## In short

Concasse Anguk is a fusion Western restaurant in a hanok alley off Bukchon-ro in Jongno, Seoul. After sightseeing in Insadong, the writer stopped in for dinner with her son and ordered wasabi cream pasta, tomato salad and omija (schisandra berry) tea, and the wasabi accent in the cream sauce made the pasta feel different from the usual. Eating fusion Western food inside a hanok was a fitting way to end an Insadong and Bukchon outing.

My son and I went out to Insadong one day. We walked around quite a bit checking things out, and before we knew it, it was dinner time. When I asked what he wanted to eat, he said he was in the mood for pasta. Since we'd already come all the way to Insadong, I figured we should skip the usual pasta place and find somewhere a bit different, so we headed to Concasse near Anguk Station.

## Where is Concasse Anguk? A hanok restaurant in the Anguk and Bukchon alleys

Concasse sits in an alley with that distinct Anguk and Bukchon atmosphere. What caught my eye most was the interior, built around the bones of a hanok (traditional Korean house). We came for Italian food, but the space had a Korean feel, and oddly enough it worked really well together. Maybe because we'd just come from wandering Insadong, the mood of our outing carried naturally into the meal.

## What is the interior of Concasse Anguk like?

The exterior already had that hanok feel, but the mood was even better once we stepped inside. The warmth of the wood blended naturally with the hanok's structure, giving it a distinctly different feel from a typical Italian restaurant. There are a lot of hanok cafés and restaurants around Insadong and Anguk, and Concasse felt like it fit right into the neighborhood. It seemed like a nice spot for a date, but also worked well for us — a slightly different dinner after an outing with my kid.

## The three dishes we ordered for dinner with my son

That day, the two of us ordered three things.

- Wasabi cream pasta
- Tomato salad
- Omija (schisandra berry) tea

Looking at the menu, I noticed dishes that took familiar Western food and blended in Korean ingredients. The one I was most curious about was, of course, the wasabi cream pasta. Wasabi and cream — just reading the name, I couldn't quite picture the flavor.

### How the wasabi cream pasta tastes

The pasta we'd been waiting for finally arrived. Cream pasta itself is familiar, but adding wasabi definitely made it feel different from the usual version. It kept the smooth, savory base of a cream sauce but got a sharp accent from the wasabi. Before it arrived, I worried the wasabi flavor might be too strong, but the unusual combination turned out to be fun to try. We came here because my son wanted pasta, and getting to try something other than a plain tomato or cream pasta together made it more memorable.

### Was the tomato salad worth ordering?

The tomato salad we ordered alongside the pasta suited the meal well too. Built around tomatoes, it was a refreshing dish that paired nicely with the cream pasta. From what I could find about the menu, it's made with tomato, mango, avocado, and cheese, dressed with a yuzu and omija-style sauce. The colors were lovely, so it was nice to have something light before the main pasta arrived, and it brightened up the whole table. If you're ordering a cream-based pasta, pairing it with something refreshing like this seems like a good idea.

### The drink: omija (schisandra berry) tea

For a drink, I chose omija tea. Drinking omija tea while eating pasta in a hanok space felt a little unusual at first, but once it was on the table it matched the mood at Concasse quite well. Sipping it between bites of pasta felt like it reset my palate. Being able to choose something like this instead of the usual soda or coffee also fit well with Concasse's habit of working Korean ingredients into its menu.

## Evening lighting and the hanok dining room

Each table had a small candle lit, and the soft glow made the atmosphere feel even warmer. I especially liked how the tree inside the restaurant twinkled with lights — my eyes kept drifting back to it. Between the hanok's wood, the green plants, and the soft lighting, it felt like eating inside a small garden. Rather than an elaborately decorated space, it felt like nature had simply been brought indoors — calm and quietly atmospheric. Honestly, the interior view with the lighting and greenery stuck with me as much as the food did.

## What I liked about Concasse Anguk

- Easy to visit after Insadong. Since it's close to Anguk and Bukchon too, it's easy to fold into a full-day route.
- The hanok atmosphere stood out. Eating in a space so different from a typical Italian restaurant made the meal more fun.
- The menu combinations were unique. Dishes like wasabi with cream take familiar Western food and add unexpected ingredients.
- The tomato salad paired well. Eating it alongside a cream-based dish made the meal feel lighter overall.
- The omija tea matched the mood. Pairing Western food with a traditional Korean drink felt refreshingly different.
- It worked well for a meal with my son. It was fun picking dishes together when he was craving pasta.
- It also seems like a good date spot. The lighting and hanok interior are calm, so it should suit anyone who cares about atmosphere.
- It's a good place for photos. Beyond the food, the interior itself is worth capturing.

## Good to know before visiting Concasse Anguk

- First, there's a break time, so make sure to check the hours before heading over.
- Second, there's no dedicated parking lot, so if you're driving, it's worth checking nearby paid parking in advance.
- Third, evenings and weekends can get busy, so check whether reservations or waiting are needed.
- Fourth, this is a place known more for fusion-style dishes than standard pasta, so read the menu descriptions and pick what suits your taste.
- Fifth, pairing your visit with Anguk, Bukchon, and Insadong makes for a better day-trip route than just stopping in for a meal.

## Final thoughts on dinner at Concasse Anguk

We ended up at Concasse just because my son said, 'I want pasta for dinner' while we were wandering Insadong. Thanks to that, I got to try a wasabi cream pasta unlike my usual order, along with tomato salad and omija tea, for a different kind of dinner. Eating fusion Italian food inside a hanok space in particular left an impression. If you're out around Insadong, Anguk, or Bukchon and can't decide on dinner, trying a slightly different pasta in a hanok setting isn't a bad idea.
