## In short

Buja Hodu is a rice-dough walnut pastry (hodu-gwaja) shop at the entrance of Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju. On the third stop of a car-free walking trip, the writer bought the 15-piece mix gift set for 17,000 won, added bojagi (traditional wrapping cloth) for 3,000 won, and found that Buja Hodu also ships by courier and takes Smart Store orders, which makes it easy to send as a Chuseok gift. For anyone who wants walnut pastries that sit lightly on a stomach that does not handle wheat, Buja Hodu is the answer.

Buja Hodu is a rice-dough walnut pastry shop at the entrance of Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju. The name means "rich walnut," and it comes from the owner's genuine wish that everyone who visits Buja Hodu becomes wealthy. Here's a dessert review that makes a perfectly respectable Chuseok gift set.

### What the Buja Hodu Hwangnidan-gil shop looks like

Hi, this is MEMO. As part three of my must-do Hwangnidan-gil dessert crawl on a walking trip through Gyeongju, I stopped by Buja Hodu. The owner had such a kind, friendly face.

He wished me good fortune, saying eating Buja Hodu would make me rich — the walnut pastries are made with rice, so even people who can't handle wheat can enjoy them worry-free.

Every shop on Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju is built in tile-roofed hanok style, which gives the street such a serene, traditional-village feel.

## Can you sit and eat inside Buja Hodu?

Most people come to Buja Hodu to buy gift sets, but there's also a small space to sit and rest for a bit. You can have a coffee and try the new walnut pastry affogato while you're at it.

I went with the mix flavor, which combines red bean, matcha, and cream cheese evenly.

### Which Buja Hodu walnut pastries to order

Original walnut pastries (10-piece pack) 9,500 won — 10 pieces of savory, mild red bean.

Walnut pastries piled up like a mountain! Orders were backed up and everything is made fresh to order, so I couldn't grab mine right away — I waited in line. If you're short on time, try calling ahead to order!

## Chuseok gift sets, bojagi wrap and courier delivery

Buja Hodu's gift set packaging is upscale, and since it's made with rice it doesn't sit heavy in your stomach, so it works well as a classy holiday gift. I asked and they said delivery is available too.

## The walnut pastry affogato at Buja Hodu

![Walnut pastry affogato menu item at Buja Hodu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-bujahodu-chuseok-set/gyeongju-hwangnidan-bujahodu-chuseok-set-09-6jw0p-900.webp)

Affogato is one of my favorite desserts — pouring espresso over ice cream, sweet plus bitter, so good, right? But turning walnut pastries into an affogato?! The owner really knows his flavors.

![Walnut pastries with espresso poured over walnut ice cream](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-bujahodu-chuseok-set/gyeongju-hwangnidan-bujahodu-chuseok-set-10-ko1f0-900.webp)

He said it's a menu item they developed themselves! I've genuinely never seen this anywhere else, and now I want to try making it myself?! Walnut pastry + espresso + walnut ice cream. Especially for people who struggle to finish a whole box of walnut pastries — I should try pouring coffee over ones I've frozen and topping with vanilla ice cream.

![Buja Hodu's logo shaped like a walnut pastry](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-bujahodu-chuseok-set/gyeongju-hwangnidan-bujahodu-chuseok-set-11-s6ev7-900.webp)

The logo looks like it's shaped after a walnut pastry, and it's so round and cute haha. Buja Hodu gift set 17,000 won — 15-piece mix box, matcha, cream cheese, and red bean flavors.

Walnut pastries usually come in kind of old-fashioned boxes, but Gyeongju's Buja Hodu packaging feels upscale.

They emphasized using top-grade California walnuts! Apparently really good quality. The rice dough is dense and chewy, so the texture is on point too — a genuinely delicious walnut pastry.

I gave mine away as a gift so I didn't get to try it myself, but I heard the filling isn't too sweet, so it stays mild and doesn't get cloying. It looks upscale enough that people asked me where I bought it!

![Buja Hodu packaging that makes a good gift for elders](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-bujahodu-chuseok-set/gyeongju-hwangnidan-bujahodu-chuseok-set-14-p268u-900.webp)

It's a package that's great for gifting to elders, with a healthy flavor to match. If you need somewhere simple to send a Chuseok gift, consider sending your heart through Buja Hodu. You can really feel the care the owner puts into making these walnut pastries. A walnut pastry with genuine sincerity behind it! If you're torn on Hwangnidan-gil desserts, try a walnut pastry that carries the mood of Gyeongju.

## How to store and reheat the walnut pastries

Eating Buja Hodu's pastries right after you receive them is the best way to enjoy them. If storing, freeze them and take out as needed, or run them through an air fryer — you'll get that fresh-baked taste back.

![Individually packed walnut pastries recommended for freezer storage](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-bujahodu-chuseok-set/gyeongju-hwangnidan-bujahodu-chuseok-set-15-1l2mi-900.webp)

If you're sharing them the same day, refrigerating seems fine since there's cream cheese inside, but they can turn hard, so I'd recommend the freezer instead!

## Buja Hodu menu and prices
