## In short

Wolhadong is a clear pork gomtang (bone broth soup) restaurant in a hanok at the end of an Insadong alley in Jongno, Seoul, a 4-minute walk from Anguk Station Exit 5. Dining alone, the writer ordered the Wolha gomtang (12,000 won base) with extra meat plus a half plate of cold jeyuk (chilled boiled pork, 10,000 won), and finished everything down to the 100% domestic kimchi and kkakdugi (radish kimchi), with no porky smell in the meat. Wolhadong warms you up on a chilly day and works just as easily for solo meals, dates or group dinners.

Whenever the weather turns chilly like this, I automatically start craving something warm and deep-flavored! 🍂 Today I'm sharing my visit to Wolhadong, tucked at the end of an Insadong alley near Anguk Station, where you can enjoy refined Korean food in a serene hanok (traditional Korean house) setting.

## Where is Wolhadong and when is it open? A hanok 4 minutes from Anguk Station

Wolhadong is at 16-1 Insadong 8-gil, 1st floor, Jongno-gu, Seoul, 332m from Anguk Station Exit 5. It's open 11:00-21:00, with break time from 15:00-17:00 and last order at 20:30.

Type the address into your navigation app, head into the alley, and a beautiful hanok building greets you.

It's close to Anguk-dong, Bukchon, and Ikseon-dong too, so it makes a stylish date-course stop or a spot to bring foreign friends.

## House-brewed warm tea instead of water at Wolhadong

Here's the first thing that got me! 🍵 At Wolhadong, once you sit down, instead of plain bottled water, they serve you warm, freshly brewed tea.

You know the rule: a place that serves you thoughtfully brewed tea instead of plain water is 200% likely to be a great restaurant.

### Inside the Insadong hanok: seating and atmosphere

The inside has that serene hanok atmosphere. You can just feel that this is a good restaurant...

## What to order alone: Wolha gomtang with extra meat and a half plate of cold jeyuk

I came alone but wanted to eat well, so I diligently ordered the basic Wolha gomtang with extra meat, plus a side of cold jeyuk as a single portion.

Wolha gomtang (₩12,000 base): comes out with clear, transparent broth piled generously with meat.

Cold jeyuk half plate (₩10,000): thinly sliced, chilled boiled pork with no off smell and a chewy texture — a real specialty!

I tasted the first spoonful of broth and meat expecting the clear pork gomtang style made famous by the show Culinary Class Wars, as 'Pork Gomtang Goes to New York' (Chef Ok Dong-sik).

> Honestly, one bite of the meat and I was smiling without even meaning to...! ❤️

Maybe because they've recreated a Joseon-era cooking method, there's absolutely zero off smell to the meat, and the clear, clean broth delivers deep umami. Thanks to the extra meat, every spoonful was packed with thin, tender slices, satisfying to the very last bite. The cold jeyuk I ordered alongside was chewy and clean-tasting once dipped lightly in sauce — a perfect match with the gomtang.

## The side dishes that make the soup: 100% domestic kimchi and kkakdugi

Wolhadong's kimchi and kkakdugi are apparently made with care using 100% domestic ingredients. No matter how good the broth and meat are, a restaurant can't be truly great if the side dishes fall short — and Wolhadong's kimchi and kkakdugi were impressive too.

![A plate of domestic kimchi and kkakdugi at Wolhadong](https://img.superchart.com/images/insadong-hanok-gomtang-solo-kimchi/insadong-hanok-gomtang-solo-kimchi-11-1mgq0-900.webp)

These days I pay close attention to ingredient origins when eating out, so it was reassuring to enjoy the meal without worry.

The crisp, well-fermented kkakdugi adds a clean refreshing touch when paired with the clear, mild gomtang broth, while the moderately spicy-sweet kimchi, laid over the tender meat, sends the umami into overdrive. With every spoonful of soup topped with a bit of kimchi, my stomach just felt settled — I finished the kimchi completely, it was that good.
