## In short

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a longtime bunsik (Korean street food) restaurant on Hangang-daero 39-gil near Yongsan Station in Seoul. The writer ordered the tteokbokki, fritters and sundae set, dipping gimmari (fried seaweed rice rolls), squid and sweet potato fritters into the tteokbokki broth before moving on to sundae (blood sausage) served with liver and lung. Hyeonseonine is nothing flashy, but it nails the basics — easy for a solo meal and just as good shared with a friend.

## What kind of place is Hyeonseonine, a Yongsan tteokbokki restaurant?

Yongsan restaurant, Yongsan tteokbokki spot, Yongridan-gil restaurant. If you're looking for a good tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) place in Yongsan, Seoul, Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is somewhere you have to try at least once. It's a long-loved bunsik (Korean street food) spot that's already word-of-mouth famous, and after visiting myself, I totally get why it's so popular.

It's right near Yongsan Station, so it's super accessible — great for a quick meal alone or a casual stop with a friend. The moment you walk in, you feel that lively bunsik-restaurant energy. Lunch and dinner hours are packed pretty much nonstop, so you can really feel it's a popular spot.

## Ordering the tteokbokki, fritters and sundae set: how is the tteokbokki?

I ordered the basic tteokbokki, fried food, and sundae set. First, the tteokbokki looked appetizing with its bright red sauce, and one bite in, the sweet-spicy balance was really good. Not too intense, but addictive enough that you keep reaching for more — now I get why everyone calls it 'Hyeonseonine tteokbokki.' The rice cakes were chewy too, so the texture was perfect!

## Gimmari, squid fritters and sundae: is Hyeonseonine good value?

The fried food had a good variety, and the gimmari (fried seaweed roll) and fried squid in particular were really crispy and savory. Barely any oily smell, and the freshly-fried crunch was still alive — dipping them into the tteokbokki broth was the best combo. The sundae (Korean blood sausage) was also clean-tasting with no off smell, and chewy, so it was easy to just eat plainly too.

What I liked most was how satisfying it was for the price. Given how prices are these days, I'd say this is genuinely a great-value spot for this quality. It's not a burden to eat alone, and it's also great for ordering a bunch of menu items to share with friends — a place that works in all kinds of situations.

Table turnover is also pretty fast, so even if there's a wait, it's shorter than you'd think. The staff responded quickly too, and the whole place felt well kept, which was another plus.

Overall, Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch really shows what 'delicious bunsik that nails the basics' looks like. There's nothing especially flashy or unique on the menu, but that basic flavor is executed so well that it has an appeal anyone can enjoy without hesitation.

## Hyeonseonine's dining room and the best time to visit

If you're looking for a great bunsik spot in Yongsan, Seoul, Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch always comes up. It's so famous that I'd wanted to visit for a long time, and this time I finally went and really felt why it's so popular.

It's near Yongsan Station so it's really accessible, and there were plenty of customers who came specifically for it, not just nearby office workers or students. The exterior has a modest bunsik-restaurant look, but honestly that made it feel even more welcoming and comfortable. Inside isn't as big as you'd expect, but table turnover is fast so I didn't wait long to get seated. Lines do form during lunch and dinner peak hours, so timing your visit well is one tip.

Ordering was pretty simple, and the menu is mostly familiar bunsik items, so it was easy to choose without overthinking. I ordered the tteokbokki, fried food, and sundae set — honestly the textbook bunsik combo.

The tteokbokki caught the eye first with its glossy, appetizing sauce. One bite in, the sweet and moderately spicy flavors blended together nicely, and it wasn't too intense, so I didn't get tired of eating it. The broth wasn't too thin or too thick, so the sauce soaked well into the rice cakes, and the rice cakes themselves were chewy with great texture. There was plenty of fish cake too, which was fun to eat along with the broth.

## Three fritters and sundae served with liver and lung

The fried food really exceeded expectations. I ordered a variety — gimmari, squid, sweet potato — and overall the batter was thin and crispy, so it was easy to eat without feeling too heavy. It especially didn't feel overly oily, which I appreciated. Dipping it in the tteokbokki broth gave both crispiness and moistness at once, so I kept reaching for more. The gimmari stood out to me personally — packed full inside while still staying crispy, which made it really satisfying.

Can't skip the sundae either. It had no off smell and a clean, chewy texture. It came with organs like liver and lung too, so I got to enjoy a range of textures, and dipping each in salt or in the tteokbokki broth brought out a different kind of appeal.
