Luckily, there was an empty table, so I got in immediately without waiting. The crowd starts thinning after around 2:30 p.m., and it is fairly quiet by 3 p.m. Interestingly, there were lots of families dining with babies. You might expect it to be very noisy, full of running around and crying, but the babies were all eating so quietly and well. Maybe it is because there are so many foods children can eat—I saw babies eating while watching YouTube, babies chatting with their parents while they ate, all kinds of little ones. There were also customers with strollers, and the restaurant was spacious enough, with nicely spaced tables and plenty of room to park them. ## A spacious, comfortable restaurant for solo dining too Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Yeouido (화덕으로간고등어반상 여의도점) is very spacious. There is plenty of room between tables, so nothing interfered with the meal, and the whole place felt wonderfully comfortable. There was a bar in the middle for solo diners. Those seats can usually feel intimidating, but the layout here is so well designed that I did not feel self-conscious at all and ate very comfortably. There is also an area separated by low partitions, where families with babies tended to sit. Just from the restaurant name, you might think it would appeal to a limited group of people with very clear preferences. But considering the food sold and served here, the seating layout, the comfort, and the friendly service, it is a place that people of all ages can enjoy. The relaxed atmosphere was one of my favorite things. Soft music played throughout the restaurant, mixed with the gentle sounds of people talking over meals. There were meal-worthy foods such as sungnyung, tteokbokki, and japchae that could have been sold as individual menu items. The menu is quite varied, so there were so many things I wanted to try. After thinking about it for ages, I settled on the stew and pizza. I worried it might be too much food, but although there was plenty, it was so delicious that I did not leave a bite. The distinctive Gorgonzola aroma was just right, and dipping it in the sweet honey served alongside was so, so good. I do tend to like Gorgonzola pizza, but plenty of places do not make it well. Some are too rich because of the cheese, and the dough is often disappointing. This one was so good that I could easily finish a whole pizza by myself. It was not greasy or heavy at all. It had that clean, mild flavor from the wood-fired oven, the kind of irresistible pizza that keeps your hand reaching back for another slice. ## Spicy, refreshing fish roe stew set The fish roe stew arrived when I had eaten about half the pizza. It had lots of large pieces of roe, too. I like fish and seafood dishes, but I really hate fishy smells, so I do not usually go unless it is a place with a proven reputation. But this place was genuinely so clean-tasting. I love fish roe stew, but I usually do not eat iri (fish milt) because of how it looks. I hesitated until the very end here too, then cut off a small piece and took a bite. It was milder than I expected with a soft texture, and I did not find it off-putting at all.
