The bathroom is outside, and it's really clean and well-kept — and best of all, that hand cream. Hand wash is standard, but places that also have hand cream are super rare, and it was honestly the best,,,,,,

Once you sit down, you can order a drink, and they bring you mini yakgwa (honey cookies) and mini muffins along with it. (I love yakgwa so much, seriously!)

## Designer Hyunbin, who spent 30 years with curly hair himself

The designer taking care of my sister was none other than Designer Hyunbin. He says he has severe, hard-to-manage curls himself. From that experience, he's concluded that curls aren't something to simply straighten out — things change the moment you understand them — so he designs each client's style to fit their specific hair texture.

## How the magic straightening and C-curl setting perm were done

Today's treatment for my sister was straightening plus setting. To match her half-curly hair, the areas with more curl would be straightened out, and the ends would get a C-curl perm so they'd be easy to manage naturally.

First he shampooed her hair and checked its condition. I was grateful to see how carefully he checked the style she wanted and the degree of curliness she had.

One thing that always worries me at hair salons is asking for a trim and ending up with mid-length hair,,, or asking to cut just a few centimeters and having it chopped off in chunks. There have been a lot of places like that. But Designer Hyunbin checked the length with my sister piece by piece, confirmed exactly how much length she wanted to keep, and did the cut first, adding in a layered cut to match the style she wanted.

After the cut came the softening solution application. He applied it thoroughly and kept checking in carefully to see if anything felt uncomfortable. The softening process took about 30-40 minutes I think.

Then came the perm work. Under the designer's careful hands, my sister's hair was gradually coming together.

After that he did the straightening work. If straightening is done wrong, you can end up with what I'd call a boundary line — a sudden, awkward ridge right where the flat iron worked. He was careful to make sure no boundary line showed up, and finished the straightening with that in mind. Finally he washed her hair, blow-dried it, explained how to style it and how to keep the curl looking good, and — done!
