My dad and I love jazz so much we recently got a turntable at home. I'd never seen jazz live before, so we went to Allegro, a Songpa favorite, to catch a trio performance!

We arrived after 7:30pm and got to enjoy Italian dining while listening to live jazz. The menu paired really well with wine too. Next time I want to bring friends, and visit with my boyfriend for an anniversary!!

The live schedule changes every month, so let me share September's jazz lineup at Allegro! On a special day, enjoy a steak with a glass of wine, catch live jazz, and even get an anniversary lettering cake!!

## Where Allegro is and what the room feels like

Allegro sits quietly on the 3rd floor, a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Songpanaru Station. Step off the elevator and you'll see a table listing the month's live schedule.

A quartet is four musicians, a trio is three. I love trios because you can really hear the contrabass, so I booked to see the 'Lee Hyunju Trio' live. Notice it says opened August 15th? This dining jazz bar hasn't even been open a month.

We got a seat with a great view of the bassist. Most tables are for two, so it's cozy for a date.

### Restrooms at Allegro

There are separate men's and women's restrooms inside, on the opposite side from the stage.

Outside the stalls there's a sink with mouthwash and a big mirror, great for freshening up.

There's even a sink inside each stall, and a built-in dryer in the ceiling. Super dry and pleasant!

## Allegro jazz live set times and live charge

Allegro's performances run two 40-minute sets starting at 7:30pm, about 2 hours total with the break in between. If you book or walk in during show hours, the live charge is ₩10,000 per person on weekdays and ₩15,000 on weekends.

## Allegro menu and how to order

Come for lunch between 12:00 and 3:00pm and the entire menu is 15% off — pasta is just ₩16,000!!

Main dishes run in the ₩30,000s, which is good value for Italian dining in Jamsil! There are plates designed to pair with wine, great for a second round of live jazz with a glass of wine.

The menu only lists bottle prices, but they also sell by the glass. Once you're seated, they hand you an ordering tablet so you can order right from your table.

We ordered one salad, steak, pasta, and two glasses of wine.

## Wine by the glass: Paisan Sauvignon Blanc and a limoncello spritz

We ordered a white wine and a sparkling wine to go with the seafood salad.

The Limoncello Spritz had refreshing carbonation and a bright lemon flavor. The Paisan Sauvignon Blanc wasn't sweet and went down light and easy.

As we tasted the wine, the performance began.

## Seafood salad (ceviche)

Allegro's 'seafood salad' is actually a seafood ceviche! Bright lemon sauce and balsamic, tender octopus, chewy mussels and scallops with zero fishiness, chopped bell pepper and tomato, and olives that finish it off salty and crisp.

I really recommend ordering this with white wine! The tangy lemon and olives bring out the umami of the seafood, and it's also great as a simple wine snack if you've already eaten. My dad thought it was so good he wrote down the ingredients, haha, saying he wants to try making it at home 😋

It comes with bread to start — dip it lightly in the lemon sauce.

Scoop up octopus, tomato, onion and olive together, pile it onto the lemon-soaked bread, then finish with a light, slightly bitter sip of sauvignon blanc. A perfect appetizer.

## Mushroom cream potato gnocchi

I love gnocchi and always order it when it's on the menu — Allegro's was the best I've had in a while.

It's not overly gummy gnocchi — the outside is crisped up while the inside stays moist and chewy with each bite.

With truffle trending for a while, a lot of mushroom creams have had overpowering truffle flavor, but Allegro's mushroom cream balances a savory cream taste with real mushroom umami. The mushroom pieces in the pasta were also just the right size to scoop up together with the gnocchi. The hot, crispy gnocchi soaked in cream and mushroom bites softly together — potato and mushroom in harmony.

## Arancini (fried risotto balls)

Arancini is rice stuffed with cheese and deep-fried.

Crispy fried rice in tomato sauce and white sauce? How could anyone not love that.

Hot stretchy cheese inside, fluffy rice with a crispy fried coating, and tangy sauce — the balance was great. A perfect simple bite with wine.

## Sous-vide pork neck steak

Sous-vide-cooked pork shoulder, moist inside and seared crispy, served with fries.

The sauce on top wasn't your typical steak sauce either — savory with umami that cut through any richness.

It's pork shoulder but not dry at all. The fatty part especially was nutty rather than greasy, and delicious. The kind of flavor that makes you crave red wine.

I enjoyed a lot of dining dishes, but Allegro is also a space where just a glass of wine is enough — the live jazz itself becomes the perfect pairing. So come enjoy the show without any pressure to order a lot.

## Final thoughts and the anniversary lettering dessert

Since Allegro lets you enjoy jazz performances alongside Italian dining, I'd really recommend booking after 7:30pm so you can eat while listening to the live set. Most jazz bars charge per set, but here the live charge for two full sets is only around ₩15,000 on weekends — a genuinely good price for great music!! Even if it's your first time at a jazz bar, feel free to stop by and discover a new experience and taste, haha.

It's especially perfect for setting a romantic mood on an anniversary. If you mention it's an anniversary in your reservation request, they'll bring out a lettering dessert — so I really recommend it as an anniversary date restaurant!!
