## In short

Dambaek Jujeom is a Korean bar on the second floor of a converted house between Sangsu Station and Hongdae's Red Road in Mapo, Seoul. Stopping in for a second round after dinner, the writer ordered pork belly tofu kimchi (20,000 won) and spicy octopus stir-fry with rice balls (22,000 won), and the seaweed-flecked rice balls took the edge off the heat. Dambaek Jujeom suits a second round where you want light dishes to pick at with chopsticks rather than a heavy meal.

A Sangsu Korean bar, a Hapjeong bossam (steamed pork wrap) spot. On the 2nd floor of Dambaek Jujeom, located on the trendy Hongdae Red Road, you can enjoy fusion Korean food in a cozy atmosphere.

The suyuk (steamed pork) set meals come with rice, kalguksu noodles, and wrap vegetables, and the dishes you'd want for a second round — samgyeop suyuk tofu kimchi, spicy octopus stir-fry — come out neatly plated too, which I liked :)

## Why Dambaek Jujeom near Sangsu Station works for a second round in Hongdae

Dambaek Jujeom, a Korean bar near Sangsu Station on Hongdae's Red Road, serves everything from pork belly tofu kimchi to spicy octopus stir-fry. After a satisfying first round in Hongdae, we weren't ready to call it a night, so we ended up here for round two.

It's easy to get to from the Red Road side and also from Sangsu Station, so we came here with friends for a drink.

### Where is Dambaek Jujeom? Second floor of a converted house

The Dambaek Jujeom I visited sits on the 2nd floor of a converted single-family house. It's a good spot to remember if you're near Hongdae Red Road or Sangsu Station and looking for somewhere to have a drink with Korean-style snacks.

After finishing a first round in Hongdae's characteristically bustling streets, it was a convenient move for round two.

## Dambaek Jujeom menu and prices

Since we'd already had a first round, we decided to order a few snacks and take our time chatting over them. Looking at the menu, there was a wide range of Korean dishes that go well with drinks — suyuk (steamed pork), tofu kimchi, octopus stir-fry, savory pancakes, and more.

- Pork jowl suyuk, single serving: ₩18,000
- Pork belly suyuk, single serving: ₩16,000

The menu changes with the seasons. On the day we went, the main dish was suyuk — pork simmered in a barley broth, light and mild.

Since it was already our second round, seeing the pork belly tofu kimchi and the neatly arranged pork belly suyuk lifted the mood. I really wanted to dig into the suyuk too.

## Pork belly tofu kimchi, 20,000 won: the ideal second-round dish

The first dish we ordered was pork belly tofu kimchi. It comes with steamed pork belly, kimchi, and tofu all together — a familiar yet welcome combo for drinking snacks.

Pairing the mild steamed pork with kimchi, and mixing in bites of mild tofu here and there, made for easy, gradual snacking with drinks. Especially for a second round, dishes like this — light, meant to be picked at with chopsticks by a group — seem to fit surprisingly well, rather than something too heavy.

## Spicy octopus stir-fry with rice balls, 22,000 won

Of everything we ordered that night, the octopus stir-fry with rice ball was the dish we kept coming back to. The spicy stir-fried octopus works great as a standalone snack, and pairing it with the accompanying rice ball — spicy meets savory rice — made for great bites.

If you especially like spicy snacks with your drinks, this is the dish your chopsticks won't leave alone.

## From bossam to pancakes: other Korean bar dishes at Dambaek Jujeom

True to its name, Dambaek Jujeom's menu centers on Korean-style drinking snacks. Both pork belly and pork jowl suyuk are on the menu, so if you're a fan of bossam (steamed pork wraps), the suyuk dishes are worth checking out too.

The single-serving pork belly suyuk and pork jowl suyuk come with vegetables and kalguksu noodles, making for a satisfying meal-like option.
