## In short

The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch is a Korean restaurant near Guro Station and Sindorim in Seoul that serves jokbal (braised pork trotters) and bossam (boiled pork) from lunchtime. After a tiring wedding fair, an engaged couple ordered the trio combo — 200g of bossam plus jokbal plus the soy-sauce dish, 51,000 won at the time — eating the jokbal in perilla-leaf wraps and the bossam in napa cabbage wraps. The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch also hands out a 1-hour discount ticket for the Sindorim 3-cha Prugio parking lot, so driving over was easy.

My fiancé and I went to a wedding fair over the weekend. Ever since we started planning the wedding, I can't believe how many things there are to decide — the hall, the wedding photos/dress/makeup package, the honeymoon, all of it haha. That day, after comparing options and sitting through consultation after consultation, we were both completely drained. We hadn't eaten properly since morning, so the moment we walked out, we both said the exact same thing at the same time: "Let's eat first." Hahaha. We were too hungry to settle for a café or something light, so we looked for a Guro lunch spot where we could get real meat, and ended up at The Jokbal.

## Where is The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch, and where do you park?

The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch is on the 1st floor of the commercial building at Sindorim 3-cha Prugio Apartment, so it was easy to find from the Sindorim side, and it's also within reasonable reach of Guro Station, so it should work well for anyone searching for restaurants near Guro Station too.

We drove, so we used the Sindorim 3-cha Prugio parking lot and got a 1-hour discount ticket from the restaurant. Driving into Sindorim can be stressful just because of parking, so having that support was a nice touch.

## Can you eat jokbal for lunch in Sindorim?

Walking in, there were more lunchtime diners than I expected. I usually think of jokbal places as an evening-with-drinks kind of spot, but this place has a lunch menu too, so it seems like a solid option if you're looking for a Sindorim lunch spot. There are several tables, and since jokbal and bossam are dishes made for sharing, it also looks like a good candidate for a Sindorim group dinner or work gathering spot.

## What the 51,000-won trio combo includes

We didn't want to pick just one thing, so we went straight for the trio combo haha. Our combination was bossam 200g + jokbal + a soy-sauce menu item. It was ₩51,000 at the time we ordered.

Whenever you go to a jokbal place, you're always stuck deciding "jokbal or bossam?" But here you can try several things at once, which was great for someone as indecisive as me haha. When the spread came out, it was more generous than expected — I figured this was where we'd fully recharge from all the energy the wedding fair drained out of us.

Interestingly, a small tasting portion of cold jokbal (naengchae jokbal) came out too, and it was so good :) Nice touch with that little extra!

The side dishes came out in a clean, simple set, and having napa cabbage wraps included was genuinely moving, and the cool bean sprout soup was really good too!

### The jokbal: glossy skin and tender meat

We started with the plain jokbal, and as you can see in the photos, the glossiness was no joke. The lean meat and fat were balanced just right, so each bite was soft and not dry at all. The skin in particular was chewy but not the kind you have to gnaw on forever — eaten together with the meat, the texture was just right.

Jokbal can sometimes have a gamey smell or greasy fat that makes you stop reaching for it after a few pieces, but here I kept going back for more. It was delicious with a little salted shrimp on top, and wrapped in perilla leaf with garlic and ssamjang (dipping sauce), it was honestly the exact meal I'd been craving haha.

### The bossam we kept reaching for

And then the bossam! Personally, when bossam has a higher ratio of lean meat, it tends to go dry the moment it cools even a little, so I usually prefer jokbal. But this bossam was juicier than expected. The meat was sliced neither too thin nor too thick, and the more you chewed, the more its clean pork flavor came through, which paired well with the spicy radish kimchi.

Especially loading a piece of bossam onto napa cabbage with chive salad, garlic, and ssamjang gave you crunchy, juicy, and spicy all at once! Wrapped in perilla leaf instead, the fragrant aroma added a completely different feel from the jokbal.

### The soy-sauce dish for sweet-and-salty lovers

Of the three, the one with the most distinctly different flavor was the soy-sauce seasoned menu item. The glossy soy glaze came with rice cake and onion mixed in, and the sweet-and-salty flavor hit immediately with the first bite. Where the plain jokbal is clean and chewy, this one has a bold seasoned flavor, so it was great to alternate between the two.

Since the sauce soaked so juicily into the meat, I kept grabbing a piece of rice cake, then a piece of meat, and this ended up disappearing the fastest haha. All three items tasted completely different, so I was glad we went with the combo.

## Perilla leaf vs napa cabbage: two ways to wrap

Jokbal and bossam were tasty on their own, but I still love wrapping mine haha. We got lettuce, perilla leaf, and napa cabbage as the basics, plus chive salad, radish kimchi, and garlic, so I could mix and match to my taste.

First I put a piece of jokbal on a perilla leaf, added garlic, ssamjang, and some spicy radish kimchi, and took a big bite. The chewy, juicy texture of the jokbal, the burst of perilla aroma, and the spicy kick from the radish kimchi kept the meat from feeling heavy no matter how much I ate.

I especially loved piling the jokbal on thick like in the photo haha. And the combination that surprised me the most was wrapping it in napa cabbage — piling generous amounts of bossam and chive salad onto the crisp, cool cabbage, adding a bit of garlic and ssamjang, and the clean juicy bossam combined with the spicy chive salad and crunchy cabbage was such a good combination. Jokbal in perilla leaf, bossam in napa cabbage — we kept alternating between the two.

## Is The Jokbal Sindorim worth it after a wedding fair?

![Table at The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch after finishing the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/dujokbal-sindorim-lunch-wedding-fair/dujokbal-sindorim-lunch-wedding-fair-16-1w7or-900.webp)

Honestly, this wasn't a day we set out to go restaurant-hunting — we walked in thinking "please, let's just eat something good" after being completely wiped out at the wedding fair. Maybe that's why it tasted even better haha. Wedding planning is exciting, but comparing quotes and listening to explanations all day really drains your energy way more than you'd expect. Still, sitting there at the end eating something this good, talking through everything we'd seen that day with my fiancé, made us finally feel human again haha.

If you want a hearty meat lunch or can't decide between jokbal and bossam, I'd recommend trying the combo menu to get a taste of everything. With options for a solo lunch all the way up to a meal for a group, it's worth considering whether you're looking for a Sindorim lunch spot, a restaurant near Guro Station, or a Sindorim group dinner place. If you're drained after finishing up business in Sindorim like we were haha and need a hearty meal, this is a good place to fill up on jokbal, bossam, and even mak guksu (buckwheat noodles) :)
