sweet crunch of onion along with the sweet-and-sour sauce flavor, making it even more enjoyable.

## How does the shrimp fried rice taste?

The shrimp fried rice (₩11,000) was stir-fried over high heat so the grains stayed fluffy, meant to be mixed with the accompanying jjajang sauce.

The shrimp fried rice had fluffy, well-separated grains, likely from being stir-fried over high heat, which gave it good texture. It also had various vegetables and shrimp mixed in, offering different textures throughout, and mixing in a bite with the jjajang sauce added the sauce's savory depth and the toasted flavor of chunjang, pairing well with the fried rice.

## The complimentary jjamppong fried dumplings

![Crispy complimentary jjamppong fried dumplings](https://img.superchart.com/images/bucheon-jjamppong-taeyangcho-broth-tangsuyuk/bucheon-jjamppong-taeyangcho-broth-tangsuyuk-14-19lo2-900.webp)

We got jjamppong fried dumplings as a complimentary side. Unlike regular fried dumplings, these had fillings that carried jjamppong flavor, giving them a slightly spicy yet deeply savory taste. The dumpling skin was fried crispy, and it paired well texturally with the filling. It's a side dish worth ordering separately next time too.
