## In short

Flat Nine is a jazz dining bar near Gangnam Station in Seocho, Seoul. We paired a two-person classic course with white truffle, cocktails, Harken Chardonnay, and both sets from the Jackie Kim Trio. Verdict: a polished spot for dinner and live jazz in one sitting.

It had been a while since I went somewhere with a lovely atmosphere for dinner with Yooyong, so we headed to Flat Nine, a jazz dining spot near Gangnam Station. Flat Nine is a jazz bar where you can enjoy course meals and drinks while catching a live jazz performance. Delicious food plus a jazz show? I thought it would be perfect for a Gangnam Station date night.

## Flat Nine near Gangnam Station: location and entrance

![Flat Nine exterior](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangnam-jazz-dining-course-flatnine/gangnam-jazz-dining-course-flatnine-04-1yj3b-900.webp)

Flat Nine is a five-minute walk from Gangnam Station. Take the elevator up to the fifth floor and the venue is right there.

There was also a notice in front of the entrance showing that day's jazz performance schedule. The schedule is posted on Flat Nine's Instagram too, so it would be good to check before you visit.

## A calm interior facing the stage

The atmosphere was incredible as soon as we walked in...! There is a stage at the front for live performances, and most tables and chairs are arranged to face it.

![Flat Nine seating facing the stage](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangnam-jazz-dining-course-flatnine/gangnam-jazz-dining-course-flatnine-06-1oa8z-750.webp)

The two-person seats let you sit side by side and watch the performance, while the four-person and group seats had spacious tables. The lighting was generally dim, giving it a calm, upscale feel. It would be great with friends, or as a Gangnam Station or Sinnonhyeon date spot.

The restrooms are inside the venue, separated by gender and kept clean, so they were easy to use. They also had various charging cables available, so you could leave your phone to charge if needed. Nice~

## Course, à la carte, and cocktail menus

Flat Nine is a jazz dining bar where you can enjoy Western dishes including pasta and steak as a course or à la carte. It is great for having a proper dinner while watching a show, and there were plenty of lighter options to enjoy with cocktails or wine too. The cocktail selection was especially broad, and they said you can also order cocktails not on the menu if you tell them the style you want.

Each table had a tablet, which made ordering easy, and happy hour runs from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Cocktails are 30% off + the live charge is ₩10,000! The standard live charge is ₩15,000, so those visiting on weekend afternoons might want to try happy hour.

## Classic course for two with white truffle

We ordered the classic course for two with added white truffle, one Flat Nine cocktail, and one glass of Harken Chardonnay.

### Opening drinks and amuse-bouche

You can choose an alcoholic or non-alcoholic opening drink, so Yooyong chose alcoholic and I chose non-alcoholic. With cranberry, raspberry, mint, and lemon as its base, it was sweet and tangy—perfect for waking up the appetite.

The amuse-bouche was dauphinoise: thinly sliced potatoes layered and baked until crisp. The crunchy texture really came through, and it felt different from the potato dishes I usually eat, which was fun.

Ta-da~

### Freshly baked focaccia

Next up was freshly baked focaccia! It was lightly crisp on the outside, moist and soft within. Warm, dipped into oil, it was nutty, tender, and delicious.

### Cuttlefish and Korean melon carpaccio

The seasonal salad that day was cuttlefish and Korean melon carpaccio! It came with smoky cuttlefish, thin slices of Korean melon, and radish. Mixed well with the paprika sauce underneath, the cuttlefish aroma and crunchy vegetables went together beautifully. The Korean melon's gentle sweetness made it a refreshing course in the middle of the meal.

### Flat Nine cocktail and wine

Along with the food, we ordered a Flat Nine cocktail and Harken Chardonnay. True to a jazz bar, the alcohol choices—from cocktails to wine and whisky—were incredibly varied, making it easy to pair the course with your taste. There were lots of signature cocktails too, so it is worth visiting if you are looking for a Gangnam Station bar or somewhere atmospheric for drinks in Gangnam.

### Mille-feuille lasagna and Jeju black pork tenderloin steak

The layered lasagna was topped with ragù sauce and cheese, and the edges were baked especially crisp—this part was seriously delicious. We chose white truffle as an add-on, and eating it with the truffle sauce beneath the lasagna brought a subtle truffle fragrance that paired so well with the ragù. I was so glad we added it, haha.

Then came the Jeju black pork tenderloin steak for the main! They said the black pork tenderloin is grilled over binchotan charcoal. It was chewy yet tender, and I really enjoyed it. At first I was curious because there was so much coating on the outside, but it turned out to be an herb crust. Mango purée, roasted mushrooms, and baby potatoes came alongside, all easy to enjoy with the steak.

### Chocolate cake

The rich ganache chocolate cake was topped with cream cheese and nuts. It had a dense, intense chocolate flavor, making it a nice sweet finish.

## Jackie Kim Trio live jazz performance

And then, Flat Nine's highlight: the jazz performance! The show on the day I visited was by the Jackie Kim Trio. It featured Inyoung Kim on bass, Sunghui Yoon on piano, and Jackie Kim on vocals. Their stage presence was wonderful and the singing was so good that we stayed through both the first and second sets, haha. They naturally drew in the audience too, and before I knew it, I was completely absorbed in the performance.

- I Wish You Love
- Bésame Mucho
- Over the Rainbow
- Love You Madly
- Fly Me to the Moon
- It Don't Mean a Thing

Even though I only wrote down the songs that stayed with me, there are quite a few, right?.. That just means they were all so good. Hehe. Especially Fly Me to the Moon! It is a classic that cannot be left out of a jazz performance. Hearing a song I love live was just the best.

## Dinner and a performance in one place

Flat Nine was a Gangnam Station date-night restaurant where we fully enjoyed everything from delicious food to a jazz performance! The course had a varied lineup and the flavors were satisfying. I think Flat Nine's biggest appeal is being able to enjoy cocktails and wine with dinner, then watch live jazz, all in one place.

The atmosphere was calm and upscale, so I recommend it for a Gangnam Station or Sinnonhyeon date, or for spending a special time with friends too~ I would absolutely come back!!
