Gangmun Beach in particular is a spot travelers flock to, and right in front of it sits Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village, famous for its abalone dishes. On this trip to Gangneung with a friend, we went out for abalone porridge as a combined breakfast and lunch. It's easy to pop in while strolling along Gangmun Beach, and the clean exterior stands out. On top of that, the parking lot has plenty of space, which as a traveler I really appreciated. ## Seating and mood on the first and second floors The inside of Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village was clean, and there were a lot of families dining, along with travelers gathered in small groups — a nice scene. The photos look empty because I went a bit early; by the time we left after our meal, that seating area was completely full. There were plenty of seats on the 2nd floor as well as the 1st, and the tables were spaced generously so we could sit comfortably. The staff were so friendly and welcoming that it made the meal even more pleasant. ## Menu, prices and what we ordered at Jeonbok Haenyeo Village The signature menu items at Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village are the pressure-cooker abalone porridge and the haenyeo table. We got to enjoy butter-grilled abalone, steamed scallops, steamed mussels, and a variety of sea cucumber, abalone, and sea squirt, which made for a delightful spread. The butter-grilled abalone especially had a strong, savory aroma that showed a different charm from the porridge. On top of that there was abalone mulhoe (cold raw abalone soup), cold boiled pork, and grilled flounder too — truly an abundant table. A little while later the abalone porridge arrived, and thanks to being slow-cooked in a pressure cooker, it had a smooth, rich texture. It was packed with abalone, so a hint of the sea spread with every bite, and the flavor was savory yet clean. It was much deeper in flavor than regular abalone porridge, and I found myself impressed with every spoonful. The porridge wasn't heavy or overpowering — it settled your stomach comfortably, making it the perfect hearty meal during a trip. Eating warm abalone porridge after being out in the sea wind really brought out the charm of traveling in Gangneung. ### Self-serve side dish bar and the review gift There's a self-serve side dish bar, so you can help yourself to as much as you like. They said if you write a review on Naver, you get either 4 pieces of steamed whelk or a drink, so I quickly wrote one, haha. ## Is Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village worth it? Gangneung Jeonbok Haenyeo Village is easy to get to right in front of Gangmun Beach, and between the deep flavor of the abalone porridge and the abundant haenyeo table, we were very satisfied. Tasting the fresh abalone and the carefully prepared table, the price didn't feel expensive at all. It's a place I'd recommend when you want a hearty meal during your travels, or a healthy meal with family.
