## In short

Barirus is a large bakery café in Paju, Gyeonggi, that also houses a gallery and media art space. Ordering the castella cream bread for ₩6,500, dapa bread for ₩4,000, two iced Americanos, the signature Bari Schüpfer, and peach ade made for a full dessert time, and browsing the exhibits naturally stretched the visit longer. A relaxing spot for days when just coffee and leaving feels like a waste.

I was out around Paju and after lunchtime passed, I started craving coffee. Instead of just a coffee-only café, I wanted somewhere I could also eat bread or dessert, so this time I visited Barirus.

If you're looking for a good-sized café in Paju, this is a place you've probably heard of at least once. Going in person, the space was bigger than I expected, and with everything from bakery items to drinks, I ended up staying much longer than planned.

## A large bakery café found in Paju

Arriving at Barirus, the first thing that caught my eye was, of course, the spacious interior.

When you're looking for cafés around Paju, some have awkward parking or such small floor space that finding a seat on weekends is tough.

But this place had a relaxed atmosphere that felt good for visiting with family or chatting with friends.

And it's not just coffee — there's a full bakery menu too, which was great for a quick bite when hungry.

## So many kinds of bread at Barirus

Walking into Barirus, the bakery surprised me more than I expected.

There were so many kinds of bread that at first I just stood there staring, trying to figure out what to pick.

From familiar breads to ones I'd never seen before, the variety made it feel natural to grab a pastry even if you only came for coffee.

With such a wide bread selection, I'd like to try something different next visit.

## Picking a castella cream bread to start

Let me introduce what we ordered that day.

- Castella cream bread ₩6,500
- Dapa bread ₩4,000
- 2 iced Americanos
- Bari Schüpfer (iced only)
- Peach ade

I hadn't planned on eating bread at first, but looking around the bakery corner, it was hard to just walk past.

The castella cream bread especially sounded like something that would go well with coffee, so I picked one up.

It's a combination of soft cream and castella-style sponge, and paired with Americano the sweetness and bitterness matched nicely.

## Old-style red bean bread

With so many kinds of bread, I also picked a red bean bread.

These days there are lots of flashy breads filled with cream or various fillings, but this old-style red bean bread has its own charm.

The plain bread with sweet red bean inside paired perfectly with Americano. A bite of red bean bread, then a sip of Americano — the sweetness matched the coffee's bitterness well. It brought back memories of breads I ate as a kid, and was an easy, comforting thing to enjoy with coffee.

## If you're at Barirus, get the Bari Schüpfer

Among the drinks that day, one name really caught my eye: the Bari Schüpfer.

On days when plain Americano feels a bit lacking, but something too sweet feels like too much, having a drink like this is great.

The Bari Schüpfer is Barirus's signature menu item, worth ordering at least once on a first visit. We got two iced Americanos as a base and one Bari Schüpfer, which worked out well for choosing drinks based on personal taste.

## Peach ade for something different

For anyone who doesn't drink coffee, we also ordered a peach ade. Not everyone in a group drinks coffee, after all. Having an ade option makes choosing easier.

The distinctly sweet, refreshing peach flavor gave a different vibe from coffee and paired well with the bread. Especially since the bakery items tend to be on the sweet side, using the ade to cleanse the palate in between was a nice combination.

## Media art and a gallery inside the café

One reason Barirus felt a bit special was that it has an exhibition space built right into the café. It's less like a café inside a museum building and more like a gallery and media art space built into a huge café.

![Gallery exhibition space inside the café](https://img.superchart.com/images/barilus-paju-bakery-media-art-cafe/barilus-paju-bakery-media-art-cafe-19-150xs-966.webp)

You come in for coffee, but on one side you can view works by artists, and in the media art area you can even take photos.

![Media art space with light and video projections](https://img.superchart.com/images/barilus-paju-bakery-media-art-cafe/barilus-paju-bakery-media-art-cafe-20-1130f-966.webp)

So instead of just drinking a coffee and leaving, I ended up slowly wandering around like at an exhibition. The media art space in particular, with light and video blending together, felt like something unexpected to find inside a café.

Enjoying coffee and bread was great, but walking around and looking at the artwork in between made my time at the café naturally stretch longer. If you're looking for a large café in Paju and want something to look at too, this kind of complex-cultural-space café is a solid option.

## A place you end up staying longer than just for coffee

Once everything we ordered was on the table, it looked more substantial than expected. With two Americanos, the Bari Schüpfer, and peach ade, plus the castella cream bread and dapa bread, it felt less like stopping for one coffee and more like a proper dessert time.

Above all, Barirus has a spacious layout, so it was good for chatting over coffee and taking your time rather than eating quickly and leaving. For anyone looking for a café in Paju that isn't just pretty but also has good parking, space, and menu, this fits well.

## A first for a café like this in Paju

What struck me visiting Barirus is how much broader a café's role has become compared to before.

Not just a place for one coffee, but a space to enjoy bread and dessert too, and spend relaxed time with people.

![Vertical shot of the Barirus interior atmosphere](https://img.superchart.com/images/barilus-paju-bakery-media-art-cafe/barilus-paju-bakery-media-art-cafe-22-tykvd-960.webp)

That's exactly the feeling Barirus gave. That day we tried the castella cream bread and dapa bread along with Americano, Bari Schüpfer, and peach ade — a good spread that let everyone pick their own drink and still share the bread.

If you're driving out to Paju and looking for somewhere to grab coffee, and want a day to sit back and relax a bit longer, a large bakery café like Barirus is a good choice.

On days when just having coffee and leaving feels like a waste, and you want to eat a piece of bread too — I think I'd stop by again the next time I'm in Paju.
