## In short

Bogi-o Boguk is a pufferfish restaurant on Dosan-daero near Cheongdam Station in Gangnam, Seoul, serving everything from boguk (pufferfish soup) to wild milbok jiri (clear pufferfish soup) and pufferfish sashimi to pufferfish tempura. This visit paired the wild milbok jiri with 4 pieces of pufferfish karaage, alternating between the clear, clean broth and the crispy fried bites. If you like light, clean soups or want a non-spicy hangover meal in Cheongdam-dong, the wild milbok jiri plus karaage combo at Bogi-o Boguk was a good one.

I wanted something a bit different from my usual Cheongdam-dong go-tos, but still clean and light, so I went to Bogi-o Boguk. 🐡

Pufferfish dishes always feel like something you should eat at a proper specialty restaurant. Bogi-o Boguk (복이오복국), true to its name, is a place where you can enjoy all kinds of pufferfish dishes — boguk (pufferfish soup), wild milbok jiri, pufferfish karaage, pufferfish sashimi, and more.

This time I ordered wild milbok jiri and pufferfish karaage 4pcs. Pairing a clear, refreshing soup with crispy fried bites turned out to have really nice contrast.

For anyone near Cheongdam Station looking for a proper Cheongdam-dong pufferfish restaurant, or a hangover soup that isn't overly spicy, I wanted to introduce this place.

## A pufferfish specialty restaurant found near Cheongdam Station

Bogi-o Boguk is located near Cheongdam Station, so it was easy to get to when I had plans in Cheongdam-dong.

There's no shortage of restaurants in Cheongdam-dong, but when it comes to places specializing specifically in pufferfish, the options are actually fairly limited. What sets this place apart is that you can enjoy pufferfish in several different ways — soup, sashimi, tempura.

Since pufferfish requires specialized handling, it's personally one of those dishes I only trust to a specialty restaurant. It's a great pufferfish restaurant to visit with friends who love pufferfish, or anytime you're craving something a bit different from everyday Korean food.

The atmosphere isn't overly formal either — it's comfortable enough for an easy meal, which also makes it a good option for family meals or gatherings with friends.

## The main dish I chose: wild milbok jiri

![A full serving of clear wild milbok jiri](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheongdam-blowfish-karaage-milbok-jiri/cheongdam-blowfish-karaage-milbok-jiri-06-cou1i-900.webp)

The dish I was most looking forward to on this visit was the wild milbok jiri.

It's a jiri-style dish — pufferfish in a clear broth — so it has a completely different appeal from the red, spicy version of pufferfish soup. Tasting the broth first, it was clean and refreshing rather than intensely seasoned, and I kept reaching for another spoonful without feeling weighed down.

![Scooping up the refreshing wild milbok jiri broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheongdam-blowfish-karaage-milbok-jiri/cheongdam-blowfish-karaage-milbok-jiri-07-hsngi-900.webp)

The pufferfish itself is mild and light, which paired really well with the clear broth. Unlike a typical white fish that flakes apart too softly, it had a firmer texture, which made it fun to pick the meat off piece by piece.

The appeal of wild milbok jiri is that you can enjoy the pufferfish's clean flavor warm, without the broth overpowering it. If you generally prefer a clear, refreshing broth over a heavily seasoned one, this will likely satisfy you.

## Clear and refreshing pufferfish soup you keep going back for

The pufferfish meat was great, but what I loved most about the wild milbok jiri was really the broth.

Personally, soup dishes that are too salty or oily tend to taste great at first but get tiring quickly. This pufferfish soup leans clean instead, so I could eat it all the way through without it feeling heavy. It went naturally with rice, too.

When people think of hangover soup, they usually picture something spicy and intense — but sometimes, the day after drinking, spicy food is actually the last thing you want. In that case, a clear pufferfish soup like this can be a great option.

The warm broth fills you up without feeling heavy, which is the kind of dish I'd think of when I want a slightly special hangover meal in Cheongdam-dong. If you prefer a clean style over a spicy hangover soup, I'd recommend the wild milbok jiri.

## Glad I added the pufferfish karaage 4pcs

![Crispy pufferfish karaage, 4 pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheongdam-blowfish-karaage-milbok-jiri/cheongdam-blowfish-karaage-milbok-jiri-10-1nkhz-900.webp)

Alongside the wild milbok jiri, I ordered the pufferfish karaage 4pcs as a side.

I figured ordering just the jiri would make the whole meal feel a bit too plain, so I added this — and I really liked the combination. 😋 The clear pufferfish soup and the crispy karaage have completely different textures, which made switching back and forth between them enjoyable.

Karaage usually brings chicken to mind first, but frying pufferfish gave it a whole different feel. The outside was fried crispy, with light, clean pufferfish meat inside, so despite being fried, it didn't feel overly heavy.

Eating the clear milbok jiri broth, then a piece of pufferfish karaage, then going back to the warm broth again — the pairing worked really well. At 4 pieces, it was just the right amount to go alongside the main dish. The portion wasn't too much, making it good for trying as a side.

## A pufferfish restaurant where you can enjoy it many different ways

When I think of pufferfish, I usually think of just soup or sashimi, but trying the karaage this time showed me that enjoying it fried is pretty great too.

Because the pufferfish meat itself is so light and clean, frying it creates a clear contrast between the crispy exterior and the tender interior, making for a distinctive way to enjoy it.

This time I ordered the wild milbok jiri and pufferfish karaage, but the restaurant also offers pufferfish sashimi and various other pufferfish dishes. If you enjoy the distinctive texture of raw pufferfish directly, adding sashimi and trying multiple styles could be worthwhile.

If it's your first time trying pufferfish, starting with the warm wild milbok jiri seems like an easy entry point, and pairing it with karaage works well if you like cooked fish. On the other hand, if you usually enjoy sashimi, I'd want to add pufferfish sashimi next time.

## Why the wild milbok jiri + pufferfish karaage combo worked

![Milbok jiri and pufferfish karaage set together on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheongdam-blowfish-karaage-milbok-jiri/cheongdam-blowfish-karaage-milbok-jiri-11-1js10-900.webp)

![A piece of pufferfish karaage next to the clear pufferfish soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheongdam-blowfish-karaage-milbok-jiri/cheongdam-blowfish-karaage-milbok-jiri-12-9bzfu-900.webp)

The two dishes I tried this time were clearly better together than either would have been on its own.

Wild milbok jiri brings a clean, refreshing flavor, while pufferfish karaage brings crispy, savory notes — they filled in each other's gaps well. When the jiri started feeling a bit plain, a piece of karaage would completely shift the texture and flavor, and after the fried bite, the clear soup reset my palate again.

So if you're not sure what to order on a first visit, I'd recommend the wild milbok jiri + pufferfish karaage 4pcs combo. It's an easy, low-pressure setup for visiting with someone trying pufferfish for the first time, and if you're in a group, you could add pufferfish sashimi or other dishes to share.

## Also good for family meals or gatherings with friends in Cheongdam-dong

Given the nature of the menu, Bogi-o Boguk felt especially suited to meal-focused gatherings.

Since pufferfish isn't something you eat every day, it's a good pick for friend gatherings that want something a bit different from the usual barbecue or raw fish restaurant. The wild milbok jiri also seems well suited to meals with parents, where you want something that isn't too intense.

For a group visit, each person could order their own boguk and add something like the pufferfish karaage to share. The location near Cheongdam Station is also convenient when deciding on a meeting spot — worth keeping in mind if you're looking for somewhere to eat and talk with friends.

## How to order if it's your first visit

If pufferfish dishes are unfamiliar to you, it's easier to pick based on what style you like rather than ordering several things at once.

- If you like a clear, warm soup: wild milbok jiri
- If you want something crispy too: add the pufferfish karaage 4pcs
- On days when a spicy hangover soup feels like too much: go for the clear pufferfish soup instead
- If you like the chewy texture unique to pufferfish: also check out pufferfish sashimi and other dishes

Menu items and prices may change depending on when you visit, so I'd recommend checking the latest menu before ordering.

## Overall thoughts on Bogi-o Boguk, a pufferfish restaurant in Cheongdam-dong

The wild milbok jiri and pufferfish karaage 4pcs I had this time let me enjoy two very different appeals in one meal, and the combo worked well.

The wild milbok jiri stood out for its light pufferfish meat and clear, clean broth, while the pufferfish karaage added crispness that kept the meal from feeling one-note.

If you prefer clean soup dishes over intense flavors, or you're looking for a different kind of hangover soup in Cheongdam-dong, the wild milbok jiri is worth trying. Being able to enjoy pufferfish in so many ways — soup, sashimi, karaage — depending on your taste is also a big plus for anyone seeking out a good pufferfish restaurant.

It was a good place to come back to on days when I'm craving pufferfish near Cheongdam Station, or need a spot for a meal with parents or friends. Next time, I'd order the wild milbok jiri again and also try the other pufferfish dishes I missed this time. 🐡🍲
