A glass of somaek (soju-and-beer mix) with pork ribs sounded like a fine dinner, so we came here this time. ## A pork rib restaurant in Hapjeong Champpoppo Jjokgalbi Hapjeong Branch is on the Hongdae Solnae-gil side street between Hapjeong and Sangsu stations. It sits farther into an alley, so I looked around at first wondering exactly where it was, but getting there was not particularly difficult. Inside, it was neat and clean, as you would expect from a newly opened place, and the dinner-time atmosphere was quite lively. Once they were in front of me, the pieces of meat were bigger than I had expected. There was a fair amount of meat attached to the bones too, so rather than eating them with chopsticks, I thought it would be fun to pick them up and tear into them with my hands. They definitely felt different from the soy-sauce version. The spicy seasoning plus the charcoal smoke made the flavor come through more strongly. Of everything I ate that day, these stayed with me most. ## Steamed egg and honeycomb pork skin with the spice As I kept eating the spicy marinated ribs, I naturally reached for the steamed egg too. It was soft and fluffy, and a spoonful after the spicy seasoning felt like it reset my palate. I could see why people order steamed egg alongside seasoned dishes like ribs. At first I thought of it as simply part of the set, but it actually paired very well. After eating a fair amount of ribs, I got curious about the honeycomb pork skin, so we ordered one as a side. It was thicker than ordinary pork skin, and it looked quite appetizing grilling on the rack. Once cooked well, it was crisp outside and still chewy within. It was nice to pick at one piece at a time as anju after we had eaten some ribs. ## Dinner continued with ribs and somaek At this point, somaek could not be left out, right?
