I had plans to meet a friend near Insadong. Insadong has so much to see and plenty of cafés and restaurants, so I end up choosing it as a meeting spot pretty often. This time, rather than sightseeing, I wanted to just sit down and catch up over a relaxed dinner, so we went to Insadong Jemyeonso Annyeong Insadong Branch. Looking over the menu, we ordered a steak bowl and a tonkatsu udon set — with each of us picking a different dish, it made for a satisfying dinner.

## How easy is it to find on the 3rd floor of Annyeong Insadong?

Insadong Jemyeonso is on the 3rd floor of the Annyeong Insadong building. As you walk through Insadong, there's so much to see, including Ssamziegil, so this is a convenient location to duck into for a meal after browsing around. Since it's inside a mixed-use cultural space, it was fairly easy to find even on a first visit.

We visited during dinner time, and looking around, there were so many foreign tourists. There were noticeably foreign guests inside the restaurant too, which reminded me all over again just how popular Insadong is with tourists.

## What two people ordered at Insadong Jemyeonso

We ordered two dishes that day.

- Steak bowl
- Tonkatsu udon set

One of us went for rice, the other for noodles and tonkatsu, so it was nice that we didn't overlap on dishes. It's a solid combo for a filling meal after a full day of walking around Insadong, and also worked well for a relaxed dinner catching up with a friend, like we did.

### Steak bowl: tender meat with a gentle smoky aroma

My personal favorite that day was the steak bowl. The steak was piled generously on top of the rice, and it looked pretty appetizing. Taking a bite of the meat, the tender texture was great, and the subtle smoky flavor paired well with the steak. Eating the rice and meat together made this one-bowl dish surprisingly filling. In particular, popping the egg yolk and mixing it into the rice and meat makes it even softer and richer. I personally like meat-topped rice bowls, so out of everything we ordered that day, the steak bowl was the most memorable.

### Tonkatsu udon set: crispy tonkatsu with warm broth

The other dish we ordered was the tonkatsu udon set. When it's hard to pick just one dish, the advantage of a set menu is that you can have both tonkatsu and udon together. Eating the crispy fried tonkatsu, then sipping the warm udon broth in between, the combination worked well. Udon is a familiar, comforting dish that most people would enjoy. Especially when the weather turns chilly or after a long walk through Insadong's alleys, warm udon broth is exactly what you crave, and having tonkatsu alongside it made for a pretty hearty meal.

If I were choosing again, I think I'd reach for the steak bowl. The tender texture of the meat was great, and it was easy to eat together with the rice — a solid choice for a filling meal after wandering around Insadong.
